Chapter 1 - The Little Fairy in the Snow

The forest was dying.

Branches snapped beneath heavy snow, and the wind howled through the ancient pines like a wounded animal. Blood stained the white ground, spreading slowly across the frozen earth.

A small body lay half-buried beneath the snow.

Tiny wings once shimmering like glass were now torn and broken.

The fairy could barely breathe.

Her body was no bigger than a human hand. Her golden hair was matted with blood, and the light that once surrounded her flickered weakly.

Fairies were creatures of light.

Creatures of warmth.

Creatures that should never be in a place like this.

But tonight… she was running for her life.

Her pursuers were close.

She could feel them.

Dark creatures.

Hunters.

The fairy tried to move her wings again, but a sharp pain shot through her chest.

She whimpered softly.

"Please… someone…"

Her voice was barely a whisper.

Then suddenly

CRACK.

Footsteps.

Heavy footsteps.

Something large was approaching through the trees.

The fairy froze in terror.

A massive shadow stepped into the clearing.

Golden eyes glowed in the darkness.

A wolf.

No.

Something much worse.

A werewolf.

Tall.

Huge.

Powerful.

Even in his half-shifted form, he looked like a creature born for violence.

The young boy stared at the tiny fairy lying in the snow.

He had never seen something like her before.

She looked so small.

So fragile.

Like a dying star.

The fairy trembled in fear.

Werewolves were predators.

And she was prey.

The boy slowly crouched down.

His golden eyes narrowed.

"...What are you?"

The fairy tried to move away but collapsed weakly.

"Please… don't eat me…"

Her tiny voice broke with exhaustion.

The boy frowned.

Eat her?

She was smaller than his hand.

He could crush her without trying.

But instead of killing her…

He reached out his hand.

The fairy flinched.

But the boy gently lifted her from the snow.

She was warm.

Soft.

And incredibly light.

His heart did something strange.

Something unfamiliar.

"…You're hurt."

He muttered quietly.

The fairy looked at him with wide silver eyes.

"Why… are you helping me?"

The boy hesitated.

He didn't know the answer.

Maybe it was because she looked so fragile.

Maybe it was because something deep inside his chest felt tight when he saw her bleeding.

Or maybe…

It was fate.

"You're safe now," he said simply.

And for the first time since the hunters started chasing her

The fairy closed her eyes.

She trusted him.

The boy brought the tiny fairy back to the werewolf camp.

At first, the other wolves were shocked.

"What the hell is that?"

"A fairy?"

"Why would you bring prey here?"

But the boy ignored them.

He placed her gently inside a wooden box lined with soft fur.

Every day he brought her food.

Drops of honey.

Petals.

Fresh water.

Slowly…

Her wings began to heal.

Days turned into weeks.

Weeks turned into months.

The fairy started talking to him.

Her voice was soft and bright, like wind chimes in spring.

"You're very kind for a werewolf."

The boy scoffed.

"I'm not kind."

"You saved me."

"That doesn't make me kind."

She laughed softly.

He liked that sound more than he should.

The fairy learned his name.

Kael.

And Kael learned hers.

Liora.

At night, she would sit on his shoulder while he walked through the forest.

"You know…" she said one evening, staring up at the moon.

"Fairies live much longer than werewolves."

Kael shrugged.

"So?"

"So… one day you'll grow old."

"And?"

"And I'll still look the same."

Kael smirked.

"Then you'll just have to protect me when I'm old."

The fairy smiled.

"…I would."

But deep inside her heart

She knew something Kael didn't.

Fairies were forbidden from bonding with werewolves.

If the Fairy Court discovered her here…

They would kill him.

One morning…

She was gone.

The wooden box was empty.

The fur blanket untouched.

The honey jar full.

Kael searched the forest for three days.

He searched until his feet bled.

Until his throat was raw from calling her name.

But the little fairy he saved…

Had disappeared without a trace.

Years passed.

The boy became a man.

Kael grew into the strongest warrior of his pack.

Tall.

Dangerous.

Feared.

But something inside him had never healed.

A small empty space in his chest.

Sometimes at night he thought he heard the sound of tiny wings.

But when he turned…

There was nothing.

Then one night

Everything changed.

The pack was ambushed.

Rogue hunters attacked their territory.

Blood spilled across the battlefield.

Claws tore flesh.

Wolves howled in rage.

When the fighting finally ended…

Kael noticed something strange.

One survivor.

A human girl.

Unconscious.

Covered in blood.

She was trembling violently from shock.

One of the pack members frowned.

"She must have been captured by the hunters."

Another shrugged.

"Leave her."

But Kael stepped forward.

Something about her felt…

Familiar.

Her scent was faint.

Almost nonexistent.

As if it had been deliberately hidden.

But still

Something deep inside him stirred.

A dark instinct.

Possessive.

Violent.

His wolf growled inside his chest.

Mine.

Kael's golden eyes darkened.

"…Bring her with us."

The pack stared at him.

"You're keeping a human?"

Kael didn't look away from the unconscious girl.

His voice was quiet.

Dangerous.

"Yes."

Because something inside him already knew.

Even if his mind did not.

The little fairy he once saved…

Had finally returned.

And this time

He would never let her disappear again.
