"God is in the details."
So said Ludwig Mies van der Rohe once.
But today, we confidently repeat: "The devil is in the details."
Somewhere between these two metaphors, the shift occurred.
The intention took a complete turn, without knowing when or how.
This is a novel about that turn.
About the detail that no one notices, but it changes everything.

Have you ever heard of the perfect crime?
Well, there are two things that arouse our curiosity wildly and without exception: the first is anything that is "rare." A given.
The second is the thing that is "rarer." Also a given.
Let me explain.
The perfect crime isn't as simple as its name suggests. It is a rare occurrence, and what makes it rare are the conditions required for its realization. Conditions so precise and rigorous that there is no margin for error. It only happens at the right moment, in the right place, and with the right amount. If the proportions are off, everything fails.
After all these exhausting calculations, you'll find that the general public knows only that it's the crime that didn't ruin their dinner by flashing a criminal's ugly face on the 8 PM news.
A crime with unclear components, therefore not worth discussing in cafés, nor summarized in an intriguing sentence on social media.
They say: "So-and-so is dead," and no one knows why, or who did it, or how.
Then they breathe a sigh of relief.
Just like that, in the simplest of ways, the perfect crime in their minds turns into an incomplete death… and that's enough.
But, for your good luck and the blind fate that has struck you this time — if fate has any taste in such matters — I was once a victim of this type of crime. But, as you can see, I've drained every drop of my luck to stay alive and tell you everything that happened.
And this is the "rarer" thing.
Now I can give you something you won't find anywhere else. Initially, I'll summarize this complex process into four stages. I'll give them to you, accompanied by four scenes, so you can get a practical view of what happens. No underestimating your intelligence, but I know that you won't understand it unless you're the victim. But by then, you'll understand everything, though it will be far too late!
Don't worry, the stages will be short and quick, like a gunshot, but enough to put you on the right track. Hold onto it tightly, because once that happens, the story begins. And with it, the maze. Those stages will be your only light, so don't turn it off!
