Chapter 2 - 2

"Tch… such a shitty life." Stomping on the ground in frustration, Davan couldn't help but curse under his breath.

"Is it ever going to get better?" Muttering to himself, he couldn't help but think about his life's experience.

Born to a commoner, he was a person without talent. Ever since he was a child, he wanted to be an adventurer, exploring the mysteries of the world, going on adventures, getting rich, becoming powerful and whatnot.

But all his hopes and dreams crashed when, at the age of ten, he failed to awaken. After that, his entire life had been nothing but struggle.

Years of living under those conditions had squashed all his hopes and dreams. The only thing he wanted to do now was to get rich, marry a bunch of women and live peacefully in luxury.

But alas! How could someone like him get rich?

He even joined a band of mercenaries, a bunch of like-minded people who take on small missions of finding lost items, hunting some wild game, and herb gathering.

He had been doing this for years and would perhaps continue to do so till he died of old age or accident.

Today shouldn't have been any different.

Venturing around the vicinity of the small town he was living in, he was going to look for more herbs. If he got lucky, he could earn ten copper coins.

"Tch… When will this misery end?" And just when Davan was cursing his bad luck, he felt the ground beneath him tremble.

"An earthquake?" This was the first thought that came to Davan's mind, but the tremors beneath him didn't stop; on the contrary, they only increased in intensity and size.

"Wha… what's going on?" The second thought that came to his mind was that a bunch of powerhouses were engaged in combat in the vicinity, or some kind of ferocious beast was rushing towards him. Whatever the case might be, it was something that the current him didn't have the qualifications to face.

"Run away." Turning around, he was about to rush out when he saw a sight that he would never forget in his life.

Just a few hundred meters away from him, the ground suddenly split into two. The trees, herbs and stones, everything in that vicinity was pushed aside, as if making way for something.

And the next instant, an extremely old and dilapidated building heaved itself out of the earth.

"...."

"...."

"HOLY SHIT, A DUNGEON?" After a brief silence, Davan couldn't help but shout at the top of his lungs. Every single child in this world was familiar with it.

No one knows what the dungeons were or where they came from. They seemed to have existed since time immemorial, and every single civilisation was built around them.

The only thing he knew was that dungeons were filled with countless treasures and opportunities.

After a brief period of disbelief and silence, his eyes gleamed in excitement as he swallowed a mouthful fo saliva greedily.

"This… this is my chance!" It was a brand new dungeon that had never been explored before. Inside, it must be filled with treasures.

Anything from the dungeon could be sold for a huge amount of money… something that the current him would never be able to make by doing these odd jobs.

The only problem was… the dungeons were filled with countless dangers.

"Take the risk or not?" This thought only lasted for a brief moment of time before he gritted his teeth and decided to enter it.

"From the looks of it, it's a low-level dungeon. The dangers shouldn't be that high on the starting floor."

Birds die for food, and people die for wealth.

This was a heaven-sent opportunity that could change his life. How could he give up on it?

Without any further ado, he reached inside his clothes, took out an old dagger that had accompanied him throughout his life and rushed into the dungeon.

The dungeon in front of him wasn't grand in size. It looked like an old abandoned manor. The front and the only door of the manor were wide open, leading further into the darkness.

The thought of exploring it from any other side never crossed Davan's mind.

Dungeons were extremely special. They appeared in different shapes and sizes, but if there was one thing common about them, then it was that they were indestructible.

No matter who attacks from the outside, the dungeon can not be harmed in the slightest.

To destroy a dungeon, one needed to enter it and destroy the core. But that is something that even an idiot won't do.

Dungeons were filled with countless resources that would refresh at a set interval of time. Conquering the dungeon means getting your hands on an inexhaustible supply of resources. It was enough to change the power structure of a region.

The thoughts of conquering the dungeon never crossed Davan's mind. Even the lowest-grade dungeon had five floors, something that the likes of him could never hope to explore.

Shaking his head, he cleared his mind of all those distracting thoughts and rushed inside.

The moment he stepped through the door, Davan felt the world around him blur as he found himself in a pitch-dark room.

He wasn't surprised by it. The door was just an entrance leading to a different place.

He had experienced it before in school when he was a child.

The first thing that he did was to turn around and check if the exit was still there.

After seeing the familiar pitch-black door, he finally breathed in relief.

Then, without any hesitation, he reached inside his clothes, fiddled for a while and took out a small palm-sized paper that he tore in half.

And in the next instant, his entire body emitted a blinding white light, illuminating the surrounding area.

"This is…" With the darkness no longer shrouding his eyes, he was finally able to see.

"....."

".....'

"Ah fuck. Not a maze." Looking at the narrow place he was standing in, leading further inside, Davan couldn't help but curse at the top of his lungs.
