Chapter 6 - 6

Chapter 6

Exams were only a few days away.

Which meant the entire class had entered a state of panic.

Notebooks were open everywhere, people were revising loudly, and even the usually carefree students were trying to study at least a little.

Meera, however, was struggling.

She stared at her textbook, reading the same paragraph for the third time.

Nothing was going inside her brain.

She dropped her head onto the desk dramatically.

"Oh my God," she groaned. "Exams are in like three days and I have tried everything, but nothing is staying in my head."

Across from her, Anya laughed.

"You say that every time."

"Because it's true every time," Meera complained.

She was about to say something else when Anya suddenly nudged her.

"Oh look," Anya said quietly.

Meera looked up lazily. "What?"

Anya pointed toward the front of the classroom.

"Hirsh."

Meera frowned.

"Why should I look at Hirsh?"

Anya smirked slightly.

"Well… that's his ex-girlfriend."

Meera followed her gaze.

Standing near the doorway was Suhani.

Meera recognized her immediately.

Suhani had once been Hirsh's girlfriend.

"Wait," Meera said. "Didn't they break up months ago?"

"Yeah," Anya replied. "Because Suhani is incredibly clingy."

Meera raised an eyebrow.

"Oh my God," Anya continued dramatically, "God forbid anyone has to become her boyfriend. She was constantly after him."

"Seriously?"

"Seriously," Anya said. "After they broke up, she kept insisting that Hirsh should start dating her again."

Meera leaned forward slightly, now curious.

"And?"

"And then she had this huge meltdown," Anya said. "Crying, emotional speeches, the whole thing."

Meera winced.

"That sounds intense."

"Exactly," Anya said. "She is still kind of obsessed with him."

Meera looked back toward Hirsh for a moment.

He was sitting at his desk, talking casually with Rudra and JK like nothing in the world bothered him.

Meera snorted quietly.

"Why would anyone even want to date Hirsh?"

Anya looked at her.

"Just because you don't like him doesn't mean other people don't."

Meera crossed her arms.

"I still think he's cold-hearted."

Anya shrugged.

"Well, he is also attractive to a lot of girls, Meera. You can't judge everything from your personal opinion."

Meera sighed.

"Poor Suhani."

But just then something strange happened.

Suhani walked into the classroom.

And instead of sitting somewhere else…

She sat right behind Hirsh.

Which also meant she was sitting next to Meera's row.

Meera glanced back for a second.

That was when she noticed it.

Suhani was glaring at her.

Not at Hirsh.

At her.

Meera blinked in confusion.

What did I do?

Suhani's expression looked sharp and annoyed, like she had already decided she didn't like Meera.

Meera quickly looked back down at her books.

For a moment she thought about what Anya had said.

Maybe Hirsh had been right to break up with her.

Meera shook the thought away and focused on her notes again.

But even while pretending to study…

She could still feel Suhani's glare from behind.
