Elena looked at the grand, stone-carved entrance of the Rose Guard barracks and then at the bustling marketplace. The marketplace was safer, but the barracks... that's where the real power (and the tall, silver-clad Captain) lived.
"If I'm going to survive this world," Elena whispered to herself, "I might as well start at the top."
The barracks of the Rose Guard weren't just a building; they were a fortress of polished marble and crimson banners. At the gate stood two guards, their spears crossed in a perfect "X" that shouted Stay Out.

"State your business, traveler," one of the guards barked. Her eyes were sharp, but as they landed on Elena, her grip on the spear loosened. The [Magnetic Aura] was already doing the heavy lifting.
"I... I found this," Elena said, pulling a small, silk handkerchief from her pocket (which the System had conveniently 'spawned' there seconds ago). "The Captain dropped it during her arrival. I thought it best to return it personally
The guards exchanged a look. Normally, they'd toss a commoner out on her ear, but Elena's amber eyes were doing that shimmering thing again.
"The Captain is in the training courtyard," the guard muttered, her face reddening. "Go straight through. And... try not to get in the way of the swinging steel."
The ring of metal on metal filled the air. In the center of the yard, Seraphina was a whirlwind of motion. She wasn't wearing her heavy plate armor now—just a fitted leather training vest over a white linen shirt, her sleeves rolled up to reveal toned, scarred forearms.
She was sparring with three recruits at once, her wooden practice sword moving faster than Elena's eyes could follow.
[TARGET OBSERVED: Seraphina (Training Mode)]
Current Focus: 100% (Combat Trance).
Opportunity: A 'Spontaneous Cheer' or 'Accidental Distraction.'
Elena waited for a lull in the action. As Seraphina disarmed the last recruit with a flick of her wrist, Elena stepped forward into the sunlight of the courtyard.
"Impressive form, Captain," Elena said, her voice carrying across the yard.
Seraphina froze. She wiped sweat from her brow with the back of her hand, her violet eyes snapping toward the intruder. When she realized it was the "fainting commoner" from earlier, her stern expression wavered for a fraction of a second.
"You again," Seraphina said, tossing the wooden sword to a recruit. She walked over, her presence even more intimidating without the horse. "How did you get past my sentries?"
"I'm very persuasive," Elena smirked, holding out the silk handkerchief. "And you dropped this."
Seraphina looked at the silk, then at Elena's fingers. She reached out to take it, but her hand brushed against Elena's. A literal spark—static or magic, Elena couldn't tell—jumped between them.
[SYSTEM DING!]

Seraphina's Composure: Crumbling.

"Thank you," Seraphina cleared her throat, stuffing the silk into her belt. "Now, leave. This is a place of war, not a garden for pretty girls to wander."
"Then teach me," Elena said, stepping closer until she was nearly in the Captain's personal space. "If it's a place of war, I should know how to defend myself. Unless the Great Captain Seraphina is afraid I'll be too much of a distraction?"
The courtyard went silent. The recruits held their breath. Seraphina's eyes narrowed, a dangerous—and intrigued—glint appearing in them.
You want to train?" Seraphina whispered, her voice dropping an octave. "Pick up a sword, commoner. Let's see if that mouth of yours is your only weapon."
