Chapter 4 - The first mistake

Eliza's POV

I flinched as the hot tea splashed on my face. For a second, I couldn't breathe. My face burned as

I trembled and struggled to breath, feeling the familiar ache in my chest.

"What do you think about it? Huh?" He asked.

"I.. I am sorry, sir" I apologized even if I didn't knew what I did.

"What do you think about us?" He yelled as he stood up, the chair faintly screeched on the floor, leaving the air with tension.

His face etched with anger and a faked frustration.

"Do you think you can take the money and sit still?" He yelled again.

He slapped me across my face. I shut my eyes as pain pierced through my head. I couldn't even cry but swallow the pain without a word or scream.

"GET. OUT. And don't come here anymore "

"Dear, what are you doing?" Madam Mae's voice cut through the tension in the air. She lowered her handbag after coming home after the party, her voice soft but sarcastic.

I don't know why Mr. Daniel returned early.

"Who's going to be my slave, if she go?" Her voice dripping with the ownership over me.

"Is this what you call a tea?" He asked her lifting the cup.

"Hey! Forgive her... She is just new here." Ms Mae excused.

He sighed and shook his head. He walked upstairs giving me a deadly look, a smug tugging at his lips.

Ms Mae walked to me.

"Don't repeat this ever again" she said firmly.

I lowered my gaze and nodded.

She looked at the floor, then at me

"Clean here" she commanded.

I nodded again and ran to the kitchen.

The night before

Should I wait anymore? Or should I die?

I chuckled to myself.

I am already dead. What was the need in thinking much?

It's almost time.. Do I even deserve to expect peace after my death? Why am I even bothering about the last wish?

I looked down at my necklace and tightly held it. My eyes welled up.

I need to return this. This is precious.

I spread out the bedsheet and laid down in bed and pulled up the blanket, stairing at the ceiling before drifting to sleep.

I jumped when I heard the door of my room creaked open. I immediately switched on the lamp.

Mr. Daniel?

"Sir?" I called him.

He was standing at the door, smiling like a creep.

My stomach twisted at the sight of him.

"Sir? Do you need anything? " I asked as I got up from the bed, setting the blanket aside.

"No " he said as he walked in "I just wanted to see you" he continued.

Fear crawled in. Oh no.... Why does it feel familiar? Why can't I breath..

He walked to me, too gentle to doubt and a smile so bright to be rude.

He held my wrist, his hand sliding up as he talks..

"You are the youngest servant we have"

My breath caught but I managed pull back my hand from his grip.

His smile faltered but he smiled again, a smirk that made my stomach drop.

I stepped back as he came close. He cupped my face making me squeeze my eyes as hard as I can.

"You are so beautiful to be a servant. If you want, you can make a lot of money" He said, his voice dripping with menace.

I mustered up my courage and stepped back.

"Sir, please go. I need to sleep" I managed to say that. I was calm but firm enough to falter his smile but this time he seemed to be angry.

His hand tightened around the back of my neck, and I couldn't break free.

"Sir, please...." I pleaded.

"You will suffer..." He hissed before shoving me away.

He left the room but I still didn't feel safe. Something inside me refused to settle. He didn't leave like a man who lost. He left like a man who would come back.

I exhaled slowly.

This door doesn't even have a lock.

Back in my room

I looked at the mirror. The red marks from the slap laid on my swollen cheek. Tears welled up in my eyes. I gentle tried to touch my cheek, only to feel that sharp pain again.

I gathered my dresses and packed them in my bag.. Getting ready to leave whenever I need to.
