Chapter 3 - Chapter 3 – The First Trial of the Dragon Bearer

Morning came slowly to the hidden Dragon Sanctuary.

High above the clouds, the sky glowed with soft shades of gold and blue as the three moons faded and the sun of Eternia began to rise. Light poured through cracks in the ancient mountain temple, illuminating the enormous stone statues of dragons that stood silently in the circular chamber.

Each statue looked different.

One had wings shaped like raging flames.

Another had scales carved like crystal.

One dragon statue looked as if lightning itself had been frozen in stone around its wings.

At the center of the chamber stood Kim Woo Bin, staring up at the towering figures with wide eyes.

Even after everything that had happened the night before, it still felt unreal.

Yesterday he had been a blacksmith's helper in a quiet village.

Today he stood inside a legendary sanctuary meant for Dragon Bearers.

Behind him, a deep rumbling voice broke the silence.

"You did not sleep much."

Woo Bin turned to see the massive silver dragon Astrael stepping into the chamber from a tunnel carved into the rock. His enormous wings brushed lightly against the stone walls as he moved.

Woo Bin rubbed the back of his neck.

"I tried to sleep," he admitted. "But I kept thinking about everything you told me."

Astrael lowered his head slightly.

"That is understandable."

Woo Bin looked down at the glowing dragon symbol on his palm. It pulsed faintly with blue light.

"I keep feeling this strange energy inside me," he said quietly. "Like something is waking up."

Astrael nodded.

"That is your connection to dragon magic."

Woo Bin blinked.

"Dragon magic?"

"Yes," Astrael said. "The Dragon Bearer does not simply command dragons. The crown binds your spirit to the ancient power that flows through every dragon in Eternia."

Woo Bin slowly clenched his fist.

"So that blast of energy yesterday…"

"That was your power reacting to danger."

Woo Bin let out a slow breath.

"So what happens now?"

Astrael's golden eyes sharpened.

"Now… your training begins."

Astrael led Woo Bin deeper into the sanctuary.

They passed through a long tunnel carved with glowing runes. The symbols shimmered with faint magical energy, lighting the path ahead.

"What are these markings?" Woo Bin asked.

"They were created by the first Dragon Bearer thousands of years ago," Astrael explained.

Woo Bin's eyes widened.

"The first Dragon Bearer built this place?"

"Yes."

They soon entered another chamber, even larger than the first.

This room was shaped like a giant arena.

Stone pillars surrounded the circular floor, each carved with dragons twisting through the air.

At the center of the arena stood a large stone platform covered in glowing symbols.

Astrael stopped beside it.

"This is the Trial Platform."

Woo Bin looked around nervously.

"Trial…?"

"Yes."

Astrael's voice grew serious.

"Every Dragon Bearer must pass three trials before they can awaken the dragons of Eternia."

Woo Bin swallowed.

"And if I fail?"

Astrael didn't hesitate.

"Then the Dragon Crown will reject you."

Woo Bin's stomach tightened.

"And someone else becomes the Dragon Bearer?"

Astrael shook his head slowly.

"No."

"The crown will remain lost."

Woo Bin understood immediately.

If that happened, the Dark King would eventually find it.

And no one would be strong enough to stop him.

Astrael stepped onto the edge of the arena.

"The first trial is the Trial of Connection."

Woo Bin tilted his head.

"What does that mean?"

"The Dragon Bearer must learn to feel the presence of dragons."

Woo Bin looked confused.

"But I already saw visions yesterday."

"Yes," Astrael said. "But those were uncontrolled. A Dragon Bearer must be able to sense dragons at will."

Astrael nodded toward the platform.

"Stand in the center."

Woo Bin stepped forward carefully and climbed onto the glowing stone circle.

As soon as his feet touched the surface, the symbols around him began glowing brighter.

Energy hummed through the air.

Woo Bin felt the mark on his palm grow warm.

"Now close your eyes," Astrael said.

Woo Bin obeyed.

"Focus on the mark," the dragon continued. "Let your mind become quiet."

Woo Bin tried to slow his breathing.

At first he heard nothing but silence.

Then… faint whispers.

Images began forming in his mind.

A dragon sleeping inside a mountain of fire.

Another curled inside a cavern filled with glowing crystals.

A massive storm dragon circling endlessly in a dark sky.

Woo Bin's eyes snapped open.

"I see them!"

Astrael smiled.

"Good."

"But this is only the beginning."

Suddenly Astrael's expression changed.

His wings tensed.

"Something approaches."

Woo Bin turned quickly.

"What?"

A loud explosion echoed from outside the sanctuary.

The mountain trembled.

Dust fell from the ceiling.

Another blast shook the stone walls.

Woo Bin's eyes widened.

"Was that an earthquake?"

Astrael's voice turned cold.

"No."

The dragon moved toward the tunnel entrance.

"They found us."

Woo Bin followed quickly.

"Who did?"

But he already knew the answer.

Outside the sanctuary entrance, the sky had turned dark.

A massive black airship floated above the mountain.

Dozens of flying creatures circled around it.

Shadow Drakes.

Woo Bin felt fear twist in his stomach.

"There are so many…"

Astrael growled.

"The Shadow Legion."

Figures in black armor began descending from the airship.

Each soldier carried weapons glowing with dark magic.

One of them stepped forward.

He wore heavier armor than the others and carried a massive dark spear.

"So…" the commander said.

"The Dragon Bearer is only a child."

Woo Bin clenched his fists.

"I'm not afraid of you."

The commander laughed.

"You should be."

He pointed his spear.

"Capture him."

The soldiers charged.

Woo Bin raised his hands.

The dragon mark suddenly flared bright blue.

Energy rushed through his body.

He pushed his hand forward.

A powerful blast of dragon energy exploded outward, throwing several soldiers across the ground.

Woo Bin stared at his hand in shock.

"I… I did that again."

But more soldiers kept coming.

Astrael roared and released a wave of silver fire, scattering enemies across the battlefield.

Still, the commander walked forward calmly.

He raised his spear.

Dark energy gathered around it.

"This ends now."

Woo Bin felt something awaken inside him.

The dragon mark burned brighter than ever.

Power surged through his entire body.

He lifted both hands.

A massive burst of blue dragon energy erupted outward like a storm.

The ground cracked beneath his feet.

The Shadow Legion soldiers were blasted away.

Even the commander staggered backward.

When the light faded, the enemies quickly retreated toward the airship.

"This is not over, Dragon Bearer!" the commander shouted before disappearing into the clouds.

Silence returned to the mountain.

Woo Bin dropped to one knee, breathing heavily.

"I… I can't control this power."

Astrael lowered his head beside him.

"That is why you must train."

Woo Bin looked up at the sky where the enemies had vanished.

"They will come back."

"Yes," Astrael said.

"And next time… they will bring something far worse."

Woo Bin slowly stood up.

His quiet life was truly over.

And the war for the Dragon Crown had officially begun.
