Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: The Blue Trace

The hunt began at a body shop on the edge of the county. Elias didn't go in with a gun; he went in with a question and a heavy wrench hidden in his sleeve.

The first man was Caleb. He was a runner for the Vane family, a boy with nervous eyes and a custom-painted blue sedan. Elias watched him for two days, noting his routine. When Caleb finally stepped out to smoke behind a neon-lit bar, Elias was there.

The confrontation was short. Elias didn't scream. He spoke in the low, terrifyingly calm tone of a man who had nothing left to lose.

"I know the sound a rib makes when it snaps, Caleb," Elias whispered, pressing the wrench against the boy's chest. "Tell me who else was there."

Caleb broke. He gave two names: Marcus, the judge's son, and Julian Vane, the boy who thought he owned the town.
