Chapter 16 - Chapter 16 : The Invitation

Morning sunlight reflected across the wide skyline of Tokyo.

For most citizens, it was another ordinary day.

For Haruki Akizawa…

It was the beginning of something much larger.

The timeline he remembered was about to reach its first movie-scale disaster event.

And this time—

He would be inside it.

Morning — Mouri Detective Agency

Inside Mouri Detective Agency, Kogoro Mouri held a fancy envelope.

His eyes sparkled.

"A luxury cruise invitation!"

Across the room, Ran Mori smiled with surprise.

"A cruise?"

On the couch, Conan Edogawa looked up.

Kogoro cleared his throat dramatically.

"It says here that famous detective Kogoro Mouri is invited to attend a special event aboard a luxury cruise ship tonight!"

Ran clasped her hands.

"That sounds amazing!"

Kogoro grinned proudly.

"Heh! My reputation is spreading worldwide!"

Conan muttered quietly.

"Or someone wants to use you."

He reached for the invitation letter.

Reading carefully.

His eyes narrowed.

The event would take place aboard the cruise ship Aphrodite Cruise Ship.

And something about the invitation felt… strange.

Meanwhile — Haruki

Haruki stood outside a small café in Beika City.

In his hand—

The exact same invitation.

He read the card calmly.

"Special guest invitation."

Luxury cruise.

Evening departure.

Just as he remembered.

The first major movie-scale disaster case approaching.

Then—

DING

Haruki closed the system window slowly.

The event had officially begun.

But something about the system description bothered him.

"Floating Bomb…"

That wasn't exactly how he remembered the original case.

Meaning—

The timeline had changed.

Someone had modified the scenario.

Which meant the mastermind from the bomb test might be involved again.

Haruki adjusted his glasses.

"Interesting."

Afternoon — Conan's Suspicion

Later that day, Conan walked beside Ran toward the harbor.

The massive cruise ship could already be seen in the distance.

White.

Luxurious.

Towering above the docks.

The Aphrodite Cruise Ship.

Ran smiled brightly.

"This is going to be fun!"

Kogoro puffed his chest.

"Of course! Famous detectives get invited to places like this!"

But Conan wasn't listening.

His eyes were scanning the boarding area.

Then—

He saw someone familiar.

Haruki Akizawa.

Standing calmly in line.

Conan blinked.

"Of course you're here too."

Haruki glanced briefly toward Conan.

Their eyes met.

Neither spoke.

But both understood something important.

This case would not be simple.

Boarding the Ship

Passengers filled the deck as the cruise ship prepared to depart.

Elegant music played.

Champagne glasses clinked.

Wealthy guests laughed.

Everything looked peaceful.

But Haruki activated Strategic Foresight immediately.

Possible Scenarios:

• Kidnapping — 14%

• Murder — 21%

• Bombing — 48%

• Multi-event crime — 17%

Bombing remained the highest probability.

Which meant the device was already onboard.

Somewhere among the thousands of rooms and passengers.

Haruki scanned the crowd.

Then—

Micro Expression Analysis activated.

One man stood near the railing.

Sweating.

Eyes constantly scanning the deck.

His expression showed anxiety.

But also anticipation.

Haruki focused on him.

Probability analysis appeared.

Suspicious Passenger

Hostile Intent Probability:

32%

Insufficient evidence.

Haruki moved closer casually.

But just then—

Conan suddenly grabbed his sleeve.

"Hey."

Haruki looked down.

Conan's eyes were sharp.

"You feel it too, don't you?"

Haruki raised an eyebrow.

"Feel what?"

Conan whispered.

"Something's wrong with this cruise."

Haruki remained silent.

Then answered quietly.

"I thought you liked mysteries."

Conan smirked slightly.

"I do."

"But I also like surviving them."

For the first time—

Both detectives stood side by side on the deck.

Not rivals.

Not allies.

Something in between.

Deep Inside the Ship

Hidden within the lower maintenance deck—

A metal case ticked quietly.

Inside it—

A powerful explosive device.

Connected to multiple secondary triggers.

A digital timer displayed:

05:12:43

Footsteps echoed nearby.

A man closed the maintenance door.

Then spoke into a small radio.

"The bomb is in place."

A distorted voice answered.

"Good."

The man hesitated.

"But there are too many passengers."

The voice replied calmly.

"That's the point."

Silence followed.

Then the voice spoke again.

"And watch Haruki Akizawa carefully."

The man froze.

"You know about him?"

The voice chuckled softly.

"I know everything about him."

On the Deck

Haruki suddenly stopped walking.

Danger Prediction activated strongly.

[ SYSTEM ALERT ]

Explosive threat detected.

Distance: Within ship.

Time Unknown.

Haruki looked toward the lower deck.

His eyes sharpened.

The bomb was already armed.

Meaning the game had officially begun.

At the same moment—

Conan's instincts screamed as well.

He looked toward Haruki.

"You noticed something."

Haruki answered calmly.

"Yes."

Conan crossed his arms.

"What?"

Haruki looked toward the ocean horizon.

Then spoke quietly.

"This cruise may sink."

Conan stared at him.

Then smiled slightly.

"Then we should probably stop that."

The sun slowly set behind the ocean.

The massive ship continued moving farther from shore.

Thousands of passengers celebrated.

Unaware.

Deep below them—

A bomb ticked closer toward detonation.

And somewhere on the ship—

The mysterious mastermind watched everything unfold.

Waiting to see which detective would win.
