Chapter 1 - Ghost story

It was a cold winter evening when Rohan arrived at his grandmother's old house in the village. The house stood alone at the end of a narrow road, surrounded by tall trees that moved slowly with the wind. Rohan had not visited this place since he was a child, and the house looked older and darker than he remembered.

His grandmother had passed away a few months ago, and Rohan came to clean the house before selling it. As he opened the wooden door, it made a long creaking sound. Dust filled the air, and the rooms were silent except for the ticking of an old wall clock.

Rohan began cleaning the living room. While moving an old chair, he heard a faint whisper.

"Rohan…"

He quickly turned around, but there was no one there. He thought it was just the wind passing through the broken windows.

Later that night, Rohan decided to sleep in his grandmother's bedroom. The room felt strangely cold. At midnight, he woke up suddenly. The door slowly opened by itself with a soft creak.

Rohan sat up in bed, his heart beating fast.

"Who's there?" he asked nervously.

No one answered.

Then he heard the whisper again, clearer this time.

"Rohan… don't leave this house."

The voice sounded familiar, almost like his grandmother's. A shadow slowly appeared near the corner of the room. It looked like a person standing silently in the dark.

Rohan's hands started shaking. He wanted to run, but he felt frozen.

The shadow moved closer. As moonlight entered through the window, he saw the shape of an old woman wearing a white sari.

"Grandma?" he whispered.

The figure nodded slowly.

Rohan couldn't believe his eyes. The ghost of his grandmother stood before him, her face calm but sad.

"You must listen carefully," she said in a soft voice. "This house hides something important. Under the floor near the old cupboard, there is a box. Protect it."

Suddenly the room grew colder. The ghost slowly faded into the darkness.

The next morning, Rohan gathered his courage and checked the place she mentioned. After removing a loose wooden board, he found a small iron box covered in dust.

Inside the box were old letters, photographs, and land documents. Rohan realized that the land around the village belonged to his family. Without those documents, the villagers could lose their homes to a greedy businessman who planned to buy the land illegally.

Rohan understood why his grandmother's spirit had appeared.

He decided not to sell the house. Instead, he used the documents to protect the village and the people living there.

From that day on, the house never felt scary again. Sometimes, late at night, Rohan still heard the soft ticking of the clock and felt a gentle presence watching over him.

And deep in his heart, he knew his grandmother's spirit was finally at peace.
