Chapter 3 — The System Speaks

The Golden Civilization System hovered in the Oval Office like a miniature sun. Golden light spilled across the polished floor, bouncing off furniture and Ethan's stunned face. Holographic panels rotated lazily, displaying alien schematics, energy blueprints, and symbols he could barely comprehend.

System: "Host identified: Ethan Vale. Civilization Marketplace activated. Discovery module online. System currency: 0 points."

Ethan: "Marketplace, discovery module… starter package too? Let me guess: a weird tech toy for beginners?"

System: "Incorrect. Starter package: Arc Reactor. Full functional overview revealed. Additional purchases require system points. System points may be earned by selling unknown materials, alien artifacts, or unclassified technology. Exchange rate: $1,000 per system point. Black Box Module deployment: conditions not yet met."

Ethan blinked. "…Wait. Starter package, Arc Reactor… but the Black Box isn't ready yet? Oh, of course. Makes total sense."

He stepped closer, golden arcs spinning elegantly in the hologram before him.

Ethan: "No way. An actual Arc Reactor. Floating in the middle of the Oval Office. Modular. And the system's keeping the Black Box hostage until I… do something? Typical. Can't just hand me universe-level tech all at once."

System: "Starter package: Arc Reactor deployed. Full capabilities: energy generation sufficient to power multiple city districts; supports integration with civil infrastructure systems; modular expansion compatible with discovered technology. Black Box Module: deployment conditions not satisfied. Host must prepare secure location before activation."

Ethan rubbed his temples, smirking. "Right… so I get the Arc Reactor floating here, I know what it can do, but I can't even start building it because the Black Box isn't deployed yet. Fantastic. Guess I'm officially teased by multiverse tech."

He paced, grinning uncontrollably. "Multiple districts' energy… modular upgrades… floating reactor, and I get to figure out where the Black Box will live before I can actually fabricate parts. Of course. This is exactly the kind of challenge I wanted. No simulations, no comic panels, just real-life Tony Stark homework."

For the next hour, he tapped and swiped through holograms, exploring alien schematics, energy conduits, and materials glowing with strange power. He commented sarcastically to himself on every impossible-looking blueprint.

Ethan: "So, I can earn system points by selling alien scraps, buy advanced tech, and the starter package is right here in front of me, humming like a miniature sun… but the real fun—assembling parts with a Black Box—is locked until I prepare my lab. Sure. Totally fair."

He leaned back, staring out at the skyline of Metropolis. Somewhere below, criminal syndicates, meta-human experiments, and alien remnants waited. The system wouldn't warn him. He would have to investigate, source materials, and wait before he could fabricate anything with the Arc Reactor.

Ethan: "No heroes, no prophecies, just me… a floating Arc Reactor I recognize, and a city that somehow depends on my DIY skills once I finally get a stable set up for the Black Box. Sounds like a normal Wednesday."

The golden light pulsed softly, as if the system appreciated his sarcasm.

System: "Acknowledged, Host. Civilization advancement modules operational. Marketplace and discovery modules active. Black Box deployment pending secure location confirmation."
