Chapter 1 - CHAPTER 1: The Fall of Mooncrest

The morning mist hung over Mooncrest Palace like a fragile veil, barely hiding the looming threat. The northern wolves were coming. From the treeline, their growls rolled through the valley, low and menacing, shaking the very earth.

King Kaelen stood atop the palace wall, robes fluttering in the wind, his golden eyes glowing faintly. Around him, the loyal kitsune guards shimmered with barely restrained energy, tails flicking with tension, ears alert. Magic hummed beneath the surface of Mooncrest, a silent shield of protection that had kept the palace safe for centuries.

But this was no ordinary attack. The northern palace had sent its strongest: a horde of ruthless werewolves, teeth bared, claws gleaming, eyes red with rage. They crashed through the forest like a dark wave, tearing down the outer gates with brute strength and raw savagery.

"Hold the line!" Kaelen shouted, voice carrying over the thunder of battle. "Protect the palace! Protect the children!"

Sir Eldric, Kaelen's trusted adviser, leapt to his side, twin blades in hand, shimmering with kitsune magic. Each strike he made tore through a werewolf, sparks of silver flying with every clash. But there were too many. Too fast. Too hungry.

The first wave of attackers broke through the outer courtyard. Guards fell, shrieking as claws tore through flesh. A kitsune mage tried to form a protective barrier, but a brute with a silvered paw shattered it with a single, bone-crushing strike. Blood pooled around Kaelen's boots, and he felt the sting of desperation tighten his chest.

"Sir Eldric!" he shouted as the man deflected one strike, only to be impaled by another. Kaelen lunged, but Eldric's lifeless eyes met his. His heart clenched.

From the inner chambers, Queen Morwenna's loyal guards tried to shield the princesses. Aria, Lilac, and Liana huddled together, wide-eyed and trembling. But the northern wolves were relentless. One by one, the defenders of the royal children fell, sacrificed so the girls could live a moment longer. Flames and shattered stone filled the hallways, the scent of smoke and blood thick in the air.

Kaelen raised his sword, its golden edge glowing faintly, magic flowing through it. With each swing, werewolves were thrown back, howls of rage echoing in the courtyard. He could feel the pulse of the palace beneath his feet, the lifeblood of Mooncrest itself, lending him strength. But numbers were crushing him.

A massive werewolf, its fur black as night, leapt from the chaos. Its claws slashed through the air, tearing Kaelen's robes. Pain exploded in his side. He staggered but didn't fall. His eyes scanned the battlefield. The northern horde pressed on, unstoppable, but he would not abandon his people, not while he still drew breath.

"Never… harm them," Kaelen whispered, pain burning through him. He swung one last time with everything he had, magic searing through the air. But the next attack landed. Claws raked across his chest, and the golden king fell to the stones, blood soaking into the palace grounds.

All around him, Mooncrest's defenders were dying. Sir Eldric, guards, and servants all had paid the price. The northern werewolves advanced without mercy, their golden eyes burning hatred into the sacred palace.

From the shadows, Queen Morwenna watched. Rage and grief twisted her face as she saw her husband fall. Her children's protectors gone. Her kingdom torn apart. Her heart hardened in an instant.

"Mooncrest will survive," she whispered, voice cold as ice. "But from this day forward… no weakness will be allowed."

In a secluded corner, the princesses clung to each other. Aria's eyes flashed with defiance, Liana's brimmed with worry, and Lilac… Lilac stared, frozen. She had witnessed her world crumble in a single day. And yet, deep inside, something stirred a spark that had been hidden, a whisper of power that would not stay silent forever.

The northern werewolves had won this battle. Mooncrest Palace had fallen. But the war between kingdoms had only just begun.

And in the shadows, unseen and unheard, destiny was already moving its pieces.
