"Shadow Over Eclipsea"
Morning light usually filled the streets of Astravale, but today the sunlight looked weak, almost tired. Tall towers cast longer shadows than usual, and the wind moved slowly through the city like it carried a warning.
At the training courtyard of Eclipse Star Academy, Aren stood alone near the stone fountain. He held a wooden practice blade, but he wasn't training. His attention was fixed on the sky.
The sun looked normal at first glance, yet something about the light felt wrong.
Behind him, footsteps approached.
"Thinking too hard again?" said Raikon Blaze.
Raikon stretched his arms as he walked across the courtyard. His red hair moved in the wind like a small flame, and his usual confident smile appeared on his face.
Aren lowered the wooden blade.
"Do you feel that?" he asked.
Raikon looked around.
"Feel what? The wind? The boredom?"
Aren shook his head slowly.
"The air feels heavy."
Raikon was about to joke again, but before he spoke, another voice joined the conversation.
"He's right."
Both of them turned.
From the shaded side of the courtyard, Kairo stepped forward. His calm expression made it hard to tell what he was thinking, but his eyes were already studying the sky.
"The atmosphere changed during the night," Kairo said quietly. "I noticed it during patrol."
Raikon crossed his arms.
"You two and your mysterious feelings."
But even as he spoke, Raikon glanced upward.
The sun was still there, yet the light around it seemed dimmer than it should have been.
Before anyone could say anything else, the heavy doors of the academy opened.
Master Argen Vale walked outside.
The old warrior rarely appeared in the courtyard this early. His long white hair moved gently in the wind, and his staff tapped against the stone ground as he walked.
Aren straightened respectfully.
"Master."
Argen stopped beside them and looked toward the sky.
For several seconds, he said nothing.
That silence made the three younger fighters uneasy.
Finally Raikon spoke.
"Alright, something's definitely wrong if even the master is staring at the sky."
Argen lowered his eyes slowly.
"The signs have returned," he said.
Aren frowned.
"What signs?"
Argen raised his staff and pointed upward.
"Watch."
The three of them followed his gaze.
At first nothing happened.
Then slowly… very slowly… the edge of the sun began to darken.
A black shape moved across it.
Raikon's smile disappeared.
"Is that…?"
Aren nodded quietly.
"The Eclipse."
Across the city, bells suddenly began ringing from the watchtowers.
CLANG.
CLANG.
CLANG.
Citizens looked upward in confusion.
Merchants stepped away from their stalls. Children pointed at the sky.
The shadow over the sun grew larger.
Light faded across Astravale.
Within minutes the bright golden sun was almost completely hidden, leaving only a glowing ring around the dark center.
The city fell into an unnatural twilight.
Raikon exhaled slowly.
"Well… that's not good."
Kairo's eyes narrowed.
"The timing is wrong," he said. "An eclipse wasn't predicted."
Argen's voice became more serious.
"This is not a normal eclipse."
Aren looked at him quickly.
"What do you mean?"
Argen turned toward the northern horizon beyond the city walls.
"In history," he said, "whenever the Eclipse appeared like this… something followed it."
Raikon raised an eyebrow.
"Let me guess. Monsters?"
Argen did not smile.
"Yes."
As if answering his words, a loud alarm horn suddenly sounded from the north gate.
The sound echoed across the city.
Raikon's flames flickered around his hands automatically.
"Well," he said, "that was fast."
A guard ran through the academy entrance, breathing hard.
"Master Argen!" the guard shouted.
"Shadow creatures have appeared outside the northern wall!"
Aren's grip tightened around his training blade.
Kairo stepped forward immediately.
"How many?"
"At least twenty," the guard replied. "More coming from the forest."
Raikon cracked his knuckles.
"Finally something interesting."
But Argen raised his hand.
"Wait."
The young fighters stopped.
Argen looked up at the darkened sky again.
The glowing ring of the Eclipse pulsed faintly above Astravale.
"Something is guiding them," he said quietly.
Aren followed his gaze.
"You think the Eclipse is connected?"
Argen nodded once.
"I am certain."
Raikon grinned again, flames rising around his fists.
"Then we should stop it before the whole city becomes monster lunch."
Kairo already started walking toward the gate.
"Talking won't help the guards," he said.
Aren took one last look at the sky.
The Eclipse felt different from anything he had seen before.
Almost alive.
Almost watching.
A strange energy moved through his chest for a brief moment.
He didn't understand it.
But he knew one thing.
This day would change everything.
Aren turned toward the gate.
"Let's move."
Raikon laughed as flames burst around his fists.
"Now this feels like a real morning."
And under the shadow of the Eclipse, the three heroes ran toward their first true battle.
