Chapter 1 - Games

Games?

What are games?

Some people would say that games are extremely complex programs formed by lines and more lines of code. A child would say that games are fun digital adventures that serve for entertainment.

" Nathaniel Grimm "

Both definitions are, in a way, correct. After all, the definition of game varies from each one to each. For example, poker is a card game, but it does not fit the definition of game of many children.

Table RPG is the favorite game of many young people and adults in the world, but a child used only to screens and graphics couldn't stand 20 minutes having to roll a dice.

The same can be said about several other types of games in the world. After all, as I said before, the definition of "what is a game" varies from person to person.

" Nathaniel Grimm "

For me, games are something I understand very well, I grew up surrounded by games. Digital games in the case. I also like board games and card games, but digital games have always been my greatest fascination.

For me, games are a new world completely different from ours, but which simultaneously have some similarity with our normal world. No matter what type of game it is, RPG, adventure, action, investigation, romance, narrative, each one introduces you to a new context and a new story.

Perhaps the best thing about games is that while they are able to entertain those who play, they are also able to put you to live and experience everything that the character is seeing, hearing and feeling. And since in most current games you are able to create your own character the way you want, it's as if you were the one who is living the events of the game.

You can be the hero who kills the demon king, the villain who conquered the world, a naive and innocent young man who lives a love story, or a detective trying to solve an impossible case through pure stubbornness and intelligence.

In a nutshell, a game is like an extremely exaggerated story where you can be the protagonist or even the narrator in some cases.

"Mister Grimm! "

There is nothing better than a game capable of holding your attention for hours. An immersive story, a fun gameplay, beautiful graphics (this depends on the opinion of each one), a divine soundtrack (this also depends on the opinion of each one) and a good ending are criteria that everyone should comply with.

Unfortunately, not all games meet these requirements and it is much more common to find games made in a hurry, poorly finished, full of glitches and incredibly horrible both narratively and visually.

This does not mean that there are no good games, it just means that really good games are difficult to find or be produced. And that's also that there was an age that had better games than the games of another age, because every decade had several incredibly terrible games.

I think I've talked too much about games. But the fact is that I'm a great fan of games, I've played a countless amount of games of the most diverse genres, and not to brag, but I've finished them all.

My name wouldn't be Nathaniel Grimm if I hadn't done that.

THUD!

"Mister Grimm! "

Shit. I got distracted again.

"Yes? "My voice came out firmer than I expected, especially considering the person who was in front of me.

My history teacher, Mrs. Edderson. A woman of almost 50 years, who has worked with children fod 20 years old, and a teacher known for her old-fashioned teaching methods and extremely severe attitude.

Briefly, the nightmare of any 13-years-old young boy (in this case, me) who does not know the meaning of the word respect.

In my defense, her class is boring.

"I called you more than 5 times" She was looking directly into my eyes while talking "What were you doing thats was so important to ignore me like that? "

I was still looking at her, honestly I couldn't look away now or I would just look more guilty than I already am. I could feel the rest of the class looking at me, probably already knowing how this situation would end.

Lightly, I focused my vision on the portable console under my desk, with the screen still on and the final battle between the hero and his group against the demon king was being shown on this same screen. It was obviously the panel of a game, the same game I was in seconds before she hit my table. Luckily, I was able to quickly put it under the table so that she didn't notice.

But when I turned my vision to her, I could see that she noticed where I was looking and now she was quite curious to know where I was looking.

In other words, my situation had gotten even worse.

Umm, a dialogue option with multiple choices. Let's see what my options are.

1. Tell the truth and admit that I was playing during her class. Most plausible result: Principal's office.

2. Lie. More plausible result: she sees that I'm lying and sends me to the principal's office.

3. Be silent. Most plausible result: principal's office.

4. Try to praise her. More plausible result: she sends me to the principal's office, but blushes. But there is also a small chance that she likes the compliment and doesn't send me to the principal's office.

...

Meh, let's just be honest.

"I wasn't paying attention to your class" I said with my firmest voice. Well, not firm, but not trembling.

As expected, she narrowed her eyes and I could see a vein jumping out of her forehead "What were you doing instead of paying attention to my class? "

Um, now I have the option to lie or tell the truth. Either way, I end up on the Principal's Office.

In this case, fuck it all.

"Honestly, with all due respect, without wanting to offend you or anything Professor, but your class is so boring that seeing paint drying would be much more interesting than being here"

Another vein jumped from her forehead.

Unexpected reaction. Let's extend the dialogue a little more now.

"I got so bored that I started playing during this class" I slowly removed my console under the table while the whole class looked "And yet I could still hear your annoying voice "

Laughters. The situation went from tense to funny. Well, at least for them. For Mrs. Edderson, whose face was taking on a new a shade of red, you could see that she wanted to drown me.

Okay, this is being funny. Let's see what else I can do.

"If I had to choose between being buried alive or having to continue in this class for another 5 minutes, I would choose a thousand times to be buried alive. Because if it's not the shortness of breath that kill me, then your class will finish the service " I said with a purposely smug smile.

And that was the last nail in my coffin.

"MR. GRIMM...- "

"Principal's office, I know. Save your voice because I'm tired of hearing you " I got up and drove to the door before she could finish the sentence.

But before leaving, I turned around, positioned myself behind Mrs. Edderson who, perhaps because of the anger, didn't see me coming back. But as soon as I was already behind her, with the whole class looking, I did the unthinkable...

I slapped her ass.

SLAP!

Hard.

" Thicc " I commented so she could hear me.

She turned slowly, her face completely red, this time I didn't know if it was anger or shame.

The whole class was holding back their laughters, and seeing that I already screwed everything, I made my last comment.

" Nice ass. Your husband is lucky man " I said turning my back to her and leaving the room.

A strong laughter erupted throughout the corridor the moment I left the room.

I was really going to the principal's office, but I stopped halfway and brushed myself against the wall while thinking.

Well, I'll probably be expelled out after this, and I don't want to cause any more problems to Sophia...

Yeah, better do it again. But this time, avoiding causing problems.

Okay, then...

[Restart]

" Nathaniel Grimm "

" Here " I answered quickly putting the console under the desk like the last time.
