Chapter 7 – The Dragon's Shadow

The wind howled louder than usual that night.

A storm was coming.

Dark clouds rolled across the sky above Dragonstone, swallowing the stars one by one. The sea below crashed violently against the cliffs, sending sprays of salt into the air.

Aeryn Targaryen stood alone on one of the highest towers.

Silent.

Watching.

Waiting.

Something felt… different.

For days now, he had felt it.

A strange pull.

Like something was calling him.

Not a voice.

Not a sound.

Something deeper.

Instinct.

The same instinct that once guided Edward Kenway through storms and battles.

But this felt older.

Heavier.

More dangerous.

Aeryn narrowed his eyes toward the distant Dragonmont.

Lightning flashed.

And for a brief moment—

He saw it.

A massive shadow moving along the mountain.

Far larger than any dragon he had seen before.

His breath slowed.

That's… not normal.

Most dragons stayed within known territories.

This one moved like a predator.

Like it was searching.

And somehow…

Aeryn felt certain.

It's watching me.

The System Awakens

Suddenly—

Pain.

Sharp.

Blinding.

Aeryn dropped to one knee, clutching his head.

"What—?!"

His vision flickered.

The world around him blurred.

The storm… the tower… the sea…

Everything distorted.

Then—

Darkness.

And within that darkness…

Light.

Lines.

Symbols.

A voice.

Cold.

Calm.

Familiar.

[SYNCHRONIZATION INITIALIZING…]

Aeryn froze.

"What…?"

The voice continued.

[GENETIC MEMORY STABLE]

[HOST ID CONFIRMED: EDWARD KENWAY]

[CURRENT ID: AERYN TARGARYEN]

His heart pounded.

"No way…"

The darkness shifted.

A faint interface appeared in his vision.

Not in front of him.

Not outside.

Inside.

Like it was part of his mind.

Breathing slowly.

"…it's real."

Not madness.

Not imagination.

It was structured.

Precise.

Like something built into his very existence.

A continuation of Edward Kenway.

A system.

A tool.

An advantage.

A slow smile formed on his face.

"Now this…"

He stood up slowly.

"…this changes everything."

The interface shifted.

New text appeared.

Aeryn looked toward the distant volcanic mountain.

Lightning flashed again.

The massive shadow moved once more.

The same dragon.

Watching.

Waiting.

The system pulsed faintly.

As if reacting to the creature.

Then another notification appeared.

[WARNING]

UNKNOWN ENTITY DETECTED

Classification: DRAGON (ANOMALY)

Aeryn exhaled slowly.

"Of course it is…"

The Rogue Prince Returns

"You look like you've seen a ghost."

Aeryn didn't even turn.

"I thought you preferred dramatic entrances."

Behind him, leaning casually against the stone archway, stood

Daemon Targaryen.

His eyes studied Aeryn carefully.

"You vanished from the castle again," Daemon said. "The guards are starting to think the ghost has grown wings."

Aeryn smirked slightly.

"Not yet."

Daemon stepped closer.

"You're different tonight."

Aeryn raised an eyebrow.

"Am I?"

"Yes."

Daemon's gaze sharpened.

"More focused."

That wasn't wrong.

The system had changed something.

Everything felt clearer.

Sharper.

More controlled.

Like his instincts had been refined.

Daemon crossed his arms.

"Good."

Then he nodded toward the training yard below.

"Come."

A Real Lesson

Moments later, they stood alone in a quiet part of the courtyard.

No guards.

No witnesses.

Just the two of them.

Daemon drew a wooden practice sword and tossed another toward Aeryn.

"Let's see what you can do when I'm not holding back."

Aeryn caught it.

His grip adjusted instantly.

Familiar.

Natural.

Daemon smiled.

"Ready?"

Aeryn nodded.

The attack came instantly.

Fast.

Far faster than the knight before.

Aeryn barely dodged.

The strike cut through the air where his head had been.

Fast.

He moved.

Stepped.

Turned.

But Daemon was relentless.

Every attack was precise.

Calculated.

Aeryn blocked one strike—barely—and stumbled back.

Pain shot through his arms.

Too strong.

The system flickered faintly in his vision.

His focus sharpened.

Time seemed to slow.

Not literally.

But his perception improved.

He could see patterns.

Movement.

Intent.

There.

Daemon attacked again.

Aeryn sidestepped earlier this time.

Better timing.

Better positioning.

Daemon smiled wider.

"Good."

The fight continued.

Faster.

Sharper.

More intense.

Aeryn adapted with every movement.

Every strike.

Every near miss.

And for the first time since his rebirth—

He felt challenged.

Truly challenged.

When it ended, Aeryn stood breathing heavily.

Daemon lowered his sword.

"…impressive."

Aeryn smirked slightly.

"Still lost."

"For now."

Daemon stepped closer.

"But you learn fast."

His eyes gleamed.

"Very fast."

The Dragon Watches

Later that night, Aeryn stood once more on the tower.

The storm had reached its peak.

Lightning tore across the sky.

Thunder shook the island.

And in the distance—

The dragon returned.

Closer this time.

Much closer.

Its massive wings cut through the storm clouds.

Black scales.

Burning eyes.

Ancient power.

It circled the Dragonmont slowly.

Then—

It turned.

Directly toward him.

Aeryn didn't move.

Didn't look away.

The system pulsed again.

[DRAGON LINK DETECTED]

Bond Status: UNKNOWN

Compatibility: ???%

The dragon let out a roar.

Not of anger.

Not of warning.

Something else.

Recognition.

Aeryn felt it in his chest.

Deep.

Primal.

Fire answering fire.

He smiled slowly.

"Yeah…"

The wind howled around him.

Lightning lit the sky.

"And I see you too."
