Chapter 3 - Ready or Not?

Rivermark trial day was approaching fast. Kelly mercer, not so much a fan of football, but a great admirer of her grandfather's work, was werry of this. And she decides to research on each candidate which we're most likely to pass the trial.

She snuck into coach Joe's office. Nonchalantly decides to chew gum, and threw the wrapping on the floor. Afterwards, she started going through each of the candidates file she wanted.

She checks up on Mikael Soren, a former captain of Lincoln city's under 16 squad. One of the academies which Sonny got rejected from.

"Mikael soren... ok a physical Type. And he's a double traiter?..hmm"

Gravity shift, and Aerial control, he is a complete defender. One of the most talented defenders in the country.

She's gets a bit confused and searches deeper

"this guy is a bit overpowered to be in a school like Rivermark... oh here it is, former Lincoln City under-16 player and captain"

"But why release someone so talented? Somethings not adding up here"

Afterwards the girl continues to go deeper.

She checks out Theo harrow, Owen Kessle, Rafael Ibarra, Matteo Rivas and so much more. Yet there was someone she wanted to confirm, the same boy which her grandfather and Joe willock were talking about the day before.

Joe willock was approaching the office but was still a few minutes away. Her time was running out.

"I know his name is somewhere in here...."

Her eyes lit up and she exclaimed with a loud roar

"Voilà, I knew it!"

It was Sonny Hale, The traitless boy. He's name was added by coach Joe to the section of players whom were going to pass the trial no matter the outcome of their performance.

Kelly was enraged. With anger building in her veins, but remained calm "this is insane" she muttered "A traitless nobody shouldn't even be considered at all"

"I dont remember my grandfather mentioning he could give automatic passes for candidates?"

She liked Sonny's character but she wanted him to work hard for his spot. Rivermark hadn't been into the quater final of the National college championship in 5 years.

if it meant he would fail, she was ready to allow it to happen.

"Everyone has to earn their spot on this team, especially him. Traitless players aren't even welcomed here... Joe is an exception, even though not many people know of his past"

"I have to report to the Dean about this. I can't tell Grandfather or he'll take pity on the boy"

Just as she was packing up, switching the desktop off and arranging the documents, joe willock opened the door.

Slowly.

**Creeeeek**

She hide beside the door, and coach joe was making a phone call and didn't notice her. He left the door open, to get a few items and head out.

Kelly took the opportunity to rushed outside of the office. Coach Joe noticed the piece of gum wrapping which she had thrown on the floor while researching.

Coach Joe's eyes squinted "hmm..someone was here"

The next day followed. It's 4 days till Rivermark trials begin. 3 days had gone by since the announcement.

Sonny continued to train. There was still time to prepare for the trial.

The boy was running up and down the pitch. The sound of his steps could be heard from afar. He was still shiffle running despite being one fall away from passing out.

He seemed to be concerned about something, and it made him loose stamina faster.

Finally the boy came to a stop. Realising if he didnt take a break, he could risk getting injured or worse, fainting out on the pitch.

He fell on his bottom to the ground, breathing heavily, with his jersey drained with sweat.

"Ay Sonny!" a voice shouted.

"Huh? Oh, Theo, what's up" Sonny replied.

"Seems your kinda hung up right now" theo asked.

"Oh no, I was just wrapping up haha"

Theo was here to talk. He wanted to catch up with sonny seeing he'd been away in another state for some time.

Theo put on a sorry expression "first. I just want to apologise for what i said earlier this week in the game, i just wanted to get 1 over Damien. You know how damien gets when he wins games" he chuckled, with sincerity in his voice.

Sonny again aquardly clears his throat "naah its cool, I get that alot"

"But. I have to say...why the heck dont you haven't you discovered your trait yet!"

Sonny spits the water in his mouth, stuttering "well..well.. its.. uhh.."

Theo laughs out loud "Hahaha, come on bro, its been 3 years since I came back from the Middlesbrough. And your still... the same"

"Same old Sonny!"

Sonny's expression changed. That sentence hit him hard.

"You have to step up, make the team. You were brilliant, an absolute beast when we were kids"

"Tho whatever the matter is, I hope you turn up soon enough.. aiit?!" He gives sonny a hand to stand up.

Sonny looks at his hand and gets inspired. "you bet bro" He responds with a Enthusiatic voice.

"That's the spiirit" theo chuckles

"Alright, I gotta head home, my mom's organising one of family dinners, and I have to help prepare. See ya!"

"Yeah, sure" sonny replies with a falt voice .

He thinks to himself about how much theo had changed since he went to Middlesbrough for a scholarship at Middlesbrough football academy.

He's voice sounds different. He's accent was notably different. Even he's dressing style was different. Probably just maturity ofcourse.

"Theo's always been a brilliant player" sonny thought to himself while going home.

"We were both late to get traits. He got his at 13, and im still here, playing around. I cant rest until I get to his level... And then..."

"Damien, no, the freaking nationals are next!"

Sonny went home with alot of enthusiasm. Took a bath, changed his clothes and eat dinner. He tumned in some football highlights to watch. He was Feeling optimistic about the future.

Only a few days before trials commence, and the odds were hanging in the balance.
