Chapter 16 - Grandfather’s Last Secret

The courtyard was quiet under the early morning sun, the plum trees swaying gently in the breeze. Michael and Matthew had risen before dawn, their bodies still sore from the previous cultivation session. Even so, a restless energy filled them, a mixture of anticipation and curiosity that they could not shake.

"Do you think grandfather really left us anything else?" Michael asked, leaning against the wooden railing. His dark eyes scanned the study door, half-expecting some hidden compartment to glow in response.

Matthew paused mid-step, tilting his head toward a shadowed corner of the room. "There's… something over there," he said, pointing at a wooden chest tucked beneath the old shelf. Its surface was weathered, the lacquered paint chipped in places, and a thin layer of dust had settled on the lid.

Michael's brow furrowed. "That wasn't there yesterday." He stepped forward cautiously and ran a hand over the chest. It felt heavier than it looked. "Grandfather… you really liked hiding things."

Matthew crouched beside him, examining the chest carefully. "It's old. The wood looks like it's been treated with spiritual energy… maybe even hundreds of years old."

With a shared glance, they lifted the lid. A faint puff of dust rose, shimmering slightly in the morning light. Inside was a small jade box, perfectly smooth and engraved with an intricate Yin-Yang pattern. The twins' breath caught; something about the craftsmanship felt alive.

Matthew opened the box carefully. Inside lay a tiny crystal vial, glowing faintly with a golden light that seemed to pulse like a heartbeat. He held it up, mesmerized. "It's… condensed Qi?"

The courtyard air suddenly shifted. A faint, almost imperceptible ripple of energy passed through them. The dragon turtle spirit stirred within their minds, its voice calm but resonant.

This is the last preparation of your grandfather. It contains condensed energy from a long-forgotten realm.Use it wisely… it will accelerate your cultivation, but it comes at a cost.

Michael carefully held the vial between his fingers. "If we use this… we could push past the first stage much faster." His lips curved in a determined smile. "But it could also kill us if we're not careful."

Matthew examined the vial, his eyes narrowing. "Grandfather left this for a reason. He knew the Long Airloom Technique was dangerous. We can't waste this… but we have to prepare. Training our bodies first, controlling our Qi, is more important than rushing."

The dragon turtle's presence deepened in their minds, a quiet but constant pulse of energy. Your grandfather understood the path you must take. He saw what the clan could not. This vial is not simply a tool—it is a seed. Plant it well, and it will grow into power beyond imagination.

Michael nodded. "Then we'll start tomorrow. For now, we focus on cultivation and skill. We can't rely on shortcuts."

As the sun rose higher, casting golden rays across the courtyard, neither twin noticed the faint ripple of spiritual energy that passed silently over the walls of the branch residence. Far above them, hidden in the shadows of the mountains, eyes watched. Whispered conversations passed between unseen figures.

"These two… they're advancing faster than expected," one elder said, his voice low and dangerous.

The other shook his head. "We must observe them carefully. If the Long Airloom Technique is truly in use… we may be facing something beyond our understanding."

Inside the courtyard, Michael and Matthew trained with quiet intensity, unaware that the first threads of a greater web were already beginning to wrap around them. The dragon turtle spirit hovered in their consciousness, unseen yet felt, ready to guide them as the final seeds of their grandfather's plan took root.

And so, the first day of preparation drew to a close, with the twin boys unknowingly stepping closer to the path that would change the Yin-Yang Clan—and the world—forever.
