Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: For “Elements,” the Goal Is Not Control, but Coexistence

The next day, after breakfast, Isis and Lefiya went with Riveria to study magic.

From that, Isis also learned about Lefiya's magic, Elf Ring—a summoning-type magic.

It allowed her to use the magic of others from her own race, but the condition was that she had to completely master both the target spell's effect and its chant. Casting summoned magic also consumed Mind equivalent to that spell.

That was why she had been studying under Riveria, learning the magic of their fellow elves.

Isis was stunned.

He had originally thought his own Dark Eyes was already absurdly overpowered, with its lack of magic-slot limitations, but it turned out there was someone even more outrageous.

That said, Isis himself was unique. He had no need to chant, and he could create magic on his own.

Most importantly, Isis's magic could be cast and released independently, with each spell chaining seamlessly into the next. That was the part that truly surprised Riveria.

In other words, so long as Isis's magic power could keep up, he was essentially a stable, mobile magic turret.

Today, they did not go to the library.

After all, Isis was not here to learn magic. What he needed to learn was control over his own magic power.

Likewise, Riveria needed to observe Isis's "four elements" directly before she could give him more accurate guidance.

"Lefiya, memorize the three chants and spell structures on these pages today. Then begin trying to chant the spell."

Riveria handed the magic book to the girl. Her tone was as cool and steady as always when teaching, yet carried an unmistakable seriousness that allowed no argument.

"Yes, Lady Riveria!"

Lefiya accepted the book with both hands. Her back instantly straightened, as if she had just received an expedition order on the training grounds, and a faint blush rose to her cheeks from the weight of the moment.

As for Isis, Riveria led him off to one side of the training ground.

"You may try releasing your four elements, then use the magic power within your body to control them."

"What you need to learn is control over your magic power. If you handle it badly, you may end up injuring yourself first."

Riveria spoke calmly, then signaled for him to begin.

Isis nodded. With a thought, four kinds of elemental energy emerged around his body.

"Ice."

He chose ice almost instantly.

A chill spread around him. The magic power within his body moved smoothly at his command, and in the next moment he thrust out a hand.

[Ice Crystal Drop]

Several ice spikes condensed into existence behind him in an instant, then shot forward along the direction of his finger.

[Bath of Ice Crystals]

A magic circle formed ahead of him, and icy spikes poured down like a storm, smashing craters into the solid stone ground as frost mist rose into the air.

Watching these two instant-cast spells, both released without chanting, Riveria quietly nodded to herself.

Just as she had expected—this child's magic was flawless.

Lefiya, meanwhile, blinked her wide golden eyes in astonishment. She had not expected Isis to truly be capable of instantly releasing magic without a chant, just as he had said before.

"So amazing…"

Sitting on the bench by the edge of the training ground, Lefiya had already forgotten all about the magic book in her hands.

Her round golden eyes were wide open, utterly fixed on the figure in the center of the field without even blinking.

"You can try switching elements now—or using magic from different elements in succession."

At that moment, Riveria gave her next instruction.

"Okay."

Isis nodded and mobilized the magic power within his body.

"Fire."

The attribute conversion completed in that very instant.

"Earthflame!"

The moment his hand fell and lifted again, four flames burst forth from his hand, rising continuously ahead of him as his magic power poured outward.

Then Isis drew on the magic power within his body again, trying to control his elemental force and switch once more.

But at that moment, magical fluctuations wound around his fingertips. A violent rejection reaction spread outward, forming a shining sphere of light.

Isis's expression changed slightly. Instinctively, he tried to use his own magic power to suppress the "fusion" of the two elements, but it had no effect at all.

Just then, Riveria appeared in front of him before he even realized she had moved. Magic power surged out from her body and gently wrapped around the glowing mass in his hand.

A few seconds later, the sphere of light gradually dispersed.

Only then did Isis realize that his own face had been showing a mixture of shock and helpless confusion.

"Auntie?"

Coming back to himself, he called out in puzzlement. He clearly did not understand why that had just happened.

"It's exactly as I thought. The way the elemental force in your body operates is fundamentally different from 'magic power.'"

Riveria did not blame him. Instead, she voiced the suspicion she had formed from the beginning.

The reason she had told Isis to perform elemental switching and use different spells in rapid succession was because she had already sensed that the flow of those four "elements" within him differed from the flow of magic power.

Now, it seemed that her guess had been proven correct.

"What do you mean?"

Isis was a little stunned. He did not quite understand what Riveria meant.

"When it comes to your elemental force, what you need to do is not control it, but adapt to its existence. More precisely… you must allow them to move freely within your body."

"So what you need to do is not forcefully control or tame them with magic power, but adapt to their presence and learn to coexist with them."

That was Riveria's answer.

Her words left Isis deep in thought. Almost instinctively, he closed his eyes and began to sense the flow of those four elemental energies within him.

They circulated through his body with completely different temperatures and textures—burning, freezing, dazzling, and profound.

But the moment he tried to seize hold of one of them, all four streams of power erupted at once, surging like four untamed horses.

At that moment, Isis understood what Riveria meant.

He sat down cross-legged on the ground, remaining still amid the "surging waves" inside himself.

Like water, containing all things.

The storming tide of magic power gradually calmed, and then, in that moment, the four elemental forces began to circle slowly around Isis.

They were not under his control—

and yet they were willing to offer themselves.

Seeing this, a faint smile touched Riveria's lips.

This child's insight and talent… were perhaps even greater than her own had been back then.

"Lefiya, after watching for so long, you've memorized the chants in that book already, haven't you?"

"Let me check your progress."

Lefiya snapped back to herself instantly, springing up like a kitten whose tail had been stepped on. Flustered, she raised the book to cover her burning-red face, leaving only her panicked eyes visible above it.

She had been so absorbed in watching Isis cast magic that, even now, she had not finished reading the chant on the very first page.
