Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Change - part 2

Both Noir and Nora are seen in the foggy abandoned city carrying the robot. Eventually after a long walk the two arrive at the same door they entered the surface from. From the right of the door there seemed to be a terminal of some kind. Noir pressing on it speaks to it.

"Exiting layer no. 1 name… C-1418."

"C-1418." The terminal says in a woman-like artificial voice before pausing analyzing the data. "Authorization granted you may enter." With that Noir opens the door and the two along with their baggage enters the place. Inside they see a long underground tunnel. Nothing new to them.. Then up some stairs they are led to a elevator. Going into the elevator there are only two buttons, one for going down and, another for going up. Noir picks down. A slightly long wait the two had to go through. Yet soon they arrived at an area. A familiar sight, the chopped torn wires tunnel which they were before… Setting the machine on the floor the two pounders with one another as they look at the scarp of metal.

"Ani… this might be new for me to say but… what is this thing?" says Nora as she slowly takes off her mask.

"It's fine that you don't know… our city used to have them but most of them were destroyed tagging along with other searches."

"So what is it?"

"it's a Sentinel… probably a surviving one?"

"A Sentinel? This is a Sentinel?"

"Yeah… but I didn't know they could do that."

"Are you talking about when it repaired itself?"

"Yeah, that's what I'm talking about… I'm sure if a Sentinel was capable of doing something like that I would have heard of it."

"Maybe it's not from here?"

"You saying it may be from further up? Maybe… but now it begs the question, how many layers did it descend?" Noir pauses.

"Well it's fried now, and unfortunately we can't even sell the thing."

"We can't?"

"There's a law forcing things like Sentinels not to be sold since most of the time it's property of the Director, I mean there is some ways you can get around this bu-"

As Noir was ranting on Nora out of nowhere pulls out a tool kit and started tinkering with the Sentinels head.

"Uhhh sis what are you doing?" Asked Noir looking at his focused yet adorable little sister in confusion

.

"Ani, I think I can fix it."

"Sis I don't know what your trying to do but, last time you messed with a robot we found in the unknown it almost exploded, trust me little sis you are impressive when it comes to making things… but not so much as fixing them."

"This one's different!!!" She said in a confident, yet defensive tone.

Noir seeing this sudden shift of demeanor awkwardly coughs and says.

"Alright let's hear it."

Nora smiles.

"That shock that came from its head… It has to be something neurological, If it's only that then..."

Noir Sighs.

"Damn… if we do this we'll get in actual deep shit with the Director."

Noirs comment saddens Nora who looks down disappointed. Seeing this he grips his face and looks at her even more awkwardly than before.

"Sis… do you really think you can fix this thing?"

"I'm sure of it." She says looking at him with confidence.

Alright, to hell with the Director, if this is something you really want to fix, then I won't stop you."

"Thank you Ani." She says letting another smile, this one brighter than the last.

"Although you of course can't fix it here… I think it should be lights out now so I say we sneak it in like we usually do."

"How do we do that… it's much larger then what we usually carry."

"True, that's why we will… do the same thing we did to bring it here, and hope we don't get caught, anyways you get the legs I'll get the arms."

Noir grabbing the Sentinels arms pushing it over its back and Nora struggling pulling up its legs, the two make it out of the area they were just in bringing them back to the city. Although this time it's dark with the only variable of light coming from these tall street lamps. It seemed to be not as livid as before. This time it seemed empty with nobody in sight… Yet there were people in sight. Men in a battle suit like white armor patrolling the area with flashlights. Noir and Nora, carrying the machine, walk past the men. One by one navigating the city swiftly yet also precisely, their movements are still as if they have done this many times to understand the guards' patterns. Soon enough it didn't take long until they arrived at a certain part of the city and a certain building. It was a little more dirty and run down then the rest yet Nora and Noir entered. Entering the building it's not so different from the outside. It held a stench of smoke and onions not pleasant for most yet unnoticed by the two. Its walls also seemed almost wrecked, the flooring cracking and the stairs going to about five different floors barely hanging up, with some either being almost destroyed, or others not even built yet. Despite the age of the building. Noir and Nora takes the stairs and walk carefully trying not to drop the Sentinel. Eventually they reached the second floor where it had four different doors presumed to lead into different homes. The two took the last door with Noir reaching into his pocket grabbing a key. Inserting the key and opening the door. We are greeted with a place which some could say is… well it's livable for a human. Trash all around the floor, the smell of bad product and even a metal junk in a pile thrown into a corner giving the home a metallic scent as well. The two look at the living space then look at each other.

"Home sweet home I guess?" Says Noir as he sniffs the area. "Hey sis did we ever take out those veggies we bought months ago?"

"Is that, the smell? I thought a critter died in the walls."

"Well whatever, I'm getting sick of carrying this thing, let's bring it to your room."

Passing the junk and ignoring the smell the two walk to the back of the home which leads to a small hallway with two different rooms. Entering the first room its interior gave off a different sense of feel. The many electronics and many monitors across a wall connected to a single computer with tangled wires across the floor. The room had a bed and a chair which could be seen as the only non-electronic devices in the room. The two place the machine down on the chair adjusting it so it stands up properly. Once adjusted Noir lets out a sigh of relief.

"That was a lot of work, holy… I truly hope you do end up fixing this thing though, I don't want my hard work and future back pain to be in vain."

"I already told you, I can fix it… Hopefully."

"Well that's not reassuring… If you can't fix it then it's best if we dismantle it until it's unrecognizable, then throw it out."

Nora after hearing her brothers words of dismantling her project, looks away slightly angry. Noir seeing this brings his hand close to his sisters head patting it.

"Heh, don't worry that won't happen anyways, because if there's anyone with a single brain cell in figuring out mechanisms and junk… it's you sis.

Then suddenly without a word of warning Noir lets his hand away from Nora's head and walks away from her opening the room's door as he does.

"We're are you going Ani?" She says.

"To bed, I do in fact have work tomorrow."

"O-ok…Night Ani."

"Night sis."

Then Noir leaves the room exiting and closing the door behind him.

Nora now alone in the room, looks at the Sentinel.

"I wonder… can I actually fix this thing?"
