Footsteps came sprinting down the hall. Kai rounded the corner with his heavy broadsword drawn, followed closely by Pearl and Des. Pearl had two swirling ribbons of pressurized water spinning around her forearms, and Des had both hands glowing with amber earth magic.
"What is happening?!" Pearl demanded, looking around at the pulsing amber walls. "Did Des break another wall?!"
"I didn't touch anything!" Des yelled defensively. "I was eating an apple!"
Terra and Orisyl came rushing out from the inner garden. Terra's skin was crackling with raw green sparks, and her face was pale with sudden dread. She dropped to one knee and slammed both open palms against the floor, closing her eyes as she sank her senses deep into the mountain bedrock.
"Terra, what is it?" Orisyl asked, stepping up beside her sister with golden light flaring around her shoulders. "Is it the siphon spike?"
Terra opened her eyes, and the fury in them was terrifying.
