Chapter 18 - Chapter 18 – Shadows of the Past

The calm Adam had fought so hard to achieve was fragile.

From the corner of his office, Selene's tablet buzzed with alerts—transactions, communications, movements—traces of someone trying to rebuild Kane's empire. But these weren't just minor players.

"Adam… look at this," Selene said, her tone urgent. "They're organized. More dangerous than Kane's old lieutenants. They've studied his tactics… and yours."

Adam frowned. "They've learned fast. Someone's orchestrating this from the shadows."

Lina came closer, resting her hand on his arm. "Do you think Kane left them behind?"

Adam shook his head. "No… Kane's empire was destroyed. This isn't him. This is someone else. Someone who thinks they can take what Kane couldn't."

Selene added, "They're not just after money—they're after control, influence… and you. Whoever is behind this knows your weaknesses."

Adam clenched his fists. "Then we make them regret it. We've faced worse, survived worse. This is just another storm we have to navigate."

Lina's eyes softened as she looked at him. "And we face it together, right?"

Adam nodded, a rare, steady smile crossing his face. "Together."

Outside, the city moved on, oblivious to the brewing danger. But Adam knew the shadows of the past never truly disappeared. They lingered, waiting for the slightest chance to strike.

And as he looked at Lina, at Selene, at the empire he had reclaimed, Adam realized one truth:

No matter how strong the enemies, no matter how cunning the schemes, he was ready to protect everything he loved—even if it meant facing the darkest corners of his past once again.

The war wasn't over.

It was just entering its deadliest chapter.
