Chapter 11 - Team Eleven’s Survival Exercise

Training Ground No.118

Weather: Sunny

The air in June was somewhat dry. The scorching heat of summer made people wish they could stay home all day enjoying the cool breeze of an air conditioner.

"Before the trial begins, I bought chakra test papers for you," Bai Xing said, raising three sheets of white paper in his hand. "Just channel chakra into them, and you'll be able to determine your chakra nature."

As someone born into a major clan, Uchiha Mikoto pouted. Wearing her backpack and black leather shoes, she kicked lightly at the grass beneath her feet.

"I already tested that a long time ago."

"Fire and Lightning."

"Great. That saves the teacher some money. Thank you."

"You're welcome, cheapskate!" Mikoto stuck out her tongue playfully.

Bai Xing ignored her reaction and looked toward the other two.

Yakushi Nono accepted one of the chakra papers. The moment she infused chakra into it, the sheet reacted immediately—half of it became wet, while the other half crumbled into pieces.

"Water and Earth," Bai Xing said. "You're very suitable for being a support-type ninja. Your chakra control is also ideal for becoming a medical ninja."

"Yes!"

Becoming a medical ninja had always been Nono's dream, and she jumped excitedly.

But Bai Xing's next sentence quickly crushed her excitement.

"However, unfortunately, I'm not a medical ninja. I don't know medical ninjutsu, and even my medical knowledge is only superficial. I can't train a medical ninja."

"Ah… as expected, we can't hope much from a genin small-fry teacher like Bai Xing~"

Bai Xing replied flatly, "Don't forget—you're also genin."

Then his gaze turned toward Dai.

"Your turn."

"Me…? Am I even worthy of that…?"

Looking at the chakra paper in Bai Xing's hand, Might Dai suddenly remembered the humiliation he had experienced in the past and hesitated to take it.

"Of course."

Bai Xing frowned slightly. This reaction wasn't strange—after all, Dai was a lifelong genin who specialized only in taijutsu and couldn't even properly perform the Three Basic Techniques.

Dai slowly channeled chakra into the paper.

The sheet was wrapped in faint blue chakra as the others watched nervously.

"..."

One minute passed.

The paper showed no reaction at all.

Bai Xing immediately understood the reason.

Dai's chakra intensity was simply too weak. His ninja bloodline had been diluted almost completely over generations.

"Alright. That's enough."

Hearing this, Dai didn't even dare open his eyes.

"So… what chakra nature do I have?"

Mikoto and Nono exchanged awkward glances, unsure how to comfort him.

Bai Xing stepped forward and took the chakra paper from Dai's hand.

"All attributes. No need to test further."

"Really?!"

Dai immediately opened his eyes.

The chakra paper—now touched by Bai Xing—displayed five different reactions simultaneously:

One corner ignited — Fire

One corner cracked — Wind

One corner wrinkled — Lightning

One corner became wet — Water

One corner crumbled — Earth

All five elemental reactions appeared.

Mikoto and Nono stared at the paper in shock, then looked back at Bai Xing, who seemed completely unconcerned.

After all, now that his chakra capacity and strength had increased, he didn't think this kind of thing needed to be hidden anymore.

"Alright, stop staring at that useless piece of paper," Bai Xing said while pulling training equipment out of his bag.

"As taijutsu ninjas, how can we become obsessed with useless things like that?"

Dai was still grinning foolishly at the paper when Bai Xing snapped him out of it.

Then Bai Xing held up three bells he had bought from a general store that morning.

"Now, the exercise begins."

"Use all your strength."

"Defeat me within one hour."

As long as his ninjutsu continued to "fail" while only his taijutsu remained reliable, there was no way he would be promoted to chūnin, right?

From today onward, he would train the difficult skill of appearing unable to even master the Three Basic Techniques.

"Five attributes are useless?" Mikoto exclaimed.

She was already shocked that Bai Xing possessed all five chakra natures—a rare talent only a few people had.

And yet this six-year genin was acting as if it didn't matter.

"As long as you take the bells, you win," Bai Xing continued.

"You can gang up on me, or—"

"Single combat!"

Mikoto dropped her backpack and crossed her arms, lifting her chin proudly as she tried to look down at the much taller boy.

"Let this Uchiha fire-release genius girl show you how important ninjutsu is for a ninja."

"Alright."

Bai Xing tossed his backpack under a tree.

A standard ninja sword hung at his waist—one he had bought two years ago for 20,000 ryō but rarely used in front of others.

He wore a tight short-sleeved shirt and shorts, a forehead protector on his head, and a ninja tool pouch tied behind his waist.

"What about you two?"

"No objections," Nono said, pulling Dai back to reality.

Dai kept muttering that this wasn't fair. He didn't want to watch Bai Xing get beaten by a younger Mikoto—it would be a devastating blow to Bai Xing's dignity as their teacher.

Soon the field was cleared.

This wasn't inside the village.

Through training inspired by the sensory abilities from One Piece's Observation Haki, Bai Xing had developed a vague sixth sense.

Using that intuition, he judged that there was probably no one watching nearby.

Besides, he had been leading a team for quite some time already. If someone wanted to cause trouble, they would have done so earlier.

Normally, ninja battles followed a pattern:

First taijutsu exchanges,

then kunai and shuriken clashes,

and finally ninjutsu as the finishing move.

But Mikoto skipped straight to forming hand seals.

Snake – Goat – Monkey – Boar – Horse – Tiger

"Sorry, teacher," she said confidently.

"I won't let a small-fry teacher insult the value of ninjutsu."

"Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique!"

As her words fell, blazing flames burst from her lips.

The orange-red fireball rapidly expanded, blazing across the ground as Fire Release chakra propelled it toward Bai Xing.

The warm glow reflected in Bai Xing's eyes.

It had been a long time since he experienced real combat.

Finally, he could have a proper sparring match.

"But… it's too slow."

Bai Xing moved at high speed, leaving behind an afterimage.

From Nono's perspective, Mikoto's massive fireball instantly swallowed the black-haired boy's figure.

But from the eyes of the taijutsu expert Dai—

He caught a glimpse of Bai Xing's movement.

Just a glimpse.

"So fast!"

"That's the taijutsu-based technique normally used by jōnin—the Body Flicker Technique!"

"But… did Bai Xing even use chakra?!"

At that moment, a bizarre thought appeared in Dai's mind.

Perhaps Bai Xing hadn't used any chakra at all.

Perhaps he had performed the Body Flicker purely through raw physical ability.
