Chapter 5 - Jujutsu Kaisen: Echoes of the Abyss

The air changed the moment Kurotsume released their cursed energy.

It wasn't like the creature.

It wasn't chaotic.

It wasn't unstable.

It was—

*Perfectly controlled.*

Yuji felt it immediately.

Heavy.

Sharp.

Like standing in the presence of something that understood cursed energy on a completely different level.

"…This is bad," Nobara muttered.

Megumi didn't disagree. "…Yeah."

Kurotsume took a single step forward.

The ground didn't crack.

It *sank*.

As if reality itself was adjusting to their presence.

"…You've done well so far," Kurotsume said calmly. "But this is where your growth ends."

Yuji stepped forward anyway.

"…We'll see about that."

---

### **The First Exchange**

No signal.

No countdown.

Yuji moved first.

Fast.

Faster than before.

His body and cursed energy aligned perfectly—

"Synchronized Impact!"

He struck—

Or tried to.

Kurotsume didn't dodge.

Didn't block.

They simply raised a hand—

And Yuji's fist stopped.

Mid-air.

No contact.

No resistance.

Just—

*halted.*

Yuji's eyes widened. "…What?!"

Kurotsume tilted their head slightly.

"…Incomplete."

With a flick of their wrist—

Yuji was launched backward like he'd been hit by a truck.

He crashed across the street, skidding through debris.

"Yuji!" Nobara shouted.

Megumi moved instantly. "Nue!"

Lightning struck—

But it never reached Kurotsume.

It bent.

Curved away.

As if the space itself refused to let it land.

"…Spatial interference?" Megumi muttered.

Kurotsume smiled faintly.

"Close."

---

### **A Technique Beyond Understanding**

Nobara attacked next.

"Straw Doll Technique!"

Her nails shot forward—

Perfect aim—

But just like Megumi's attack—

They veered off course.

Missing completely.

"…You're kidding me," she said under her breath.

Kurotsume lowered their hand.

"…You're all still thinking in straight lines."

Yuji pushed himself up, coughing.

"…Then what are you doing?"

Kurotsume looked at him.

"Curving reality."

Silence.

Yuji blinked. "…That's not helpful."

Kurotsume chuckled softly.

"My technique allows me to alter the 'path' of anything that moves within my range."

They gestured lightly.

"Attacks, energy, even force itself."

Megumi's expression darkened.

"…So nothing can hit you directly."

Kurotsume nodded.

"Exactly."

---

### **No Way Through**

Yuji clenched his fists.

"Then we just overwhelm you!"

He charged again—

Faster—

Stronger—

Megumi and Nobara followed from different angles.

A three-way attack.

Perfect coordination.

But—

Every strike—

Every movement—

Every attempt—

*Missed.*

Not because Kurotsume moved.

But because the attacks themselves refused to reach.

Yuji skidded to a stop.

"…This is ridiculous."

Kurotsume watched calmly.

"You rely too much on force."

They stepped forward.

And vanished.

Yuji's instincts screamed—

He turned—

Too late.

A single strike to his stomach—

He folded instantly.

"GHH—!"

The impact sent him crashing again.

Megumi reacted—

"Divine Dogs!"

But Kurotsume was already gone.

Reappearing behind him.

"…Predictable."

A precise strike—

Megumi dropped to one knee.

Nobara swung her hammer—

But her attack curved away mid-swing.

"…This is cheating!" she snapped.

Kurotsume sighed softly.

"No."

They raised a hand again.

"This is mastery."

---

### **Breaking Point**

Yuji forced himself up again.

Breathing harder now.

Body aching.

"…There has to be a way…"

Inside him—

Sukuna spoke.

"You're finally facing something interesting."

Yuji growled internally. "Got any useful advice?"

Sukuna laughed.

"Of course."

A pause.

"Die."

"…Not helpful."

Outside—

Kurotsume watched him closely.

"…You're thinking."

Yuji looked up.

"…Yeah."

Kurotsume's eyes sharpened slightly.

"Good."

They stepped forward again.

"Then show me something worth analyzing."

---

### **Understanding the Impossible**

Megumi wiped blood from his mouth.

"…Yuji," he said quietly.

Yuji glanced at him.

"…Yeah."

Megumi's mind raced.

*It redirects anything with a defined path.*

Straight-line attacks—

Projectile techniques—

Even movement—

All of it followed trajectories.

And Kurotsume controlled those trajectories.

"…Then we need something without one," Megumi said.

Nobara frowned. "What does that even mean?"

Megumi looked at Yuji.

"…Instinct."

Yuji blinked.

"…Huh?"

Megumi stood slowly.

"Not planned movement."

"Not aimed attacks."

"Something that doesn't follow a predictable path."

Yuji stared at him.

Then—

Slowly—

He smiled.

"…I think I get it."

---

### **Letting Go**

Yuji stepped forward again.

But this time—

He didn't take a stance.

Didn't prepare a technique.

Didn't focus on timing.

He just—

Moved.

Kurotsume watched carefully.

"…What are you doing?"

Yuji didn't answer.

He moved again—

But it wasn't linear.

Not direct.

Not structured.

It was messy.

Unpredictable.

Raw.

Kurotsume raised a hand—

But for the first time—

There was hesitation.

"…No clear path…"

Yuji was already there.

His fist came in—

Not aimed—

Not calculated—

Just *felt.*

And this time—

It didn't curve away.

It *landed.*

Kurotsume's eyes widened slightly.

"…Interesting."

They slid back a few steps.

Yuji exhaled.

"…Got you."

---

### **The First Crack**

Nobara grinned. "Finally!"

Megumi nodded. "That's it."

Kurotsume touched the spot where they were hit.

Not injured.

But—

Affected.

"…So that's your answer."

Their smile returned.

Wider this time.

"Good."

The air around them shifted again.

Heavier.

Darker.

More dangerous.

"But that's still not enough."

Yuji's expression hardened.

"…Then we'll just have to push further."

Kurotsume raised both hands slightly.

Cursed energy surged—

Far beyond before.

"…Let's test that."

The ground beneath them began to distort.

Space bending.

Twisting.

Folding inward.

Megumi's eyes widened.

"…No way."

Nobara froze. "Is this—"

Kurotsume's voice echoed.

"**Domain Expansion.**"

---

### **The Abyss Opens**

"**Fractured Path: Endless Divergence.**"

The world shattered.

Not exploded—

*shattered.*

Like glass breaking in every direction at once.

The city disappeared.

Replaced by—

An endless void of shifting, intersecting paths.

Up.

Down.

Sideways.

All directions at once.

Nothing was stable.

Nothing was fixed.

Every step felt wrong.

Yuji stumbled slightly. "…What is this place?"

Megumi's voice was tense. "A domain…"

Nobara looked around, unsettled. "I hate it already."

Kurotsume stood at the center—

Completely still.

"…Within my domain…"

Their voice echoed from every direction.

"…all paths belong to me."

Yuji clenched his fists.

"…Then we'll just break it."

Kurotsume smiled.

"Try."
