Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: The First Battle (Part 3)

"I'll kill you!"

At that moment, Venusaur's trainer—the girl named Zi Ling—suddenly roared in anger and rushed toward Rex, teeth clenched.

But before she could take more than a step, the man named Ziqiu grabbed her arm and pulled her back.

"Sis, calm down! Recall Venusaur and send it to the Pokémon Center for treatment first!"

His words snapped her back to reality.

Zi Ling quickly returned Venusaur to its Poké Ball and turned to leave.

"Hey, hey, hey! What do you think you're doing? You lost and now you're trying to run away?"

Rex immediately called out when he saw someone trying to escape.

"If you dare run, I'll beat your two companions half to death. Believe it or not."

In his middle-aged disguise, Rex no longer looked easygoing.

His face was fierce and intimidating.

The moment the threat left his mouth, Zi Ling stopped in her tracks.

Seeing this, Rex's expression softened into a smile.

"Of course, if you're willing to admit defeat on behalf of your teammates and transfer the money to me now, I don't mind letting you leave early."

The three exchanged uncertain looks.

They were clearly hesitating.

Should they admit defeat?

Or keep fighting?

"It's fine. Don't let him scare you."

Finally, Xu Zheng—the leader of the trio—spoke.

"Ziqiu's Charizard and my Croconaw are still able to fight. We might not necessarily lose."

He paused and continued.

"Don't forget—that's just a Pidgey. It hasn't even evolved once. It's not a Legendary Pokémon. There's no way it can spam Hyper Beam like it's a basic move."

"No matter how talented it is, there have to be limits based on its species. Using Hyper Beam twice is already ridiculous. I refuse to believe it has the strength to use it a third time."

"And even if it somehow manages to use it again, the power will definitely be weaker. If it collides with Charizard's Flamethrower, that bird will be roasted instantly."

Even as he said this, Ziqiu and Zi Ling both noticed the cold sweat running down Xu Zheng's forehead.

Still, neither of them objected.

None of them wanted the humiliation of losing three-on-one to a Pidgey.

The battle continued.

"Croconaw, fall back. Let Charizard take over!"

Xu Zheng ordered Croconaw to retreat to a supporting role.

Against a Flying-type, most of Croconaw's attacks would struggle to hit.

Letting Charizard face Pidgey directly was the smarter decision.

"Charizard, attack! Close the distance and use Wing Attack!"

Now that Charizard had become the main attacker, its trainer Zhang Ziqiu immediately issued a command.

Charizard roared, spread its massive wings, and shot through the sky toward Pidgey.

Seeing this, Rex smiled faintly.

"Pidgey, Steel Wing."

"Pidgey~!"

Pidgey spread its wings.

In an instant, the thin feathers hardened like polished steel, reflecting the sunlight.

Without hesitation, it flew straight toward Charizard.

Clang!

A crisp metallic sound rang out as the two wings collided.

Shockingly—

Pidgey did not fall behind at all.

The spectators erupted once again.

"Steel Wing! It can use Steel Wing too?!"

"My god… is that really a Pidgey?"

"This is completely destroying my understanding of Pokémon!"

"I don't care anymore. My next Pokémon is definitely going to be a Pidgey!"

Meanwhile, the three opponents simply swallowed nervously.

They had nothing left to say.

A Pidgey barely larger than a sparrow was colliding head-on with a Charizard weighing nearly 200 kilograms—and it wasn't losing.

How were they supposed to fight something like this?

"Charizard, Smokescreen!"

Unable to think of a proper strategy, Zhang Ziqiu started issuing random commands, hoping to obscure Pidgey's vision with smoke.

Charizard roared.

During the next wing clash, it suddenly released thick black smoke from its mouth.

"Idiot."

Rex couldn't help sneering.

How much could a vision-blocking move like that affect a Flying-type Pokémon?

Instead, it gave him the perfect chance to finish the fight.

"Pidgey, Tactic Number One."

"Tactic Number One?"

The trio's hearts tightened.

That mysterious name alone filled them with unease.

"Charizard, get out of the smoke and prepare Flamethrower!" Zhang Ziqiu hurriedly ordered.

Charizard retreated as commanded, flames gathering in its mouth.

The next second—

Three Pidgey burst out of the smoke, each charging forward with Hyper Beam energy forming in its mouth.

Everyone's eyes widened in confusion.

But someone in the crowd quickly reacted.

"That's Double Team! Two of them are fake!"

Zhang Ziqiu immediately shouted,

"Charizard, Flamethrower! Hit all three!"

Charizard unleashed the flames it had already prepared.

The fire swept across the three Pidgey.

The closest one vanished instantly.

Then the second disappeared as well.

If that was the case—

The real one had to be the last.

"Charizard! Focus all the flames on the last one!" Zhang Ziqiu yelled.

Charizard poured all its remaining strength into a final Flamethrower.

Whoosh—

The last Pidgey disappeared too.

Fake.

It was still a fake.

The trio's hearts sank instantly.

And at that moment—

From within the thick smoke came a violent roar.

A black beam of energy shot out.

BOOM!!

The beam struck Charizard directly.

Charizard was blasted dozens of meters through the air, smashing through several large trees before crashing to the ground.

It had completely lost the ability to battle.

Moments later, under everyone's stunned gaze—

Pidgey slowly flew out of the smoke.

Like a war god descending from the sky.

Its sharp eyes locked onto the last remaining opponent.

Croconaw.

Croconaw stared back.

But this time, the ferocious expression from earlier was gone.

Instead—

There was fear.

Every stronger teammate had just been defeated by this tiny bird.

Croconaw panicked.

A second later, it suddenly turned around and ran, hiding behind its trainer.

Its will to fight had completely collapsed.

Rex shouted loudly,

"Are you still fighting?"

The trio glared at him through clenched teeth.

What kind of question was that?

Their last Pokémon had been psychologically crushed.

How could they possibly continue?

Seeing their expressions, Rex walked toward them confidently.

At the same time, Mew flew back onto his shoulder and communicated with him using Telepathy.

"Master, how was my tactical execution?"

Rex gently patted its head.

"Perfect. Absolutely perfect. Tactic Number One was executed flawlessly."

"Tactic Number One" had actually been something Rex and Mew came up with earlier while the three opponents were debating whether to continue fighting.

The plan was simple—

Repeat the same trick used to defeat Venusaur, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
