Caleb's POV
The nightmare unfolds before my eyes. She vanished in mere seconds while we stepped away from the porch. How could this happen again?
I watch as Mason moves frantically along the sidewalk, his nose to the ground, desperately seeking any trace of her scent. But there's nothing beyond the porch steps. Her trail simply ends, leaving only our own lingering traces behind.
The possibility that her father found her sends ice through my veins.
Everyone spreads out across the neighborhood, but deep down I know we won't locate her this way. Her scent has completely disappeared, and too much time has passed for us to spot her visually.
My thoughts spiral as I attempt to form some kind of strategy, any plan that might lead us to her.
"Maybe she ran off again?" Jace suggests quietly from behind me.
A threatening growl tears from my throat before I can stop it.
