After detention, Liang Wei slowly walked home.
Every step hurt.
Near the entrance of Mei Ling's neighborhood, a familiar voice called out.
"Liang Wei?"
He turned.
Mei Ling stood there, looking worried.
"What happened to you?" she asked softly.
For a moment, Liang Wei almost told her everything.
The bullying.
The lies.
The beating.
But then he noticed Zhang Kai and his friends walking nearby.
Fear tightened his chest.
If Zhang Kai knew Liang Wei talked to her… he might target her too.
"I just fell down," Liang Wei said quickly.
Mei Ling frowned.
But Liang Wei had already walked away.
