Blackwell Territory
The ancient halls of the Blackwell Territory stood in absolute silence.
For centuries, these halls had witnessed countless rulers rise and fall, yet their stone walls had never trembled before the power of their own bloodline.
Then…
A cry echoed across the bloodline.
It was not a sound carried by the wind.
It was not a voice that reached the ears.
It was a cry that resonated deep within their souls.
Every member of the Blackwell bloodline—no matter where they were in the world—felt it.
Wave…
after wave…
after wave…
A crushing sorrow unlike anything they had ever experienced poured into their hearts.
Some Blackwells suddenly dropped to their knees.
Others collapsed to the floor, clutching their chests as though their hearts were being torn apart.
Several lost consciousness the instant the overwhelming grief reached them.
Throughout the territory, blood-red eyes flew open in shock.
Tears of blood streamed down countless faces.
No one understood what was happening.
Inside the Council Chambers, chaos erupted.
Council members cried out as unbearable agony surged through their bodies.
Several grabbed their heads, screaming in pain.
"What... is this?!"
"I can't stop it!"
"It hurts!"
The pain was relentless.
It was not physical.
It was emotional.
It felt as though an endless ocean of grief had been forced into their souls.
Even the elders—those who had lived for centuries—had never experienced anything like it.
Silas slammed one hand against the cold stone wall to keep himself from collapsing.
His entire body trembled violently.
"What... is happening..."
Blood slowly trickled from the corner of his eye.
For the first time in centuries…
Fear appeared on his face.
Not fear of an enemy.
Fear of something far greater.
Beside him, Lucius fell heavily to one knee.
His breathing became ragged as another wave crashed through him.
"Gah...!"
His vision blurred.
He nearly lost consciousness.
Every instinct within him screamed the same terrifying truth.
This power…
did not belong to any ordinary Blackwell.
Somewhere…
The true Queen had awakened.
And with her awakening…
The Blackwell bloodline had begun to weep.
⸻
Colorado
Thousands of miles away…
The afternoon sun cast long shadows across the rugged slopes of Pikes Peak.
Warm summer winds swept through the towering pine trees as Malachi stood alone on the mountainside.
For weeks, he had searched these trails, following the mysterious pulse of power he had sensed before it vanished without a trace.
Every lead had ended in silence.
Yet he refused to give up.
Without warning…
His body froze.
A violent pressure struck his heart.
He staggered backward.
"What...?"
Another wave crashed through him.
Not against his body…
But against his very soul.
His knees nearly buckled beneath the overwhelming force.
He caught himself against a nearby boulder, struggling to remain standing.
The grief…
The rage…
The loneliness…
Every emotion poured into him as though they were his own.
His crimson eyes widened.
"This isn't..."
"This isn't the same wave I felt before..."
He slowly lifted his gaze toward the distant horizon.
"It was closer then..."
His voice was barely more than a whisper.
"So this..."
"...this is the true source."
Another pulse surged through his heart.
This time…
He understood.
Despite the unbearable pain, a smile slowly spread across his face.
"The Queen..."
"...I've finally found you."
He closed his eyes and pressed one hand over his heart as another wave of sorrow washed through him.
Instead of resisting it…
He welcomed it.
A quiet determination filled his voice.
"Wait for me..."
He opened his eyes, staring toward the distant horizon.
"Your Majesty."
Then, without another word, Malachi turned and began walking toward the mountains beyond.
Alaska Borderline
Rose continued cutting through the monsters without pause.
One after another, they fell beneath her crimson flames.
Nearly ten hours had passed since the battle began.
Not once had she stopped.
Not once had she rested.
The rest of the team struggled to keep pace behind her.
Their breathing had become heavy. Their movements had slowed, and exhaustion weighed down every step.
Rose alone continued forward.
Her teammates exchanged worried glances before August finally stepped toward her.
"Captain Rose," he said carefully. "We need to take a break."
"We've been fighting for almost ten hours," Benny added. "Everyone is exhausted."
Irish wiped the sweat from her brow.
"You need to eat too," she said gently. "None of us can keep pushing like this."
Rose continued walking.
Her golden eyes remained fixed on the battlefield ahead.
"The sooner we finish," she replied quietly, "the sooner we can find Sophia."
Silence fell over the team.
They understood why Rose refused to stop.
Claudette's death still weighed heavily on her heart, and every monster she destroyed seemed to become another outlet for her grief.
But this was no longer determination.
She was punishing herself.
Irish stepped forward again.
"Rose."
This time, Rose stopped.
Irish met her eyes.
"Think about Claudette."
Rose's expression trembled.
"She wouldn't want you destroying yourself because of her."
"You haven't eaten since yesterday."
"You haven't rested."
"And you've barely spoken to any of us."
Irish's voice softened.
"If you keep going like this, your body is going to give out."
Rose remained silent.
For several long seconds, she stared at the scorched earth beneath her feet.
Finally, she gave a reluctant nod.
"…You're right."
She lowered her weapons.
"Let's head back to the operations tent."
A collective breath of relief passed through the group.
As Rose walked ahead of them, Ryder looked over the battlefield and slowly shook his head.
"I finally understand."
James glanced at him.
"Understand what?"
Ryder stared at the destruction behind them.
The remains of monsters covered the ground as far as they could see. Entire sections of the forest had been burned away, leaving behind blackened trees and smoldering earth.
"This doesn't even look like a battle anymore."
He swallowed hard.
"It looks like a slaughter."
"A completely one-sided slaughter."
No one disagreed.
⸻
As the team made its way back toward the operations tent, James kept his Sound Magic active.
Even while exhausted, he continued listening to the vibrations moving through the earth, the trees, and the air around them.
Then he heard it.
A deep, violent rumbling beneath the ground.
James stopped.
His eyes widened.
"…Wait."
Something enormous was moving beneath the forest floor.
Fast.
Far too fast.
The vibration grew stronger.
And it was heading directly toward Rose.
"Rose!"
James shouted with everything he had.
"LOOK OUT!"
Rose kept walking.
Her mind was too clouded by exhaustion and grief to register his warning.
Before anyone else could react—
Pop!
Ryder vanished.
An instant later, he appeared beside Rose and grabbed her shoulder.
Pop!
They disappeared again.
Both of them reappeared high among the branches of a towering tree.
Rose blinked in confusion.
"Ryder?"
She looked around.
"What are you doing?"
Ryder leaned heavily against the trunk, struggling to catch his breath.
"James sensed something coming straight toward you."
"You weren't responding."
Rose frowned.
"I didn't hear him."
A violent explosion tore through the ground below.
Rose looked down.
Her eyes widened.
A colossal serpent burst from beneath the earth.
Chunks of stone and dirt scattered through the forest as its enormous body rose above the trees.
Its emerald scales shimmered like polished steel.
Its golden eyes moved through the forest with frightening intelligence.
It was not searching for food.
It was searching for power.
The overwhelming energy Rose had released throughout the day had drawn it from miles away.
The serpent slowly lifted its enormous head.
Its golden eyes locked onto Rose.
A long hiss escaped between its fangs as it recognized the source of the power it had been following.
Its massive body coiled around the base of the tree.
The trunk groaned beneath its weight.
Ryder grabbed Rose's arm.
"We have to move."
He tried to activate Veilstep.
Nothing happened.
He tried again.
Still nothing.
"…Damn it."
His breathing became ragged.
"My power has reached its limit."
He tightened his grip on Rose.
"I can't Veilstep again."
Rose looked at him calmly.
"Don't worry."
She stepped toward the edge of the branch.
"I'm not tired."
Ryder stared at her.
They both knew that was a lie.
"Rose…"
Before he could stop her, she jumped.
"ROSE!"
Everyone below looked up in horror.
The serpent opened its enormous jaws, revealing rows of curved fangs.
For a single heartbeat, Rose appeared small against the monstrous creature.
Then crimson flames erupted around her hands.
Two blazing swords formed within her grasp.
The serpent lunged.
Rose raised both blades above her head.
With one flawless swing—
Slash!
A crescent of crimson fire tore through the air.
The serpent was cut cleanly in half.
Its enormous body crashed into the earth with a deafening impact.
The force shook the forest.
Rose descended through the falling ash and debris, her flames carrying her gently toward the ground.
She landed gracefully on both feet.
Silence followed.
No one moved.
No one spoke.
They could only stare at her.
After ten hours of nonstop combat, Rose had still defeated a monster powerful enough to destroy an entire squad.
Rose took one step forward.
Then another.
Her vision blurred.
The sounds around her became distant.
The world tilted beneath her feet.
She took one final step.
Her knees gave way.
The flames surrounding her vanished.
"Rose!"
Before anyone could reach her…
darkness swallowed her whole.
Blackwell Sanctuary
Darkness slowly faded into an endless crimson sky.
Golden flowers danced gently beneath the warm breeze.
Rose looked across the familiar sanctuary, and a faint smile touched her lips.
"The Blackwell Sanctuary…"
"Welcome back, Rose."
She turned toward the familiar voice.
Queen Aurelia stood only a few steps away, her long crimson hair moving gently in the wind.
But something was different.
Tears filled the Queen's eyes.
Without saying a word, Aurelia rushed forward and wrapped Rose in her arms.
The moment Rose felt her warmth, everything she had been holding inside finally shattered.
She clung tightly to Aurelia.
"I couldn't save her…"
Her voice trembled as tears streamed down her cheeks.
"I'm so tired…"
"I failed Claudette…"
Aurelia held her closer and gently stroked her hair.
"It's all right."
"You don't have to carry this burden alone."
"I can feel your pain, Rose."
Rose buried her face against Aurelia's shoulder and cried harder than she ever had before.
Aurelia said nothing more.
She simply held Rose, allowing her to release the grief, guilt, and anger that had been consuming her since Claudette's death.
When Rose's sobs finally began to quiet, Aurelia gently pulled away and wiped the tears from her face.
Her expression became distant.
"I wanted revenge once."
Rose looked up at her.
Aurelia's eyes filled with sorrow.
"It consumed me."
"It blinded my judgment."
"And in the end…"
Her voice softened.
"I lost everything."
Silence filled the sanctuary.
Rose lowered her gaze.
For a moment, she thought about Claudette.
Then she thought about Sophia.
"I don't know what I'll do…"
Her hands slowly tightened into fists.
"When I finally stand before Sophia."
Aurelia watched her carefully.
Rose took a steady breath before lifting her head.
"But it cannot be revenge."
Aurelia's eyes widened slightly.
"If revenge controls me," Rose continued, "then I've already lost."
"What Sophia did cannot be ignored, but I won't allow hatred to decide her punishment."
"It has to be justice."
"If you're going to stand beside me…"
Rose looked directly into Aurelia's eyes.
"…then promise me that we will fight for justice, not revenge."
Aurelia stared at her for several moments.
Then a proud smile appeared on her face.
"You truly are different from the Blackwells I once knew."
She nodded.
"Very well."
"Justice it shall be."
Rose's shoulders relaxed slightly.
Aurelia gently touched her cheek.
"When the day comes for you to face Sophia…"
"Remember the promise you made here."
Rose nodded.
"Justice."
Aurelia's smile softened.
"Justice."
⸻
Her expression slowly became serious again.
"There is something else you must know."
Rose straightened.
"The cry your heart released reached every member of the Blackwell bloodline."
Rose stared at her.
"They all felt it?"
"They did."
"The grief you released traveled through the bond connecting the Queen to her bloodline."
Aurelia placed one hand over Rose's heart.
"They now know that the true Queen has awakened."
Rose's eyes widened.
"Do they know about me?"
"No."
Aurelia shook her head.
"They do not know your face or your identity."
"They only recognize my presence awakening within you."
Rose lowered her gaze.
"So they'll begin searching for us."
"They will."
Aurelia's eyes grew serious.
"From this moment forward…"
"Every step you take may be watched."
"Some will seek to protect you."
"Others will try to claim you and use your power for themselves."
Her voice became colder.
"And many…"
"…will seek to destroy you."
Rose remained silent as the meaning of Aurelia's warning settled over her.
After a long pause, she whispered,
"Why did they feel my pain so deeply?"
Aurelia looked at her with gentle eyes.
"Because a Queen never bears her burden alone."
"The moment a Queen suffers…"
"…her bloodline suffers with her."
Rose's eyes trembled.
"So they cried…"
"…because of me?"
Aurelia gently lifted Rose's chin.
"No."
"They cried because they belong to their Queen."
Rose stood speechless.
For the first time, she truly understood the weight of the crown.
It was not merely power.
It was responsibility.
Her sorrow could reach thousands.
Her anger could awaken forces across the world.
And every decision she made could affect an entire bloodline.
⸻
After a moment, Aurelia's expression softened.
"I see you've met my child."
Rose blinked.
"…Your child?"
"My dragon."
Rose's eyes widened slightly.
"He recognized my presence the moment he saw you," Aurelia explained. "He knows that I am within you."
She tilted her head curiously.
"I'm surprised you didn't bring him with you on this mission."
Rose looked away.
"To be honest…"
"I wanted to fight alone."
"I needed somewhere to release my anger."
Aurelia gently patted her head.
"I understand."
"There are times when the heart longs for solitude."
"But remember this, Rose."
"You are no longer alone."
"My dragon has chosen you."
"He will stand beside you just as faithfully as he once stood beside me."
Rose gave a small nod.
"I'll remember."
⸻
Aurelia stepped back.
"Now, I'm going to teach you how to hide."
Rose blinked.
"Hide?"
"Not your identity."
Aurelia lifted one hand, and a faint crimson glow appeared around her fingers.
"Your Blackwell aura."
"They remember my face."
"They remember my power."
"And now that they have sensed my awakening, they will search for that same energy."
"But they do not know yours."
Aurelia placed her hand gently against Rose's chest.
"If you suppress my aura, they will only sense the power belonging to the Radiant Clan."
"My Phoenix power," Rose said.
Aurelia nodded.
"Exactly."
Rose looked down at her hands.
"How do I suppress it?"
"Close your eyes."
Rose obeyed.
Aurelia moved behind her.
"Power follows the heart."
"A restless heart allows power to overflow."
"A calm heart keeps it close."
"Do not fight against the energy."
"Do not force it away."
"Simply gather it within yourself."
A faint crimson aura began rising around Rose.
"Now breathe," Aurelia instructed.
"Slowly."
Rose inhaled deeply.
"Imagine that you are holding your breath beneath water."
"You are not destroying the air."
"You are simply keeping it contained."
Rose slowly exhaled.
The crimson aura surrounding her began to shrink.
Smaller…
Smaller…
Until only the warm golden flames of her Phoenix power remained.
Rose opened her eyes and stared at her hands.
"It worked…"
Aurelia smiled proudly.
"You learn quickly."
She stepped closer and gently touched Rose's forehead.
"But controlling your power also means controlling your emotions."
"The stronger your grief or anger becomes, the harder it will be to conceal my presence."
Rose nodded.
"I'll practice."
The sanctuary slowly began to fade around them.
The golden flowers dissolved into tiny particles of light.
Aurelia's expression became solemn.
"Be careful, Rose."
"The road ahead will only become more dangerous."
Rose reached toward her.
"Aurelia…"
The Queen smiled gently as her image began to disappear.
"Remember."
"You do not have to walk it alone."
Alaska Operations Tent
Light slowly returned.
Rose opened her eyes.
The canvas roof of the operations tent gradually came into focus.
She blinked several times before slowly pushing herself upright.
Her body felt unbearably heavy, and every muscle ached from exhaustion.
She rubbed her eyes, trying to clear the lingering fog from her mind.
The tent flap opened.
Achelous stepped inside.
The moment he saw her sitting up, relief crossed his face.
"Good."
"You're finally awake."
Rose looked around the unfamiliar tent before turning back to him.
"What happened?"
"You passed out after killing that giant serpent."
"We carried you back here."
His expression became serious.
"The medic examined you."
He released a quiet sigh.
"Thankfully, you're all right."
"You're just completely exhausted."
Achelous crossed his arms.
"And according to the medic…"
"You haven't eaten for 2 days."
Rose avoided his gaze.
Achelous shook his head.
"You fought for ten straight hours."
"Then you slept for another six."
He stepped closer to the bed.
"Rose…"
"Please don't push yourself that far again."
"You frightened everyone."
Rose lowered her eyes.
"I'm sorry."
Achelous's expression softened.
"I know why you're doing this."
"We all want to find Sophia."
"And none of us have forgotten what happened to Claudette."
"But destroying yourself won't bring us any closer to her."
Rose remained silent for a moment before nodding.
"You're right."
Achelous smiled gently.
"I'll have someone bring you a bowl of hot soup."
"You need to eat before you even think about going back out there."
Rose chuckled softly.
"That actually sounds really nice."
"Thank you."
"I'll gladly take the soup."
She slowly lowered herself back onto the bed.
"But I think I need to lie down a little longer."
Achelous nodded approvingly.
"Good."
"Rest."
"I'll bring the soup as soon as it's ready."
He turned and walked out of the tent.
As the flap closed behind him, silence returned.
Rose stared at the canvas ceiling for several moments.
Then she remembered Aurelia's lesson.
She closed her eyes.
Taking a slow breath, she inhaled deeply.
Power follows the heart.
A restless heart allows power to overflow.
A calm heart keeps it close.
Rose slowly exhaled.
A faint crimson glow flickered around her body.
She focused on drawing the Blackwell energy inward instead of forcing it away.
Little by little, the crimson aura began to shrink.
Smaller…
Smaller…
Until it disappeared beneath the warm golden glow of her Phoenix power.
Rose opened her eyes.
"It worked…"
A small smile touched her lips.
Her body was still exhausted.
Claudette was still gone.
Sophia was still somewhere beyond their reach.
And the Blackwell bloodline had begun searching for its Queen.
None of those burdens had disappeared.
But for the first time since Claudette's death, the grief no longer felt as though it were controlling her.
Rose placed one hand over her heart and took one final, calming breath.
She was not ready to return to the battlefield yet.
But she was ready for whatever came next.
"I'm ready."
