Chapter 2 - The Power That Shouldn’t Exist

Ayan didn't sleep.

Not because he couldn't… but because every time he closed his eyes, he saw the same thing—

Aditi being taken.

Again.And again.And again.

So instead, he sat on the cold stone floor of the Headmaster's office, staring at the book resting in his hands like it might bite him.

"Alright…" he muttered. "You showed me they're alive. Now what?"

The book didn't glow this time.

It responded.

The moment his thumb brushed the cover again, symbols crawled across its surface—dark, shifting, almost like liquid shadows forming words.

Ayan leaned closer.

"…Weapon… bond… element…?"

The room suddenly felt colder.

Then—

The floor beneath him lit up.

A circular pattern spread outward, covering the entire room with glowing markings. Before he could react, something formed in front of him.

A sword.

Floating.

Black.

Not just black—absorbing light. Its blade was thin, slightly curved, with faint purple veins pulsing through it like it had a heartbeat.

Ayan blinked.

"…no way."

The book's symbols shifted again.

"Choose."

"Choose what? There's literally only one—"

The sword dropped.

Straight toward him.

"—OH SHI—!"

He barely caught it.

The moment his hand wrapped around the grip—

Everything went silent.

Darkness.

Not around him.

Inside him.

Ayan felt something move through his body, like cold smoke filling his veins. His chest tightened, his breath stopped—

Then—

A surge.

Power exploded outward.

He gasped, dropping to one knee as shadows burst from beneath his feet, spreading across the room like living things.

"What the hell was THAT?!"

The sword hummed.

And somehow… he understood.

"…Dark element?"

The words came out slowly, like they weren't fully his.

Fire burns.Ice freezes.Water flows.Grass heals.

But Dark…

Dark devours.

Ayan stared at the blade.

"Great. I got the most suspicious one."

The next few hours were… messy.

Very messy.

"Okay… attack."

He swung the sword.

Nothing happened.

"…attack properly."

He swung harder.

Still nothing.

"BRO DO SOMETHING—"

The sword suddenly released a burst of dark energy that slammed into the wall—

BOOM.

Half the room collapsed.

Ayan stared at the destruction.

"…okay. Too much."

Training wasn't training.

It was survival.

Every time he stepped outside, the academy wasn't empty anymore.

Not completely.

Some demons were still there.

Left behind.

Watching.

Waiting.

And the moment they saw him—

They attacked.

The first fight lasted ten seconds.

Ayan lost.

Badly.

A creature lunged at him from the shadows—too fast, too sharp. He barely blocked, the impact throwing him across the hallway.

"Okay—okay—not ready—not ready—!"

He scrambled to his feet, heart racing, gripping the sword tighter.

Think.

The book's voice echoed faintly in his mind.

"Power grows through conflict."

"…so basically, fight or die?"

Great system.

Second fight.

He lasted thirty seconds.

Third fight.

One minute.

By the fifth—

Something changed.

Ayan ducked under a claw swipe, his body moving faster than before—not because he thought about it, but because it felt right.

"Alright… my turn."

He stepped forward.

Swung.

This time—

He didn't force it.

The sword moved with him.

A thin arc of dark energy sliced through the air—

And through the demon.

Silence.

The creature froze.

Then split apart… dissolving into nothing.

Ayan stood there, breathing hard.

"…I did that?"

His hands trembled.

Not from fear.

From adrenaline.

From power.

From the realization that—

He could fight back.

Days passed.

Or maybe just one very long day.

Time didn't matter anymore.

Ayan fought.

Again.

And again.

And again.

Each battle pushed him further—his movements sharper, his reactions faster, his control over the dark element growing stronger.

He learned quickly:

Dark energy could cut through almost anything

It moved faster than other elements

But it drained him… a lot

"Yeah… figures. High damage, high risk."

By the end—

He wasn't weak anymore.

But he wasn't strong either.

Not enough.

Not even close.

That night, he returned to the Headmaster's office.

Exhausted.

Sweat, dust, and blood covered him—but his eyes were different now.

Focused.

"Okay," he said, dropping into the chair. "I can fight. I won't die instantly anymore."

A pause.

"But going alone… is still suicide."

He looked at the book.

"So tell me where they are."

For a moment—

Nothing happened.

Then—

The book opened on its own.

A map appeared.

Not of Grimvale.

Of somewhere else.

A place beneath the world.

Dark.

Endless.

And marked—

With hundreds of small lights.

Students.

Ayan leaned closer.

"Aditi…"

He found her.

But something was wrong.

Her mark…

Was different.

Before he could understand it—

The book forced another vision into his mind.

A massive chamber.

Demons gathered.

Not the weak ones.

Something higher.

Stronger.

Watching.

Waiting.

And in the center—

Aditi.

Chained.

Unconscious.

But glowing.

A faint, soft light surrounded her… completely different from everything else in that dark place.

One of the demons spoke—its voice deep, distorted—

"The key to humanity's end… has been secured."

Ayan's breath stopped.

"…what?"

Another voice—

"When her power awakens… their world will fall."

The vision shattered.

Ayan stumbled back, gripping his head.

"No… no, no, no…"

His chest tightened.

"That doesn't make sense…"

Aditi?

The girl who couldn't even handle practical magic properly?

That Aditi?

"…what are they talking about?"

Silence.

The book didn't answer.

Ayan looked down at his sword.

Then back at the map.

His jaw clenched.

"…doesn't matter."

His voice hardened.

"They want her?"

A faint shadow spread beneath his feet.

"Then they're going to have a problem."

His grip tightened on the blade.

Because now—

This wasn't just about saving his classmates.

This was bigger.

Much bigger.

And Ayan had just stepped into a war he didn't understand.
