Chapter 1 - The Weight of Expectation

Alex grew up in a cozy suburban town, the only child of Mark and Rachel, a loving but demanding couple. Her dad, a former sailor, instilled a love for adventure and the ocean. He pushed Alex to be strong, independent, and driven – sometimes to the point of exhaustion. As a kid, Alex was bubbly and fearless, always climbing trees and fixing bikes. Her parents encouraged her curiosity but also expected top grades and achievements. Alex delivered, becoming a high-achiever in school and sports. But beneath the surface, Alex struggled. Her parents' constant pressure made her feel like she was never enough. She craved their approval, often sacrificing her own desires to meet their expectations. By her teens, Alex was a perfectionist with a fear of failure.

Her relationship with her dad was complicated. Mark was her hero and mentor, but also a harsh critic. He taught her to navigate storms but never how to handle calm seas. Alex learned to push through pain and fear, often ignoring her own needs. It lingered for a while, Alex had a tough love and at everytime love was staring at her she felt it was just a dream.

When Alex turned 18, she left for college, determined to forge her own path. She majored in environmental science, passionate about conservation. Her parents were proud but critical of her choices – they wanted her to pursue a "lucrative" career. Alex's college years were a blur of lectures, internships, and part-time jobs. She dated casually but never let anyone in. Her dad's disapproval of her boyfriends made her wary of relationships. Upon graduating, Alex landed a job at a non-profit focused on marine conservation. Her dad was skeptical – "It's a noble cause, but can you afford it?" – but Alex was thrilled. She threw herself into work, using her drive to mask lingering insecurities.

On her 23rd birthday her dad decided he wanted to take her on a boat cruise, a small island where they could bond, Mark had wanted Racheal to go with them, but Racheal declined, she said "It was a perfect opportunity for Mark to give her reasons for why he was critical and harsh towards her growing up, Racheal knew it would spark up some hidden love Alex had for her dad and she didnt want to be inbetween the experience as she had experienced same love from her dad.

The night before the boat trip, Alex's mom hinted at unresolved tensions. "Your dad's proud of you, kiddo. Just... be careful, okay?" Alex brushed it off, attributing it to parental worry. On the boat, Alex finally felt free. The sea breeze, her dad's laughter, and the promise of adventure lifted a weight off her shoulders. She was ready to reconnect, maybe find herself and free herself of all the burdens.

Alex and her dad were sailing through calm waters, the sun dipping into the horizon. They anchore near a small island, planning to spend the night. Mark was at the helm, Alex below deck, sorting gear. Suddenly, the boat lurched violently. Alex stumbled up, confused. "Dad?"

Mark's voice, tense, "Storm's coming! Get the sails down!"

Alex rushed to help, but the wind howled, whipping her hair. The boat heaved, waves crashing over the deck. Mark shouted, "Get to safety! I've got this!"

Alex ducked into the cabin, terrified. The boat capsized. Water rushed in. Alex was thrown into the sea, disoriented. She surfaced, gasping, but Mark was gone. She begins to get flashback of Mark's laughter on the deck, His words: "Trust the sea, Alex." The look in his eyes as he steered the boat into the storm

Alex's world narrowed to survival. She fought the currents, debris hitting her. The storm raged thunder booming. Then, blackness.

Alex woke to salty water in her lungs, coughing on a rocky shore. The storm had passed, leaving eerie calm. She stumbled ashore, disoriented, calling for her dad. Silence.

Luke, a local guide, had sheltered from the storm in his beach hut. At dawn, he ventured out, checking the damage. He spotted Alex's lifeless form near the shore. Rushing over, he found her breathing but unconscious.

Luke carried her to his hut, nursing her back. As she stirred, confusion and panic set in. He stayed, calming her, piecing together her story.

Days later, Alex's memories started returning. Luke's kindness became a lifeline. When she spotted her dad's watch on a shelf, reality hit – her dad was gone. Luke was staring at her from the door, he was emotional as he held her as she broke down.

Alex's days blurred in a haze of grief and confusion. Luke's presence was a steady anchor. He brought her food, listened to her tears, and taught her to breathe through the pain.

One sunny morning Luke decides to go out to the shore and find any items from the wrecked boat, he sailed the waters as he got amazed on how Alex could have survived the boat wreck. He picks his diving gear and goes underwater, while searching he finds Mark's Journal and Alex Mom's necklace, he takes them and sailed back to the shore.

Luke gets to his hut and discovered that Alex wasn't in, he imagined where she must have gone to, he drops Mark's Journal on the table, took his hunting gear and leaves the house.

Alex gets back from her outing, she realise Luke found her dad's journal in the wreckage. Alex read his words: "Trust Alex to live fully." She broke down, realizing he'd sacrificed himself to save her.

Luke comes back from hunting he stares at her, walked to the bed and sat beside her, they talked about Mark – his quirks, dreams, and love for the sea. Luke helped Alex see her dad's spirit in her own strength.

She started wandering the island, Luke by her side. They'd sit on cliffs, watching waves, and she'd feel her dad's presence.

Alex decided to face her dad's goodbye. She wrote a letter, buried it by the shore, and let the waves take it. Luke was there, silent, as she whispered, "I love you,

As Alex's heart opened, so did her feelings for Luke. They'd stolen glances, shared laughter. One evening, he took her hand, and she pulled away running off to the woods, Luke seems dumbfounded as he stares at her while she ran.

Later that evening Luke got home and met Alex sitting outside, she glanced at him and apologies for running off, Luke took her hands, he stares into her eyes and asked if she would go out to the shore with him, Alex obliged and they bet left. While on the shore watching the waves, Luke told Alex of how he lost his Brother, that moment felt emotional for both of them, she held his hands and kissed him.
