Chapter 1 - The Red Diamond

At the annual Harvey gala, the gala sparkled with everything Amara hated but secretly craved wealth, power and influence. The gala filled with billionaires, multi millionaire and notable families on expensive tuxedos and gown and stories hidden behind their bol smiles.

Amara after eyeing the glittering buffet table finally took the confidence to walk across the hall to the food buffet and without knowing Bumped into a strange man and immediately apologized.

"I'm sorry"

without raising her head to see him and quickly left to get her food, she only got a hint of his cologne rich and had dark vibe to it.

The moment everyone was waiting for the infamous auction where rare and invaluable items were sold off. Amara was excited about this auction because she was going to write a beautiful piece on it and she was also interested in a particular item that there were rumors about it's going to be sold on this particular auction.

it was the red diamond a very rare piece of jewelry that was initially owned by the royal family in the 1600s were disappeared for years and later resurfaced in the 1900s and has been in private collection till date.

Amara took her sit and got her pen and her notepad on stand by ready to jot everything down because this wasn't just another societal event for Amara it was a material that could promote her journalism career prior to this Amara has been researching on the illusion of money, how fortunes were made, how legacies were rewritten, destiny's were changed and she takes tonight as the perfect example.

The action started with bidding of sculptures from the Victorian and Roman era then paintings from famous painters followed the moment we're all waiting for the red diamond the bid started at $3,000,000 and there were lots of people who bid on it the price kept going higher until he reached $23, 000,000.

The bid was about to close when a man from the VIP section rose is biding board

"$34,000,000".

A collective gaps echo through the room followed by a Dead silence every head turned and a man in a well tailored black suit lower his bidding board calmly and certainty as if he just bought a cup of coffee he took his seat.

Then the auctioneer hammer fell seconds later

"Sold to Mr. Lucian D'Artois".

 Applause erupted across the hall.

Amara froze in awe.

and the diamond was sold to him And it was no other than Lucian D'Artois, the young ceo taking the industry by a storm and has been all the rage not only because of his successful business but how quickly he rose to fame and money I knew instantly that was my next piece to write.

Everyone sees him as a hard worker, self made billionaire as he was often called who is Into import and exportation of goods, pharmaceuticals and logistics, now the story was too good to be true especially after the money he just spent, amara was hell bent on writing damn ass good story about him and how he rose to his fame with so much money in five years.

First of all Amara had to get an interview with him for her next piece.

She knew it would be hard asking him for an interview then she thoughts of using her company connections.

After the auction ended in her uber Amara flipped through what you had written from the auction on her way home and the little she got from the event.

Later that night she's out of her decks typing her piece, she decided to write on the flamboyant lifestyle of the events and themed it

"The perks of wealth"

she started of the piece talking about the crystal chandeliers, the Elegance of the gala, the guest, the energy in the room and the buffet (which was her favorite part) , the sponsors who donated out of actual sincerity and those out for praises and conscience relief. She then went ahead to write about the man who bought the red diamond and she described him as a mysterious billionaire whose presence seem to command the room without uttering a word.

The next day she goes to office she met her boss miss bill a woman in her mid 40's, who was the director of dazzle magazine a no nonsense woman you could say.

She got to work, headed straight to her bosses office, she reviewed it

"This is this a nice piece, it's good but it's not front page worthy, it doesn't have the hook we need".

Amara expression dulled and Miss bill went ahead to say

"If you can't make it stronger, if you cannot make it front page worthy, if you cannot look for the pizzas that is missing inside I am going to give the cover page to over to Felicia she really working on an attention drawing masterpiece."

Amara's face contort because hearing the name Felicia alone was enough to make Amara ignite her competitive streak after a while instantly brightened she had got it an idea.

"Give me one more shot amara said I have an idea that is front page worthy

that is the missing piece in the puzzle"

Ms. bill full attention was drawn Amara went ahead to explain further

"A feature on Mr. Lucian D'Artois"

Ms bill with a not so convincing look

"He's never done an interview with any magazine with any journalist with anyone for that matter I don't know how this is possible, how this your plan is going to be executed."

Amara positively spoke further

"Dazzle has connections, we could explore these connections I'm not asking for much I just want meet someone that can get me in close proximity with him and I can help myself from there."

Half-heartedly convinced Ms. bill agrees to see what she can do.
