Chapter 18 - blood and waiting

Chapter 18

The night was not quiet.

Not this time.

Keifer stood in the dark.

His knuckles bruised.

His shirt stained.

His eyes…

Cold.

Empty.

No mercy.

No hesitation.

"They touched her."

His voice was low.

Deadly.

The men in front of him trembled.

"We didn't know—"

"Wrong answer."

Silence.

And then—

It ended.

Just like that.

Fast.

Final.

Because for him—

There was no forgiveness.

Not when it came to her.

Not when someone dared to touch what he already considered his.

Minutes later—

The mansion stood still again.

As if nothing had happened.

As if blood didn't just stain the night.

Keifer walked through the hallway.

Calm.

Controlled.

Like always.

But inside—

Something burned.

Something dangerous.

Something… personal.

He reached his door.

Opened it.

And stopped.

Jay sat on the bed.

Waiting.

Her fingers tightly holding the edge of the sheet.

Her eyes…

On the door.

On him.

She stood up instantly.

"You're back…"

Her voice was soft.

But it carried relief.

Real.

Keifer didn't move immediately.

His eyes scanned her.

Checking.

Again.

Always.

"You're okay?"

The question came low.

Controlled.

Jay nodded.

"I am now."

A pause.

Then she stepped closer.

Slow.

Careful.

"You went… to them?"

Silence.

He didn't answer.

But she saw it.

On him.

On his hands.

On his shirt.

Her breath slowed.

Not in fear.

Not this time.

Something else.

"You didn't spare them…"

She whispered.

A long pause.

Then—

"No."

Simple.

Certain.

Jay looked at him.

Really looked.

At the man everyone feared.

At the man who just did something terrible.

And yet—

Her heart didn't pull away.

Instead—

She stepped closer.

Closing the distance.

Keifer's gaze dropped slightly.

Watching her.

Carefully.

As if expecting fear.

Rejection.

Distance.

But she didn't give him any of that.

Her hand lifted slowly.

Then stopped midway.

Hesitating.

He noticed.

And for once—

He didn't move.

Didn't take control.

He waited.

For her.

Jay swallowed softly.

Then finally—

Her fingers touched his hand.

Light.

Careful.

Warm.

"You came back…"

Her voice was barely above a whisper.

Keifer's jaw tightened slightly.

"I told you I would."

A pause.

Jay looked up at him.

Her eyes softer now.

No fear.

No confusion.

Just… something steady.

"I knew you would."

Silence filled the room.

But it wasn't heavy anymore.

It felt… different.

Closer.

Real.

Jay's fingers tightened slightly around his hand.

Not to stop him.

But to keep him there.

"I was waiting…"

She said softly.

And that sentence—

It hit deeper than anything else.

Because she didn't have to.

But she did.

She chose to.

For him.

Keifer looked at her.

Long.

Carefully.

As if trying to understand…

Why she wasn't afraid anymore.

Why she stayed.

Why she waited.

But maybe…

He already knew.

And maybe…

That scared him too.

Because now—

She wasn't just someone he protected.

She was someone he couldn't lose.

And that…

Was far more dangerous.
