Chapter 1 - 1

Chapter one!

Kayla's POV

...

"Oh. My. Goddess!!" Exclaimed the first commentator, Quinn Woodlocke. "Jake Starre being powerbombed by Brody Klayne from the onset?"

"Oh dear, is his spine ok?" The second commentator, Xavier McCartney, chimed in in a dramatic manner, "My, this is gonna be a legendary match, I can smell it!"

"Your wolf nose wouldn't deceive you, I'm a believer! I'm all pumped up to see how this goes. But things are looking really bad for Jake. You think he'd survive this first round without tapping out?" Asked Quinn.

Xavier drew in a sharp breath: "I'm not too sure! Jake's never tapped out to anyone in his career, meeting someone like Brody...I fear for the worst. If I were the one in the ring right now, I would probably have received a free ticket to heaven!"

Seeing my favourite fighter in such a bad shape from the sit-out back slam just performed by his opponent, I was furious.

"Damn you, Brody! " I cussed his opponent, my eyes glued to the TV screen. "Jake, you can do it," I said with my fingers balled tightly into fists.

"Sit down, you wretch, you're blocking the view." Complained a bearded man behind me.

We were all sat my neighbour's home. He usually allowed people to watch the livestream of VFA matches, for a tiny fee of course. The front seats though, one has to pay a bit higher and I usually avoided that. But not tonight.

Tonight was a match between my favorite and a legendary fighter who just like Jake, hadn't tapped out to anyone. All his opponents were brutalized and sometimes he would prevent them from tapping out or even stop pinning down the opponent before the referee could achieve the third count.

With him being paired up with Jake, I had been so fired up that I bet half my salary that he would win.

And then, I took this VIP seat for the first time, wanting to get the best view. Notably, most of the people seated here were actually Brody's fans and they had betted on his win.

"Pay for a seat like mine next time you big chicken," I scoffed as I replied the bearded fellow.

"How dare you call me a chicken? I'm of the glorious Eagle race,"

Yeah, right. He was a bird shifter but so what?

I scoffed, "Explains why you're bald," I retorted before sitting down and crossing my legs. Then I turned my head to face him. "Besides, I wonder if your wings are still willing to carry you in the air. I mean...look at you,"

"You..." The man was speechless and I scoffed again, focusing my gaze once more on the screen.

I didn't mind the glares I received, they were of no value to me. My eyes focused on the displayed ring where a blond dressed in black leather pants and an unzipped red leather jacket was walking about the ring, arms spread sideways, nodding his head with a smug expression to which many in the crowd cheered to.

I guess even among the live audience, that bastard had more fans.

The opponent, my favorite, on the floor was dressed in a black leather jumpsuit that was half-zipped, revealing a portion of his hairless chest.

He lay on the mat, his chest slowly heaving, arms spread sideways, his brows drawn together in pain.

"Come on, Jake, don't give up!" I whisper-yelled. Half of my salary was at stake here.

Suddenly, Brody took off his jacket, throwing it at the crowd and some lucky girl in glasses caught it, hugging it to her chest like she just discovered a gold mine.

"Shit! How I so wish I could teleport in there and snatch that jacket!" A girl from behind said, her tone full of longing, making me scoff.

"If I could touch that hairy chest, I'll be content for life," an effeminate man who had also paid for front row seat said. He was seated beside me, his eyes practically sparkling.

I scoffed once more.

What was good about a hairy chest? In my opinion, he was no different from a caveman. In contrast, Jake's chest was more pleasing to the eyes.

On screen, the blond was flexing his muscles and even bucking his hips for a brief while before stepping on Blake's gut, leading him to emit a pained groan.

My heart ached for him.

"Oh no, he's going to climb the top rope!" exclaimed the second commentator.

The cheers of the live audience and that of the fans in this room were deafening, making me cover my ears unhappily.

"Could this be the end of Jake's reign?"

"Reigns are meant to be overthrown and Jake might be unable to defend his title as VFA champion tonight," said the first commentator.

The blond fighter gleefully gave a salute to the audience before landing a perfect horizontal body slam on Jake, making the latter's torso rise for a second before lying unmoving on the mat.

The referee rushed to their spot, got on all fours and started hitting the mat.

My heart sank as the blond bastard's fans counted cheerfully. My money...gone like smoke!

"One!!"

"Two!!"

Unexpectedly, something happened.

"Oh my goddess! Are you seeing this? Jake's being completely brutalized from the onset of this match and he still has the strength to kick out?!" It was the first commentator.

"Gosh, my mind is totally blown!" exclaimed his partner, Xavier.

"You think there's a chance he'd make a comeback?" Asked the first commentator.

"You'll never know,"

As for me, I was excited.

"Yes!!" I screamed at the top of my voice, not minding how much it affected my throat. "Teach that Blondie a lesson he'll never forget!"

Brody's fans in the room were pissed and rained curses on me for a brief while but I wasn't affected. My eyes were glued to the screen. To me, they were just background noise, nothing to be taken seriously.

Jake's opponent was pissed. He thought he already had it in the bag but things didn't go his way.

He rose and glared at Jake who was now struggling to his feet.

Unable to bottle up the rage coursing wildly though his veins, the blond kicked Jake's left shoulder, sending him down, groaning.

Then Brody leaned forward, palms on his knees, "Come on, get up! I don't have all night!"

Each time Jake tried to get up, his foe kicked him down, targeting several parts of his body.

Finally, my favourite stopped bothering and the blond took this chance to stomp a few times on Blake's back, trying to vent his anger.

Subsequently, he rolled Blake over and lifted him high up by his hips, drawing a thunderous cheer from his fans in the room and on television.

"Finish him!"

"Pulverize that garbage!"

All manner of remarks flew from the excited fans' mouths. I resisted the urge to get up and challenge them to a fight, choosing instead to keep my eyes fixed on my favourite, my eyes red-rimmed.

"Please, you have to win," I muttered, even though the odds were in the other's favour greatly.

And just like that, Jake's back harshly hit the mat for the second time and this sit

-out backbuster was even more devastating than the last.

Brody took this chance to cradle his opponent's legs and pin them almost to the floor on the sides of his head.

My heart sank into the murky waters of despair.

It was...over.

I closed my eyes, not wanting to see his defeat.

"One!!"

"Two!!"

"Oh my goddess!!" The first commentator's yell made my eyes fling open.

And upon seeing the scene on the ring, my heart bubbled with hope and joy.

'Perhaps, he can really turn this around.' I thought in excitement.

Having freed himself from his opponent's nasty grip, Jake pushed him away, giving him time to get back on his feet.

"Argghh! Why don't you just stay down?!" His frustrated opponent growled, chest heaving.

Now on his feet, Jake glared at his opponent. Ah, he looked so dashing in that moment!

"Because... I don't know how to!" He responded.

The furious opponent charged at him with a battle yell but he dodged it, leading Brody to collide with the ropes.

And Blake ran to collide with him from behind before encircling the latter's neck with his elbow, mercilessly dragging him to the center of the ring, away from the ropes.

However, Brody managed to extricate himself out of Blake's hold and then punched him in left shoulder. The impact was so much that Jake staggered back a few steps before tumbling to the floor on his butt.

Subsequently, he tried to get of the ring to catch himself a bit of respite but his opponent didn't allow him. Brody dragged him by his hair and DDT'ed him with the commentators praising him, even making a replay of his big moves on Jake so far. They also debated on how much more Jake's body could endure before giving out.

Brody dragged him further to his ideal spot before climbing to the top rope, eliciting cheers from his fans.
