Chapter 4 - The Bond

I woke to warmth.

Not just the physical warmth of his body wrapped around mine though that was there, all muscle and heat and the steady rhythm of his breathing. Something deeper. A glow in my chest that hadn't been there before. A connection. An awareness.

I could feel him.

Not his thoughts not exactly. But his emotions. A low hum of contentment that I knew, somehow, was coming from him. From the bond.

You're awake.

His voice. In my head.

I jerked. Sat up. Stared at him.

He opened his eyes. Gold and soft and amused.

"What" I couldn't form words. "How "

The bond. It's settling. He sat up too, reached for me. I can feel you too. Your shock. Your wonder. It's beautiful.

"This is real?"

"As real as anything." He pulled me close, kissed my forehead. "I told you. Once we …." He smiled. "Once we completed the bond, it locks into place. Now we're connected. Always."

I closed my eyes. Reached for that warmth.

I found him instantly. A presence in my mind, warm and solid and utterly him.

See? His mental voice was gentle. I'm here. Always.

I opened my eyes. Looked at him.

"This is terrifying."

"I know."

"And amazing."

"I know that too."

"And I don't know what to do with it."

He laughed softly. "You don't have to do anything. Just feel. Let it be. It'll become natural eventually."

"Eventually?"

"Wolves grow up with this. We're taught about the bond from birth. For humans " He kissed me. "It takes time."

Time.

We had time.

He made breakfast again.

I watched again. But this time was different. I could feel him while I watched his focus on the food, yes, but also his awareness of me. His pleasure that I was watching. His constant, burning want.

You know I can feel that, right?

He glanced over his shoulder. Smirked. Feel what?

The wanting. It's I flushed. Loud.

His smirk widened. Good.

"Kael."

"Elena." He crossed to me, pulled me up from the chair. "You're my mate. I just claimed you. I'm going to want you constantly. For the rest of our lives."

"That's..."

"A lot. I know." He kissed me. "Get used to it."

After breakfast, he took me to meet the pack properly.

They gathered in the clearing dozens of wolves in human form, watching us with those gold eyes. But this time, the looks were different. Warmer. Accepting.

"They know," I murmured.

"They can smell me on you. The bond." Kael's hand pressed against my lower back. "They know you're mine now. Really mine."

Jax stepped forward. Smiled real smile, not the cautious one from before.

"Welcome, Luna."

I blinked. "Luna?"

"Mate of the Alpha. That makes you Luna of the Bloodmoon Pack." He inclined his head. "We're honored."

I looked at Kael. He was watching me, expression soft.

"I didn't" I shook my head. "I don't know how to be a Luna."

"You don't have to know." He squeezed my hand. "Just be you. That's enough."

The women of the pack surrounded me after.

Not threatening welcoming. They asked questions, shared stories, made me feel like I belonged. A woman named Sasha, mate of Jax, took my arm.

"We've been waiting for this," she said. "Kael's been alone so long. We were starting to worry."

"Worry?"

"That he'd never find you. Some wolves don't. They live their whole lives without their mate." She squeezed my arm. "But you found each other. The Moon is good."

The Moon.

I still didn't understand that part. But watching these women watching their easy acceptance, their obvious love for each other and their pack I started to.

That night, we sat on the porch.

The forest stretched before us, dark and ancient. Stars burned overhead more than I'd ever seen in the city. His arm was around me, warm and solid.

"I can feel you," I said quietly. "All the time now. It's strange."

"Strange good or strange bad?"

"Both." I leaned into him. "I've never been this connected to anyone. It's overwhelming."

"It'll settle." He kissed my hair. "The bond will always be there, but it'll fade into the background. You'll learn to ignore it when you need to."

"And when I don't want to ignore it?"

He pulled me onto his lap. "Then you reach for it. And I'll be there."

I looked at him. At this impossible man who'd become my whole world in days.

"I love you."

The words came out before I could stop them. I froze. Waited for his reaction.

His eyes flared gold.

"Say it again."

"I love you, Kael. I know it's fast. I know it doesn't make sense. But I"

He kissed me. Cut off the words.

When he pulled back, his eyes were wet.

"I've waited ten years to hear that." His voice cracked. "Ten years of hoping. Ten years of dreaming. And now"

"Now you have it."

"Now I have everything." He held me close. "I love you too, Elena. More than I thought it was possible to love anything."

We stayed like that, wrapped in each other, while the stars wheeled overhead.

Later, in bed, Kael showed me just how much, his touch a slow, deliberate fire that consumed me inch by searing inch.

We were already tangled in the silken sheets, the moonlight painting our skin in silver and shadow, his massive frame hovering over mine like a predator savoring its prey. But there was no rush in his golden eyes tonight, only raw, worshipful hunger. He started at my lips, kissing me languidly, his tongue sliding against mine in deep, unhurried strokes that made my toes curl and my core clench with aching need. When he pulled back, his breath was hot against my mouth, whispering promises of devotion.

His lips began their journey downward, mapping every curve and hollow of my body as if committing me to eternal memory. He nipped at the sensitive spot below my ear, sending sparks skittering across my skin, then trailed wet, open-mouthed kisses along my throat, over the frantic pulse that betrayed my racing heart. Lower still, he lavished attention on my breasts his tongue circling one hardened nipple, teasing it to a taut peak before drawing it deep into the heat of his mouth, sucking with just enough pressure to make me arch off the bed, a whimper escaping my lips. His free hand kneaded the other, thumb flicking relentlessly, the dual assault coiling heat low in my belly.

I threaded my fingers through his dark hair, tugging gently, but he only growled a low, vibrating rumble that resonated through my bones as he continued his descent. His mouth explored the dip of my navel, the soft plane of my stomach, his stubble grazing my skin in delicious friction. By the time he reached the apex of my thighs, I was a quivering mess, my legs parting instinctively, slick and swollen with anticipation. Kael's eyes darkened as he inhaled my scent, a primal groan escaping him. "So wet for me, Elena," he murmured, his voice rough with restraint. "All mine."

His hands followed the path of his lips, large and calloused palms gliding over my hips, thumbs tracing teasing circles on my inner thighs before spreading me wide. He kissed the delicate skin there, his breath feathering hot against my core, making me gasp and writhe. Then his tongue oh gods, his tongue dipped between my folds, lapping at me slowly, savoring. He circled my clit with featherlight flicks, building the pressure until I was grinding against his face, desperate for more. One finger, then two, slid inside me, curling just right to stroke that hidden spot, stretching me with a burn that blurred into bliss. He worked me methodically, his mouth and hands in perfect sync, until stars danced behind my eyelids and my body trembled on the edge, every nerve alight.

Only then did he rise, his own arousal straining thick and heavy against my thigh, the tip glistening with his need. He positioned himself at my entrance, the heat of him teasing my slick heat. "Look at me," he whispered, his voice a husky command laced with tenderness.

I did, locking eyes with those molten gold depths, seeing the wild wolf staring back fierce, protective, utterly devoted. He pushed inside slowly, inch by agonizing inch, filling me completely for the first time. The stretch was exquisite, a sharp ache that melted into profound fullness, our mate bond igniting like wildfire, amplifying every sensation: the velvet drag of him against my walls, the pulse of his heartbeat echoing in my veins, the shared rush of emotions flooding through us love, possession, unbreakable unity.

"Yours," I gasped, my nails digging into his shoulders as he bottomed out, our hips flush, bodies joined as one.

"Mine." He thrust deeper, a slow roll of his hips that hit every sensitive nerve, making me cry out. "Forever."

"Yes. Forever." The words were a vow, sealing us as he began to move deliberate, powerful strokes that built the rhythm between us, his body claiming mine with reverent intensity. Sweat slicked our skin, the air thick with the musk of our arousal, the wet sounds of our joining mingling with my breathy moans and his guttural groans.

As pleasure crested, his wolf surged, fangs lengthening in that primal moment. With a possessive snarl, he leaned down, his mouth finding the curve of my shoulder. He bit not to wound, but to mark his teeth sinking in with perfect precision as he drove into me one final, shattering thrust. The pain bloomed hot and bright, instantly transmuting through the bond into liquid ecstasy, a surge of power that locked our souls. We came together, the bond exploding in a cataclysm of pleasure waves crashing through me, clenching around him as he spilled deep inside, his roar vibrating against my skin, prolonging the bliss until I was boneless,

We came together, the bond exploding with pleasure, and I understood for the first time what it meant to be truly, completely, utterly claimed.

"Yours"I gasped

"Mine" forever

"Yes " Forever
