Chapter 385: The Room They Couldn't See
Day 32 opened no differently than Day 31 had. That was the strange part.
Kai's pool sat at ninety-five percent, the ceiling holding for the fifth morning running. He wrote the number down, then sat with the book open a while longer than usual.
"Zero days," he said, mostly to himself. "If the count holds."
The record-keeper boy found him there, ledger already open, pen already moving. "Thirty-one days since we made camp," he said. "I checked it twice, the way I always do. Today's the harder number, though."
"Which one's that?"
"The hearing. Soren's count says today. But it's Soren's count, not a letter, not a rider. We don't get to know for certain. Not today. Not for six more days after today, if it happens the way he thinks."
