Chapter 1 - The mystery

"Help me… help me, Daniel…!"

The desperate voice echoed in the darkness.

Daniel Williams suddenly woke up, gasping for breath. His heart was pounding wildly, and his entire body was drenched in sweat. The voice still rang in his ears—it was his sister, Eva.

"Eva…?" he whispered, trying to calm himself.

"DANIEL!"

A loud voice snapped him back to reality.

He looked up and saw his teacher standing right in front of him, her face filled with anger.

"Sleeping in my class again? Get out!" she shouted.

The whole class burst into laughter as Daniel slowly stood up, still shaken from the dream. He walked out of the classroom and stood in the corridor, staring at the floor.

Something felt wrong.

It didn't feel like just a nightmare.

After a few minutes, some of his classmates came out during the break.

"Hey, what happened?" one of them asked.

Daniel hesitated, then said quietly, "I saw my sister… she was calling for help."

They exchanged looks and shrugged.

"Relax, man. It's just a nightmare," one of them said casually.

"Yeah, don't overthink it."

Daniel forced a small nod, but deep inside, he couldn't shake off the fear.

As soon as school ended, Daniel rushed home. His heart was beating faster with every step.

But as he reached his apartment building, he suddenly stopped.

Something was terribly wrong.

A police car was parked outside.

An ambulance stood nearby.

A small crowd had gathered around the entrance, whispering among themselves.

Daniel's chest tightened.

"No… no, this can't be…" he muttered, pushing through the crowd.

As he got closer, he heard someone say in a low voice—

"It's so sad… such a young girl…"

His breath stopped.

His legs felt weak as his eyes searched desperately—

And then he saw it.

Everything around him went silent.

The world froze.

His sister… Eva… was gone.

Daniel stood there, completely numb, unable to move, unable to speak. His mind refused to accept what his eyes had just seen.

The same voice echoed again in his head—

"Help me… Daniel…"

But this time…

He was too late.
