Chapter 2 - 1

1

The match was supposed to be a friendly "lunch break" exhibition in the Domino High courtyard. Yugi wanted to see Jake's "shifting deck" in person, and a crowd had gathered, including a disgruntled Seto Kaiba who just happened to be passing by in his limousine and couldn't resist mocking the "amateur hour."

But ten turns in, the air has turned cold. The "Akashic Deck Box" didn't just give Jake a theme—it gave him a Seinen Tragedy.

The Duel State

Yugi Muto: 1200 LP

Field:Dark Magician (ATK 2500) and one face-down.

Jake Callison: 400 LP

Field: Empty.

Hand: 1 Card.

The Turn: The Horror of the Unknown

"It's over, Jake!" Joey shouts from the sidelines. "Yugi's got the Ultimate Wizard on the field! There's no anime hero big enough to take that down!"

Kaiba sneers from the edge of the crowd, his arms crossed. "The buffoon has no monsters, no backrow, and a single card. The statistical probability of him winning is zero. This isn't a duel; it's a waste of my satellite's bandwidth."

Jake looks at his hand. He shudders. The card isn't bright and colorful like One Piece or Dragon Ball. It's a washed-out, grainy grey.

Archetype Selected:Berserk (The Eclipse).

"I... I draw," Jake whispers. He looks at the card. It's a small, red, egg-shaped pendant with human features. The Crimson Behit. "I activate the Spell: Despair of the Branded. Since my LP is lower than 500, I can Special Summon one 'Apostle' monster from my deck by Tributing the entire crowd's 'hope'—uh, I mean, by Tributing my own Graveyard."

Suddenly, the holographic sky over Domino High turns a sickly, bruised purple. An eclipse blocks out the sun.

"What is this?" Yugi gasps, feeling a genuine chill. "The Heart of the Cards... it feels heavy. Dark."

"I summon... Nosferatu Zodd - Apostle Form (ATK 3000 / DARK / Fiend)."

A massive, horned beast with wings and fur explodes onto the field. The hologram is so vivid that students scream and dive for cover. Even Kaiba's eyes widen. "What... what is that rendering? My projectors shouldn't be capable of simulating... blood."

The Nail-Biter

"Zodd, attack Dark Magician!" Jake commands.

"I activate my trap!" Yugi counters. "Magicians' Combination! I switch my Dark Magician with the Dark Magician Girl in my graveyard to negate your attack!"

The swap happens, but Zodd doesn't stop. The beast cleaves through the hologram of Dark Magician Girl with a brutal, visceral swing of its sword.

"Wait!" Yugi cries out as his Life Points drop to 700. "My monster was negated! Why did the attack go through?"

Jake reads the card, his hand shaking. "Zodd's ability... 'The Absolute'. He cannot be stopped by Spell or Trap effects once an attack is declared. He... he doesn't care about the rules of the game. He only cares about the fight."

The Final Exchange

Yugi's eyes sharpen. The Millennium Puzzle glows. Yami Yugi takes the reins. "A formidable opponent, Jake. But even a demon can be trapped! I draw! I activate Spellbinding Circle!"

"It won't work!" Jake shouts. "I activate the Quick-Play Spell: Struggle Against Fate! I Tribute Zodd to Special Summon a monster from my hand that shouldn't exist!"

Jake slams his final card down. The air screams.

"Appear! The Black Swordsman - Guts (ATK 2800)!"

A man in pitch-black armor, missing an eye and an arm, appears. He isn't a "hero" in the way Yugi is used to. He looks exhausted, scarred, and furious.

"Wait," Kaiba mutters, stepping closer to the fence, his jaw dropped. "The ATK is lower than Zodd's. Why would he Tribute a stronger monster? He's lost!"

"Guts has a special effect," Jake explains, his voice projecting over the eerie silence of the schoolyard. "Dragonslayer. When he battles a Spellcaster or Dragon, he gains ATK equal to the difference between our Life Points! And since I'm at 400 and you're at 700..."

2800+(700−400)=3100

"Guts! Swing that slab of iron! Vengeful Strike!"

The massive sword crashes down. Yugi's Dark Magician raises his staff to block, but the "Dragonslayer" slices right through the magic, the staff, and the Magician himself.

Yugi's LP: 0

The Aftermath

The eclipse fades. The sun returns to Domino High. The students are dead silent. Some are crying.

Yugi stands there, blinking, for the first time in a long time, looking genuinely rattled. "Jake... that deck. It didn't feel like a game. It felt like... survival."

Kaiba is frantically typing into a wrist-mounted computer. "Impossible. That card code... it doesn't exist in the international registry. It's not even Konami-standard. Callison! Where did you get that 'Black Swordsman' card?!"

Jake frantically stuffs the cards back into his Deck Box as they turn back into blank, white squares. "Uh... limited edition? From a cereal box? Gotta go to math class, bye!"

Jake sprints away, leaving the King of Games and the CEO of KaibaCorp staring at the spot where a one-armed man had just defied the laws of Duel Monsters.
