Lu Feng followed his father up north. Lu Feng looked to the seas as they walked. He found the seas to be quite pleasant to look at, but his father took it as him wanting to be a pirate.
"Quit looking at the seas, you won't be able to set sail for at least another week or two." Lu Dong said.
"Father, can you tell me where you're taking me? Heading up north is the opposite direction to the elder hall, and the markets are to the east. Up north doesn't really seem to have anything. I highly doubt you want me to make pills or refine weapons down here."
The north part of the island is primarily hard labour such as refining weapons, creating ships, and other important, yet loud things that cannot be nearby living people.
"To the prison." Lu Dong said, not keeping him in suspense.
"To the prison?" Lu Feng raised a brow, and thought for a bit, "You don't plan on me killing a few prisoners to temper me for when I kill people as a pirate, are you?"
Lu Dong steps halted for a second, and the corner of his twitched.
"Tch, sometimes I wonder if you're my actual son."
"Why? Because I'm much smarter than you?" Lu Feng mocked, and wanted to say another insult, but held back.
Lu Dong didn't respond and kept on walking towards the prison.
To be honest, Lu Feng was a little nervous at the moment. He hasn't killed anyone before, not even in his past life. In his past life, all he did was play games and tried to earn a living off of it, only for it to fail miserably.
Now killing someone in real life for the first time, he tried to strengthen his heart as he moved behind his father.
Although he doesn't like this old man of his in this life, but he has to say that he is very strong.
Lu Dong: Level 37
So the system can show me the levels of others, huh? My father wasn't the most talented back then, and could barely become a vice captain and eventually married my mother and had me. So I'd assume most vice captains are at level 40.
I wonder how long it will take me to get to level 40? I also wonder what levels the elders are. As far as I know, people in this world do not lose strength as time passes by, they only lose the speed they usually cultivate at.
Even though I don't know much now, let's try to aim for level forty in three years, which should be doable.
Lu Feng's mind drifted off to levels in hopes to clear the nervousness in his heart. All of his plans and goals now revolve around him being a pirate, so he shouldn't be afraid to kill a criminal.
How much XP will the criminal drop? Lu Feng couldn't help but think in excitement.
"Dad, how strong is the criminal I'm about to kill?"
Lu Dong opened his mouth, but no words came out for a while.
This brat was nervous just now! No way I sensed that wrong. Now he's excited? What the hell? I guess it is my fault ever since then…
"Not criminal, criminals! As for how strong? Just your average crew member who's been on board for a couple of years. We don't keep them locked up for long, and mainly keep them for intel. Keeping them locked up for a long time costs too much food and energy, so only the most vicious stay locked up, and the most vicious ones normally have the most intel on them." Lu Dong explained.
Lu Feng nodded, understanding that keeping criminals cost a lot. Especially during a time where food is somewhat scarce.
Fishing is a dangerous operation here as the fish have mutated and can use Qi. Though, these fish bring enormous benefits to cultivators, and can even cure the common cold in ordinary people.
Therefore, fishing is mainly done only by the Lu family in the Thousand Islands.
After ten minutes of walking at fast speeds, Lu Dong and Lu Feng finally made it to the prison.
The prison was made out of mainly stone and concrete, and there were people stationed nearby with a blue and red flag covering their armour.
"Sir Dong!" The guards saluted Lu Dong.
Lu Feng looked at the guards with curiosity and checked their levels.
Feng Lin: Level 21
Shao Yang: Level 19
Jin Long: level 22
…
Lu Feng estimated that no one here but his father surpassed level 25 and were no lower than 15. Although he doesn't know the strength difference between them, they can still beat him up easily.
"Hmm, I plan on executing the White Shiny Pirates today. Recently they haven't given any decent intel so there is no reason to let them continue to live." Lu Dong said causally, "And it will be my son who kills them."
The guards looked at Lu Feng in surprise, and understood Lu Dong's purpose. They've heard that the warden's son is nearing fifteen and was incredibly smart, so tempering him for his future is understandable.
"Yes sir!" Two guards let Lu Dong and Lu Feng into the prison and then left them to go get the prisoners.
"What do you think of the place?"
"Smells like rotten fish, and rather cold." Lu Feng said honestly, his nose wrinkled.
There was a thin layer of water on the floor, and the color was far from being clear. Lu Feng cannot begin to imagine what illness he would get if a bit of that water entered his mouth.
"Wondering about the water on the ground? Or rather why don't we get rid of it?" Lu Dong asked, but already knew the answer.
"Indeed." Lu Feng nodded.
"What are my spiritual roots?" Lu Dong asked a different question.
When Lu Feng heard his father mention his spiritual roots, a click seemed to have sounded in his head.
"You have water and earth spiritual roots."
Lu Dong nodded, not surprised his son caught on.
"So does that mean you have a Qi technique that requires all of this water?" Lu Feng asked, a bit curious.
Lu Dong nodded. He was showing his son this so he sees the wonders of this world. After all, hearing is not comparable to seeing.
"Go around that corner to the right. Take as many steps as you want once you turn the corner, but once you come back, count the amount of steps you took." Lu Dong said, and pointed to the hall to the right.
Lu Feng nodded, but was speculating what his father was teaching him.
Could he use the water on the ground as a means of tracking movement? There is probably more to it, but clearly the old man wants to show off a little. Since he's bringing me some valuable XP, I'll play along.
Reaching the hall and taking an unknown amount of steps, Lu Feng turned around and began counting his steps on the way back.
"One, two, three… thirty three."
Thirty four steps later, Lu Feng reached the end of the hall where he could see his father by just turning his head to the left.
"Thirty four steps. You took thirty four steps on your way back." Lu Dong said.
"Can you use the water on the ground to locate people's locations?" Lu Feng asked.
"Yes, and every person who works in the prison knows this technique to a degree. That's why it's required to have water spiritual roots if you choose to work here."
Lu Feng nodded. Having that technique would surely come in handy dealing with a bunch of ruffians trying to escape. He could also track those who are slacking off on the job like a true capitalist.
"Alright, I've shown you some neat trick now, time to complete the trial I gave you." Lu Dong said, his face turning serious.
Lu Feng's eyes also narrowed and followed behind his father's footsteps until he reached the courtyard area of the prison. There were no prisoners running about. In fact, prisoners here aren't even allowed to leave their cells. The courtyard here was merely meant for execution.
Not long after Lu Dong and Lu Feng arrived, twenty people appeared before their eyes, and seven of them were chained by the hands and feet with their clothes worn and torn.
"Sir Dong, the people you have requested are here." The man said, bringing the people to a wooden stand, and behind the stand was a pit of water.
"Good, bring the seven of them up and bring a blade for the son of mine." Lu Dong said, his eyes turning sharp on the seven men.
"Yer sir!"
Lu Feng looked at the seven people, looking at their levels.
Level 9
Level 11
Level 10
Level 12
…
"Father, why are there only seven of them?" Lu Feng asked.
"Because the rest died in combat or died during torture." Lu Dong's voice was sharp and replied.
"I see…" Lu Feng muttered, and looked at the seven of them.
The seven aren't high in levels, but they should be able to give me a decent chuck of XP since I'm level one. Well, that's how RPG games normally work, and mine seems to be a bit low levelled.
Lu Feng took in a deep breath secretly, trying to steady his nerves for his first ever kill and XP gain. He wasn't sure if his hands were shaking because of fear of killing, or the excitement of gaining XP. Whatever it is, it will soon be a cold number going up.
"Sir, the blade has arrived." A guard said.
Lu Dong nodded and gestured to the guard to give the blade to his son.
The guard walked up to Lu Feng and presented the blade to him in formal fashion, and Lu Feng grabbed the cold shimmering blade by its handle.
"Prepare for execution!" Lu Dong shouted, and the guard kicked the back of the knees of the prisoners, causing them to kneel on the ground.
"I never thought I would die to a mut." A pirate spat. A good chunk of his teeth was missing, alongside an eye, making his appearance rather hideous.
Lu Feng didn't speak. As for whether he didn't want to humour the man or was too afraid to, it didn't matter at the moment.
Lu Feng raised the blade to the man's neck, his face expressionless. He felt the muscle in his body tighten as he began to move the blade, and with a jolt, slit the man's throat, causing him to stumble backwards into the water pit below.
