Location: Sea of Origin

Yang Yi took a deep breath and checked his status.

Sanity: 100 / 100Energy: 90 / 100

Using the log's simple crafting function, he also made a crude spear out of some lumber, just in case.

At the same time, he tucked the flintlock pistol behind his waist.

If he hooked some huge creature later, he might have to subdue it by force.

As for bait, Yang Yi had already confirmed through the log that fishing here didn't require bait.

However, using bait could improve fishing efficiency.

Preparations were complete.

Now…

Time to fish.

Yang Yi cast the rod. The hook drew a smooth arc through the air before splashing into the sea.

He wasn't particularly skilled at fishing.

But now…

he had all the time in the world to learn.

Fifteen minutes passed.

The float didn't move at all.

Yang Yi opened the world chat channel to see what the other anglers had caught, hoping to prepare himself mentally.

"You know how I know I hooked something? 100 cm!"

The message came with a photo of a huge sea bass.

"Who the hell asked you?!"

"I caught a monster too!"

"How big?"

"Massive. Didn't manage to pull it up."

"Then why the hell mention it!"

Yang Yi scrolled further up and finally saw an interesting message.

"Be careful when fishing. If you hook something strange, cut the line immediately."

"There's no penalty. As long as you don't lose the rod, the fishing line regenerates infinitely."

"What did you hook then?"

"Looked like a human silhouette. I cut the line right away."

"Probably a mermaid. You just released your future wife!"

"That thing definitely wasn't right. Just look at my fishing rod."

Name: Carbon Fiber Precision Fishing RodType: TreasureQuality: Excellent

Description:An excellent fishing rod that you could pass down to your grandson.

Increases fishing success rate, reduces stamina consumption when fishing, and slightly increases the chance of catching unknown objects.

Treasure: Using treasures usually does not carry the risk of losing sanity.

"Nice item! Why is my fishing rod just a plain common one?!"

"You should be grateful! I'm a veteran angler and I don't even have a rod. Still using the grappling hook. A simple fishing rod requires 10 lumber to craft!"

"You're jealous too early. Take a look at my ship."

[Fisher — Level 1 | Durability: 345/400 | Capacity: 500 units | Speed: 25 knots]

Ship Skill: None

Description:It's not very sturdy and has no skills, but it will make you look more like a fisherman.

When people saw the 25-knot speed, half the jealous comments disappeared instantly.

"Why is your ship's durability already damaged?"

"I just pulled up a three-meter great white shark. Nearly got eaten…"

"From now on, anything big—I just cut the line. Otherwise, once it gets on the boat, who eats who is hard to say!"

Yang Yi continued scrolling.

He realized fishing here didn't only yield fish.

People had caught all sorts of things, including treasure chests and fresh water.

"I caught a treasure chest!"

"A treasure chest? What's inside?"

"Secret."

"You guys can all catch fish, but I haven't even seen a fish shadow yet!"

"I've only caught socks, Farmer's Spring water, and even balloons."

"Farmer's Spring…?"

"That balloon… is it clean? It's not used, right?"

From the chat records, it was clear:

Fishing here could pull up all kinds of unbelievable things.

Even monsters.

Yang Yi had already prepared himself mentally.

If whatever surfaced looked wrong, he would cut the line immediately.

A few minutes later, the float suddenly trembled.

Something was nibbling at the hook.

Yang Yi held his breath.

He had a spear.

He had a pistol.

As long as it was a fish, it shouldn't be too dangerous…

The float sank.

Now!

Yang Yi jerked the rod upward, staring at the blue ocean surface.

He didn't see any massive shadow.

With a simple pull, the thing came out of the water without any resistance.

What landed on the deck was a fish about the thickness of a thumb.

But…

it wasn't exactly a fish.

It was about three centimeters long, streamlined like a sardine.

However—

The fish had four long legs, each about five centimeters in length.

It stood upright on all fours on the deck.

Yang Yi froze.

The fish stared back at him.

"…This is a fish?"

Yang Yi was stunned.

[You discovered a strange fish. Sanity -2.]

The next second, the fish skillfully used its long legs to run toward the sea—

But Yang Yi smashed it down with his spear.

Name: Long-Legged SardineType: Food

Description:A fish species from the Abyss.

Legend says that eating it frequently may give you long legs.

Edible, non-toxic, and delicious.

However, eating it requires courage and may reduce sanity.

Yang Yi picked up the fish.

It probably weighed less than 100 grams.

Its four pale legs were broken now, but their structure was exactly like human legs, with a strangely bouncy texture.

"…You can eat this?"

Then Yang Yi remembered the ship's skill:

Fisherman's Curse — cannot catch normal fish.

He took a photo of the fish using the log and posted it in the world chat.

"Has anyone here ever caught a fish like this?"

The result was explosive.

"Holy sh*t! What is that thing?! Mental pollution! Sanity -8!"

"You call that a fish?!"

"Why did you hurt my eyes?! Sanity -10!"

"Blocked!"

"Blocked!"

"Never seeing this again in my life!"

Within seconds, over a billion people blocked Yang Yi.

Many of them had suffered sanity loss just from seeing the picture.

But suddenly someone sent him a private message.

"Is the seawater in your area black? If so, you'd better leave quickly. Otherwise you might get attacked by unknown creatures."

Yang Yi glanced at the clear blue ocean beneath his ship.

He felt a little speechless.

"…No. My ship is a ghost ship."

"Whoa, that's impressive! Want to add friends?"

Captain Xu Da of the Gale sent a friend request.

Yang Yi accepted.

After all, adding a friend cost nothing.

"You really shouldn't post pictures like that again. My sanity is only 54 now. If it drops further, I'll go insane."

"Got it."

Yang Yi realized the seriousness of the situation.

But for food and fresh water, he had to keep fishing.

[You caught a Long-Legged Sardine.]

[You caught a Long-Legged Sardine.]

[You caught a One-Legged Long-Legged Sardine.]

"SH*T!"

[Your Sanity -1]

Yang Yi felt the system was doing this on purpose.

Giving him such an abnormal ship.

If it were an ordinary person, they would probably go insane within a day of fishing.

After fishing for three hours, he had caught eight long-legged sardines, some missing a leg.

But as for fresh water…

He hadn't seen even a drop.

Where was the promised Farmer's Spring water?

Without food, a person could survive more than a week.

But without water, people would die within three to five days.

Unless…

They drank their own urine.

Unless absolutely necessary, Yang Yi didn't want to reach that point.

Finally, he gritted his teeth.

He grabbed one of the long-legged sardines and used it as bait—

Then cast the line once again.
