Chapter 108 - Episode 108 : Omnission Left Behind

The final pulse from the hidden Veil Gate beneath Veridian Enclave had traveled farther than anyone expected.

It crossed the ancient network.

Passed through forgotten channels.

Moved beneath the Endless Ocean.

And reached Thalorin Depths.

Far below the surface—

the ancient city responded.

THOOM.

The gravitic engine beneath the Lost Reaches awakened.

Blue light moved through the Technomagik Dome.

Then, inside the restored Thalorin city, every remaining Veil Gate crystal illuminated at once.

The Thalorians looked toward the gates.

They remembered that signal.

It belonged to the Siren.

But there was something else inside it.

Something that had not traveled with her.

Something old.

Something Omnission had left behind.

The Signal Beneath the Ocean

The questors stood inside the hidden Veil Gate beneath the Hollow Grove.

Lirion held the Thalorin Battery Crystal they had brought.

Its light pulsed in the same rhythm as the distant signal.

Bardin looked at it.

"So…"

He pointed toward the gate.

"We're going back underwater?"

Dorion sighed.

"Apparently."

Valek smiled.

"You sound disappointed."

"I've already been thrown into enough water."

Bardin laughed.

Kaelira remained beside the gate.

"This is not merely a passage."

She looked toward Sorion.

"You said the Siren left a warning."

Sorion nodded.

"Not exactly."

"What did she say?"

Sorion looked at the inscription.

When the Veil opens again, remember why it was closed.

Kaelira's expression hardened.

"Then we should find out before opening it again."

Lirion inserted the Battery Crystal into the gate's ancient socket.

The gate awakened.

But this time—

there was no violent surge.

Instead, water appeared inside the circular frame.

A window.

Through it, they could see the Endless Ocean.

Then the vision changed.

A massive lighthouse appeared.

Floating above the water.

The ancient Thalorin entrance.

Lirion smiled.

"The connection is stable."

Sorion stepped toward the gate.

"Then the Siren wants us there."

Kaelira nodded.

"Let's find out why."

The Lighthouse Remembers

The questors stepped through.

Cold water surrounded them for a moment.

Then—

nothing.

They emerged inside the dry hollow space beneath the floating lighthouse.

Water flowed around the chamber without entering.

The same impossible space they had encountered before.

Bardin looked around.

"Back to the lighthouse."

Lirion examined the walls.

"Except something has changed."

Sorion felt it too.

The lighthouse was remembering.

Thin blue symbols appeared along the walls.

One after another.

Ancient Thalorian writing.

The restored citizens of the Lost Reaches had begun clearing the surrounding structures, and distant voices echoed through the underwater city.

But beneath those sounds—

another signal remained.

A low, almost inaudible vibration.

Sorion placed his hand against the wall.

His expression changed.

"It is afraid."

Lirion looked at him.

"The Siren?"

Sorion shook his head.

"No."

He looked deeper into the chamber.

"Something is hiding inside her memory."

The Siren's Trail

The group followed the signal through the lighthouse.

At the bottom of the structure was an ancient circular chamber.

A symbol was carved into the floor.

It showed a woman surrounded by waves.

Lirion scanned it.

"This wasn't just a shrine."

Kaelira looked around.

"What was it?"

"A navigation chamber."

Sorion touched the symbol.

The room came alive.

A projection of the Siren appeared.

She moved through the Veil Gate network.

Veridian.

Thalorin.

Other distant regions.

She carried water-memory between them.

Then Omnission appeared.

Not as a physical creature.

As absence.

Where it passed—

symbols disappeared.

Names vanished.

Memories broke apart.

The Siren attempted to redirect the corruption.

But Omnission reached the Thalorin Gate.

The vision suddenly became chaotic.

The Siren screamed.

The gate exploded with light.

Then—

everything stopped.

A black sphere appeared in the middle of the projection.

Lirion stepped backward.

"What is that?"

Sorion whispered:

"An absence."

The Null Remnant

The projection showed the Siren attempting to push the black sphere through the Veil Gate.

She failed.

Instead, the sphere remained behind.

The Siren sealed it inside the Thalorin network.

Lirion stared at the projection.

"Omnission left something here."

Kaelira asked:

"What?"

Lirion shook his head.

"I don't know."

Sorion approached the black sphere.

"It isn't Omnission."

Everyone looked at him.

"It came from Omnission."

He placed his hand against the projection.

"But it's something different."

Bardin frowned.

"A piece?"

Sorion shook his head.

"Not a piece."

He struggled to describe what he felt.

"An echo."

Lirion's eyes widened.

"A residual effect."

"Exactly."

The Siren had stopped Omnission from passing completely through the Veil Gate.

But the process left behind something.

A Null Remnant.

A place where memory had been removed so completely that even the absence itself remained.

The Forgotten Chamber

The projection disappeared.

A door opened behind the shrine.

Lirion immediately raised his scanner.

"There's a chamber behind it."

Dorion looked at him.

"Was that there before?"

"No."

Bardin smiled.

"Then I suppose we're going in."

They entered.

The corridor descended beneath the lighthouse.

The architecture changed.

The beautiful Thalorian designs disappeared.

The walls became plain.

No decorations.

No records.

No names.

No symbols.

Sorion stopped.

"This place is wrong."

Valek looked around.

"Why?"

"Because there should be memories here."

He touched the wall.

"There are none."

Lirion scanned it.

His scanner displayed nothing.

Not zero energy.

Nothing.

No readable data.

No Technomagik signature.

No historical residue.

It was as though the corridor had never existed.

Lirion whispered:

"Omnission's signature."

The First Attack

A sound came from behind them.

KRRRNNNK.

Dorion turned.

Something moved along the ceiling.

A Thalorian Guardian dropped from above.

But it wasn't like the guardians they had encountered before.

Its body was made of broken Technomagik armor.

Its face was blank.

Its memory crystal had been removed.

Dorion raised his shield.

CLANG!

The Guardian attacked.

Valek blocked its second strike.

Bardin moved sideways.

Lirion shouted:

"Don't destroy it!"

Dorion grunted.

"Why does everyone keep saying that?"

"Because it isn't corrupted!"

The Guardian attacked again.

Its movements were violent but strangely empty.

Sorion watched.

"It doesn't remember why it's fighting."

The Guardian swung.

Sorion released a silver-violet pulse.

WHOOOM!

The Guardian froze.

Its weapon fell.

For one moment—

a face appeared beneath the damaged armor.

A young Thalorian soldier.

He whispered:

"Where is the city?"

Sorion's expression softened.

"Below you."

The soldier looked around.

"I can't remember."

Sorion answered:

"Then don't fight."

The Guardian collapsed.

Not dead.

Released.

What Omnission Did

They continued deeper.

The chamber eventually opened into an enormous underground vault.

Hundreds of Thalorian memory crystals were suspended from the ceiling.

But all of them were black.

Lirion stared.

"These are memory archives."

Kaelira approached one.

"What happened to them?"

Lirion touched it.

Nothing.

"Omnission didn't destroy the information."

Sorion looked at him.

"What did it do?"

"It removed the ability to recognize the information."

Bardin frowned.

"What's the difference?"

Lirion answered:

"If you destroy a memory, there's nothing left."

He pointed toward the crystals.

"But here…"

He scanned one.

"The information may still exist."

Sorion understood.

"But nobody can access it."

Lirion nodded.

"Exactly."

Kaelira looked toward the enormous vault.

"So the city didn't merely forget."

Sorion answered:

"It was made incapable of remembering."

The Memory That Wasn't There

At the center of the vault was one enormous crystal.

Unlike the others, it was white.

Completely empty.

Sorion approached it.

The moment he touched it—

he saw nothing.

No vision.

No voice.

No memory.

Just darkness.

Then something spoke.

Not Omnission.

Not the Siren.

A fragmented voice.

"We sealed the passage."

Sorion opened his eyes.

"Who are you?"

The voice continued.

"We could not destroy it."

Another fragment appeared.

"So we removed its name."

Sorion's heart raced.

"What name?"

Silence.

Then:

"The one who guarded the boundary."

The crystal cracked.

CRACK.

Lirion stepped backward.

"Everyone move!"

The white crystal shattered.

A wave of black energy spread across the vault.

The Battle of the Memory Vault

The Null Remnant awakened.

It had no body.

Instead, it moved through the chamber as a wave of missing memory.

Where it passed—

symbols disappeared.

Names vanished from the walls.

Bardin looked at Dorion.

"Dorion!"

Dorion stared at him.

"Who?"

Bardin froze.

"What?"

Dorion looked frightened.

"I…"

He touched his chest.

"I know I'm supposed to know you."

The Null Remnant had reached him.

Valek shouted:

"Dorion!"

Dorion looked at him.

Nothing.

Lirion immediately understood.

"It isn't attacking their bodies!"

Sorion released another resonance pulse.

The Remnant recoiled.

"It is attacking recognition."

Bardin grabbed Dorion.

"Remember me!"

Dorion stared at him.

"You play music."

Bardin smiled.

"That's a start."

He began playing.

A melody from their journey.

The same rhythm they had shared in Veridian.

Dorion's eyes flickered.

"Bardin."

"That's right."

"Bardin."

His memory returned.

The Remnant surged again.

This time it targeted Valek.

Sorion moved toward him.

"Remember the first time we entered Veridian."

Valek frowned.

"The jungle…"

"Yes."

"The hunters."

"Yes."

"The Green Veil."

"Yes."

The memories returned.

The Remnant recoiled again.

Lirion understood.

"It can't erase memories that are being actively connected."

Sorion nodded.

"Then we use the network."

Thalorin Remembers Veridian

Lirion connected the Thalorin Battery Crystal to the archive system.

The gravitic engine responded.

Far above them—

the Technomagik Dome activated.

Blue light spread through the city.

The restored Thalorians felt it.

Then—

the Veridian Veil Gate responded.

Kaelira felt the connection.

"Veridian."

Sorion nodded.

"Both regions are remembering each other."

The Siren appeared inside the chamber.

Her form emerged from the water flowing through the walls.

She looked toward the Null Remnant.

"You survived."

The Remnant pulsed.

The Siren raised her hand.

Water surrounded it.

But she did not destroy it.

Instead, she contained it.

Lirion realized what she was doing.

"You've done this before."

The Siren nodded.

"I could not erase what Omnission left."

Sorion stepped closer.

"So you imprisoned it."

"Yes."

"Why didn't you tell the Thalorians?"

The Siren looked toward the memory crystals.

"Because they would have tried to remember everything."

Sorion understood.

"And that would have awakened it."

The Siren nodded.

The Truth About Omnission's Echo

The Siren finally explained.

Omnission had attacked the Thalorin Veil network.

It attempted to erase the memories connecting the ancient regions.

The Siren stopped the main corruption.

But the act created a residual phenomenon.

The Null Remnant.

It did not consume memories like a creature.

It caused something more dangerous:

disconnection from memory itself.

It could make someone remember that something happened—

but forget what it meant.

Remember a face—

but forget the name.

Remember a place—

but forget why they loved it.

Remember a friend—

but forget that the friend mattered.

The Siren had sealed it beneath Thalorin.

But the seal had weakened when the Veil Gate of Veridian awakened.

Sorion looked toward the Siren.

"So our restoration woke it."

"No."

She shook her head.

"Your restoration did not wake it."

She looked toward the shattered crystal.

"It woke what had been hidden from it."

Sorion understood.

"Memory itself."

The Choice

The Null Remnant remained trapped inside the Siren's water barrier.

Lirion looked at the gate.

"We can destroy the chamber."

The Siren shook her head.

"No."

"Why?"

"Because the chamber contains memories that Thalorin still needs."

Lirion looked toward the archive.

"So we can't destroy it."

"No."

Sorion looked at the Remnant.

"And we can't simply release it."

"No."

Bardin sighed.

"Then what do we do?"

Sorion looked toward the Veridian connection.

"We give it boundaries."

Kaelira understood.

"Like Vaelthuun."

Sorion nodded.

"Exactly."

Vaelthuun had learned that connection without boundaries became control.

Now they had to teach the opposite lesson.

Memory without boundaries could become dangerous.

The New Seal

Lirion placed the Battery Crystal into the center of the chamber.

Sorion released memory resonance.

Bardin played.

Kaelira called the Veridian roots through the Veil.

The Siren surrounded the Remnant with water.

The ancient Thalorin symbols reappeared.

But this time—

they formed a boundary.

Not a prison.

A controlled memory chamber.

The Null Remnant shrank.

The blackness condensed into a small crystal.

Lirion sealed it inside a transparent Technomagik container.

The crystal continued pulsing.

THUM.

THUM.

THUM.

Sorion looked at it.

"It isn't dead."

"No," said the Siren.

"It is contained."

The Siren's Final Warning

The Siren turned toward Sorion.

"You seek the guardians."

"Yes."

"You seek restoration."

"Yes."

"And you seek the memories erased by Omnission."

Sorion nodded.

The Siren's expression became serious.

"Then you must understand something."

The chamber became silent.

"Omnission did not leave only one remnant."

Lirion's eyes widened.

"There are more?"

The Siren nodded.

"Every place it touched may contain an echo."

Sorion looked toward the sealed crystal.

"Then this is only one."

"Yes."

"Are they all dangerous?"

"Not all."

The Siren looked toward the Veil Gate.

"Some are only empty spaces."

She paused.

"Some are wounds."

Another pause.

"And some…"

Her expression darkened.

"…remember what Omnission was."

Everyone became silent.

Bardin lowered his instrument.

"That's not good."

The Siren looked toward him.

"No."

The Second Connection

The Siren raised her hand.

A small stream of water flowed through the Veil Gate.

It carried an image.

A distant region.

Not Veridian.

Not Thalorin.

Another ancient city.

Its Veil Gate was broken.

Its landscape was covered in white mist.

And somewhere within that mist—

a faint heartbeat could be heard.

THUM.

THUM.

THUM.

Lirion stared.

"That isn't one of our known regions."

Sorion watched the image.

"What is it?"

The Siren answered:

"Another place that survived Omnission."

The image disappeared.

"But its guardian never returned."

Return to Veridian

The questors returned through the Veil Gate.

The hidden gate beneath the Hollow Grove remained stable.

The Siren's connection was now restored between Thalorin and Veridian—but carefully controlled.

The forest immediately responded.

Water began flowing through previously weakened roots.

Not flooding.

Not overwhelming.

Simply returning.

Kaelira watched a nearby stream change direction.

"The forest is remembering its water."

Sorion nodded.

Lirion looked at the Veil Gate.

"And Thalorin is remembering Veridian."

Bardin smiled.

"So the two regions are connected again."

Sorion corrected him.

"Connected with boundaries."

Bardin laughed.

"Right."

Kaelira looked toward the dark forest.

"But five guardians remain."

Sorion nodded.

"And we now know Omnission left echoes behind."

The young Hunter touched the First Root.

Vaelthuun responded.

For once, there was no hunger.

Only recognition.

The Hunter smiled.

"He says the Siren has returned."

Sorion looked toward the distant ocean.

"She never really left."

The Last Image

That night, beneath the First Root, Sorion dreamed.

He saw the Seven Guardians.

Water.

Seed.

Migration.

Growth.

Rhythm.

Memory.

Connection.

Then he saw something beyond them.

A dark boundary.

Behind it—

a figure standing alone.

Not attacking.

Not moving.

Watching.

Sorion tried to approach.

The figure stepped backward.

A voice whispered:

"You are remembering too much."

Sorion woke suddenly.

The First Root pulsed.

THUM.

He looked toward the western forest.

Toward the hidden Veil Gate.

Toward the place where the unknown presence had once spoken.

And for the first time—

Sorion realized something terrifying.

Maybe the ancient guardians weren't the only things that had been forgotten.

Maybe there were things that chose to forget themselves.

And somewhere beyond the Veil—

one of them had just realized that the questors were coming.
