Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

Violet and Gilbert reunite after Violet jumps off the ship to meet with the major.

They embrace each other tearfully.

As the sun rises, Gilbert says that they should head to his house.

They both silently walk to his house with tears still in their eyes.

At the house Gilbert asks if she wants to ask him something.

Why did you leave me?? Major

I already told you, Violet, it's because I felt guilty for what I put you through.

I almost killed myself when I learned you were dead.

This revelation went through his heart like a dagger.

He started crying.

Violet also started crying.

I didn't know that I hurt you so much; if I knew, I would never have left.

The two went to sleep silently.

The next day they talk about their lives.

So an auto memory doll, huh? The girl who couldn't even write is now a doll.

"What about you, Major?" she asks.

I have been a teacher.

I aimlessly wandered here. The elders of the village asked me to teach the kids since I was literate.

I always wanted to be a teacher.

With you, I had gotten to live that dream.

Over here I realized that I could atone for my sins by teaching these poor lads.

His neighbors came to check up on him.

"Are you okay?" the old man asked.

I learned my mother died, so that's why I have been a bit depressed, and also I have had a few other pieces of bad news as well.

The 2 spent the next 3 days mourning in his house.

Violet was just happy to be back with Major.

This reminds me of the war when we shared the same tent.

Deitfreid was here as well; he told me that you put flowers at our mother's grave.

Yes

Why

Because of me

Yes.

I thought that if I saved you at the battle of Intense, then we would have eventually married, and she would have been my family too.

Gilbert looks at her.

Violet was not the only one he hurt by running away.

After the 3rd day. Gilbert says that it's time to get back on with his life.
