Prologue

"Okay, honey, today we're going over the history of Eryndor." I didn't usually pay close attention to these lessons, but this one may be useful.

"First is our kingdom, which is Solara, and may I say, I believe is the best!" She was very patriotic. "This is the kingdom of humans; our capital is Aurion...." Ugh, is this going to all be about Solara? I live here, and I know all the basics.

"The Veylir Dominion is where the Elves and Spirit Folk live." Did she say Elves? I've never seen an elf before. Is this just another folktale?

"The Kharadun Empire is home to dwarves and...." DWARVES!!! She can't be serious. I know I'm a child, but does she actually expect me to believe this?

"The Zephryian Steppes is where all beastfolk live, this pla-" Okay, now she's really messing around. "Mom, are you playing another one of your jokes on me?" I said playfully. "No, honey, this is your lesson time; there's no time for jokes. Now pay attention, this is important," my mother said to me sternly.

I knew this new world had some tricks up its sleeve, but to think all these fantasy races actually lived here. This gives a whole new perspective on this world, new prospects of what I can achieve. Were all these races at peace with each other? Were they at war? "Damn!" I scoffed at myself under my breath. I should have just listened to her more.

"Now, for the most important area." Okay, I need to focus and hear this part. "The Obsidian Expanse is an incredibly dangerous place." Obsidian Expanse... "Once home to an ancient empire that collapsed when the Ley Veins destabilized. Now, it is overrun by mana beasts." Finally, something interesting. "It is filled with enormous amounts of raw mana, and some even say treasures. The Obsidian Expanse is strictly off limits until you are old enough to register as an adventurer, you hear me?" I was only seven years old, so I think that makes sense. "Yes, mother." I replied somberly. "Oh, who am I kidding? You're my little prodigy, I'm sure you'll do great things there when the time comes."
