Chapter 2 - An Opportunity from the Hell of the Past

Chapter 2: An Opportunity from the Hell of the Past

"Ryan" woke up groaning from a pounding pain that felt like it would split his head in two. He clutched his disheveled black hair and sat up slowly, his eyes still closed from the dizziness.

"Damn... my head is so heavy, like I drank liters of alcohol..." he muttered in a hoarse voice, trying to gather his wits.

His eyes opened gradually, to see an old, worn-out bed cover, then his eyes roamed the place. His body froze for a moment; these cracked walls, the familiar smell of humidity, the small wooden window...

"This... this is my room in the village?" he whispered in disbelief, jumping from his bed despite the dizziness. "How can this be? Didn't my family move to the city after my older brother bought a house? And more importantly... didn't I die? That car ran me over... I remember the blood, and I remember... her betrayal."

He stood up swaying, supporting himself on the wall until he reached an old mirror hanging in a corner of the room. He took a step back in shock before approaching again to examine the reflection.

This was not the shattered thirty-year-old actor. Before the mirror stood a young man in the prime of life, his skin dry with some small pimples spreading, his eyes looked smaller and less brilliant, and his hair was dry and lacked care. Even his body was not athletic, it was flabby with some annoying fat.

"This is me... in my college days!" he screamed inside him. "Where is my phone? I need to know the date!" He searched everywhere but didn't find the smartphone he owned; for in this time, maybe he didn't even own one yet.

And while he was drowning in his confusion, the air suddenly vibrated, and a brilliant golden light burst forth directly before his eyes.

[ Congratulations, Sir, on acquiring the 'Ability Embodiment System'. ]

Ryan took a step back, his heart beating violently: "What is this? Am I hallucinating before my death?"

Suddenly, a calm mechanical voice came from the screen: "Welcome, Sir. I am the Ability Embodiment System... Any role you act will become reality."

Ryan's eyes widened, a spark of greed and hope glinting in them: "Huh? Really? Any role?... Then, if I act the role of an enormously wealthy person, will I become the richest person in the world?"

The system responded with technical coldness: "No, Sir, it's not that easy. You will obtain only one feature from the role you act. And there are strict conditions: First, the Host is not allowed to add external features to the original role (you must adhere to the text). Second, if you abandon the role in the middle of acting, the reward will be withdrawn immediately."

Ryan stood silent, looking at his trembling hands then at the mirror. It was not just a dream, he had returned, and with the weapon that would make the world kneel at his feet...

[Question for Readers]

What should his first role be with the system?
