Chapter 3 - THE SECRET SHE GUARDS

The sun was already high when classes ended for the day.

Students gathered in small groups, chatting, laughing, and planning their way home.

But Amara did not stay behind.

She packed her books quietly and stood up, preparing to leave.

"Hey."

A voice stopped her.

She turned slightly.

Kian was standing beside his desk, watching her.

"You leave early," he said.

Amara adjusted her bag.

"I don't have anything to stay for."

Kian nodded slowly.

"Then walk with me."

That sentence caught her off guard.

Amara paused.

"…Why?"

Kian shrugged lightly.

"No reason."

A brief silence followed.

Amara studied him for a moment, as if trying to read his intention.

Then she replied:

"I don't walk with people I don't know well."

Kian smiled faintly.

"Then get to know me."

For a second… neither of them spoke.

The classroom was almost empty now.

Just the two of them.

Amara finally turned away.

"I'm not interested."

She walked out.

But Kian didn't stop watching.

He stood still for a moment, then picked up his bag and followed her at a distance.

Not too close.

Not too far.

Just enough to observe.

Outside the school gate, students moved in different directions.

Amara walked alone down the street.

No friends.

No distractions.

Just her and her thoughts.

Unknown to her, Kian was still watching from behind.

And then something unusual happened.

A black car pulled up slowly beside Amara.

The tinted window rolled down.

A man inside spoke to her.

"Miss… your ride is here."

Amara stopped walking.

Her expression changed instantly.

Calm… but alert.

"No," she replied firmly.

"I didn't call for a car."

The man inside the car hesitated.

"Your family arranged—"

"I said no," she interrupted.

Her tone was sharper this time.

The car paused for a second… then drove off.

Kian, who was observing from a distance, narrowed his eyes.

Family?

So she wasn't just an ordinary student.

Amara continued walking like nothing had happened.

But her pace was slightly faster now.

Like she wanted to get away from something… or someone.

Kian finally stepped out and walked closer.

"Interesting," he said when he caught up with her.

Amara didn't stop.

"What is?"

"You."

She sighed softly.

"Don't follow me."

"I'm not following you," Kian replied.

"I'm just walking the same direction."

Amara stopped walking.

She turned to face him fully this time.

"Listen," she said quietly, but firmly.

"You don't know anything about me. And it's better if it stays that way."

Kian met her eyes.

For the first time, his expression was serious.

"Then why are you hiding?"

The question hung in the air.

Amara's eyes flickered for a second.

Not fear.

Not anger.

Something deeper.

But she quickly masked it again.

"I'm not hiding anything."

Kian stepped closer… just slightly.

"Everyone hides something."

A pause.

Then he added:

"Even you."

Amara didn't respond.

Instead, she turned away again and continued walking.

But this time…

Kian didn't follow immediately.

He stood still, watching her leave.

Because now he was certain of one thing:

Amara wasn't just a quiet girl.

She was hiding a life no one in that school knew about.

And somehow…

He wanted to uncover
