Chapter 2 - The Truth of Blood

The storm did not leave Zeus after that

night.

It lingered.

Not always in the sky—but within him.

Days passed, yet the air around him seemed heavier, charged with something unseen. The nymphs watched him more carefully now, whispering among themselves when they thought he could not hear.

But Zeus heard everything.

He felt everything.

And most of all… he felt the truth drawing closer.

One evening, as the sun dipped beneath the horizon and painted the sky in deep crimson, Zeus wandered farther than he ever had before. The forest grew darker, quieter, as if even nature hesitated to follow.

Then he saw her.

She stood beneath an ancient tree, still as stone, her presence both calm and overwhelming. Her eyes held a depth that seemed older than the mountains themselves.

"Zeus," she said softly.

He stopped.

"You know my name."

"I have always known your name."

There was no fear in her voice. Only certainty.

"Who are you?" he asked.

She stepped forward, and the air seemed to shift with her movement.

"I am Metis," she replied. "One who remembers what others wish to forget."

Zeus frowned. "Why are you here?"

Metis studied him carefully, as though measuring something unseen.

"Because the time for hiding is over."

The wind stirred.

Zeus felt it again—that pull, that rising pressure in his chest.

"You keep saying things like that," he said, his voice tightening. "Everyone does. But no one tells me why."

Metis did not answer immediately.

Instead, she raised her hand—and the world around them seemed to dim, as though reality itself were bending.

"You feel the storms, don't you?" she asked.

Zeus hesitated… then nodded.

"They answer you," she continued. "Because they belong to you."

A low rumble echoed in the distance.

Zeus's jaw tightened. "That's impossible."

"No," Metis said gently. "What is impossible… is the lie you have been living."

Her words struck deeper than any thunder.

Zeus stepped back. "What lie?"

Metis's gaze did not waver.

"The lie that you are just a child of this island."

Silence fell between them.

The forest seemed to hold its breath.

Zeus's heart began to pound.

"Then what am I?" he demanded.

Metis took one final step forward.

"You are the son of Cronus."

The world shattered.

The ground did not crack. The sky did not fall.

But inside Zeus… everything broke.

"No," he said immediately, shaking his head. "That's not true."

"It is."

"He's a monster," Zeus snapped. "A devourer of his own children."

"Yes."

The single word hit harder than anything else.

Zeus's hands trembled. The air around him began to stir violently.

"Then why would I be his son?" he shouted.

Lightning flickered overhead.

Metis did not flinch.

"Because you are the one he feared most."

The storm exploded.

Thunder roared across the sky as Zeus's emotions surged beyond control. Wind tore through the trees, bending branches and scattering leaves in every direction.

"I don't understand!" he cried.

Metis raised her voice just enough to cut through the chaos.

"Your father was given a prophecy," she said. "That one of his children would overthrow him."

Zeus froze.

The thunder softened—but did not fade.

"So he destroyed them," Metis continued. "One by one. Swallowed them whole to prevent his fate."

Zeus's breath became shallow.

"My… siblings?" he whispered.

"They live," Metis said. "Trapped within him."

The words felt unreal.

Impossible.

And yet… something deep inside him knew they were true.

Zeus looked up at the sky, his chest rising and falling heavily.

"All this time…" he said slowly, "I've been hiding from him."

"Yes."

"Running from something I didn't even understand."

Metis stepped closer.

"You were not running," she said. "You were surviving."

Zeus clenched his fists.

The fear was still there—but now it had changed.

It was no longer fear of the unknown.

It was anger.

"So what now?" he asked, his voice low and dangerous.

Metis's eyes sharpened slightly.

"Now you choose."

"Choose what?"

"Whether you remain hidden…" she said, "…or become what you were born to be."

The storm above grew darker.

Zeus's heart pounded like thunder.

"If I face him…" he said, "I could die."

"Yes."

"If I do nothing… my brothers and sisters remain trapped."

"Yes."

Zeus closed his eyes.

For a moment, the world disappeared.

There was only the sound of his own breath… and the distant echo of something greater calling to him.

When he opened his eyes again… they had changed.

The hesitation was gone.

In its place was something unbreakable.

Resolve.

"I won't hide," Zeus said.

The storm answered immediately, lightning flashing across the sky in brilliant arcs.

"I won't run."

The wind rose.

"I will face him."

Thunder crashed like a declaration.

Metis watched him carefully… and for the first time, a faint smile touched her lips.

"The heavens have been waiting for those words," she said.

Zeus turned toward her.

"Tell me what I must do."

Metis nodded.

"There is a way to free your siblings," she said. "But it will require more than strength."

Zeus stepped forward.

"I don't care what it takes."

Her eyes gleamed with quiet intensity.

"You must walk into the heart of your enemy's kingdom," she said.

"You must stand before Cronus himself…"

She paused.

"…and make him fall."

The storm above reached its peak.

Lightning split the sky, illuminating Zeus as he stood tall against the wind.

He was no longer just a hidden child.

No longer just a boy with unanswered questions.

He was something more now.

Something dangerous.

Something inevitable.

Far across the world, in his dark and towering palace…

Cronus rose slowly from his throne.

The air around him trembled.

He could feel it.

The shift.

The awakening.

The beginning of the end.

Back on the island, Zeus looked toward the distant horizon, his eyes burning with quiet fire.

"Then it begins," he said.

And the storm agreed.
