Riley's POV
Voices drift through my consciousness before my mind can process what's happening around me. "Mommy said the scary man is trying to find us, and these will keep us safe," Felix chirps with innocent happiness. "Yeah, and they're so sparkly," Vanessa adds with wonder. Mason chuckles warmly, "That they are, sweetheart."
My eyes flutter open slowly, the familiar sound of Mason's voice keeping any panic at bay. Even now, his presence has this strange ability to settle something deep in my chest. The moment he notices I'm awake, concern floods his features. "You feeling alright?" He studies my face carefully, searching for signs of distress.
I straighten in my seat and peer through the window, trying to get my bearings. "Mommy! Uncle Mason is bringing us home!" Felix shouts with pure joy, and my throat tightens instantly. Heat burns behind my eyes as I whip around to glare at Mason. His expression remains completely unreadable, giving me absolutely nothing to work with.
