Inside his bedroom, Nagato sat at his desk after returning home from the Academy and finishing dinner. He had grown considerably over the past few years, but one habit had remained unchanged—writing in his diary every night.
It was something his mother had asked him to begin after their family moved to Konoha.
After faithfully keeping it up for several years, writing a daily entry had become second nature to him.
Nagato opened the thick diary but did not immediately put pen to paper. Instead, he flipped back to the earliest pages and began reading, a thoughtful expression settling over his face.

Today was our first day at the Academy.
Konan, Yahiko, and I are all in the same class. I'm really happy!
