Chapter 13 - AFTER THE CHOICE

The silence in the office lingered long after the door closed.

Amara stood still.

Her father was gone.

Just like that.

No arguments.

No turning back.

Kian didn't say anything at first.

He just watched her.

Carefully.

Because something had changed.

Not outside…

But inside her.

"Amara…" he called softly.

She blinked slowly, as if returning from somewhere far away.

"I'm fine," she said.

Kian didn't believe that.

Not even for a second.

But he didn't push.

"Let's go," he said instead.

Amara nodded.

Outside the office

The hallway felt longer than usual.

Quieter.

Students glanced at them as they passed.

Whispers followed again.

But this time…

Amara didn't hear anything.

Her mind was empty.

Until—

She stopped walking.

Kian turned.

"What is it?"

Amara looked ahead.

Then down.

"…I don't have anywhere to go," she said quietly.

Those words were simple.

But heavy.

Kian's expression softened instantly.

"What do you mean?" he asked gently.

Amara let out a small breath.

"My cards are frozen. My driver won't come. My house…"

She paused.

"…is no longer mine."

Silence.

Reality had finally hit.

Kian stepped closer.

"Then you won't be alone."

Amara looked at him.

Her eyes searching again.

"You say things like it's easy," she said.

Kian shrugged slightly.

"It's not easy."

A pause.

"But it's simple."

Amara frowned slightly.

"That doesn't make sense."

Kian smiled faintly.

"It means I've already decided."

Silence.

Then he said:

"You can stay with me."

That sentence hung in the air.

Amara froze.

"…What?" she asked softly.

Kian didn't look away.

"You heard me."

Her heartbeat quickened slightly.

Not from fear.

From something unfamiliar.

"You don't even know me properly," she said.

Kian nodded.

"I know enough."

A pause.

"And I trust you," he added.

That hit deeper than expected.

Amara looked away.

Trying to process everything.

"I don't want to be a burden," she said quietly.

Kian shook his head.

"You're not."

Another silence.

Then he added, more softly:

"You just need someone right now."

Amara's chest tightened.

No one had said that to her before.

Not like this.

Slowly…

Very slowly…

She nodded.

"…Okay."

Later that evening

Kian's house was quiet.

Simple.

Nothing like the life Amara came from.

But it felt… peaceful.

Amara stood near the doorway.

Looking around.

"It's not much," Kian said.

She shook her head slightly.

"It's enough."

That answer surprised him.

She turned to him.

"…Thank you."

Kian smiled faintly.

"You don't have to thank me."

A pause.

Then he added:

"Just don't disappear on me."

Amara looked at him.

And for the first time…

She smiled.

A real one.

"I won't."

That moment felt different.

Warmer.

Closer.

But far away…

Brielle stood on a balcony, staring at her phone.

A message displayed:

"She's been cut off completely."

Brielle's expression didn't change.

But her grip on the phone tightened slightly.

"…Now what?" she whispered.

Because this wasn't the outcome she expected.

Amara didn't break.

She chose.

And now…

Everything was changing.
