Chapter 5 - ch.5

Gawder stood there, exhilarated by what he had just witnessed,

barely able to grasp his own thoughts.

His emotions were mixed.

Suddenly, he woke up. Everything that had happened felt like a dream,

its echoes repeating inside his head,

mixed with the sound of the silence around him.

He turned around to see Ashura leaving.

He did not ask. He did not call out to her.

He looked back at his trembling hand,

gripped it tightly… and smiled.

Two months later.

Gawder and Gwen were near the cemetery.

Gawder was carrying his device.

Gwen said:

I don't think it's a good idea… that you stole the device.

Gawder had not been sleeping at night.

That day replayed in his head every day.

He was burning with the desire to hold the device…

and eventually, he stole it from his father's safe.

Gwen was afraid…

but excited to see what Gawder had told him about.

Gawder said:

Get ready to see this.

He activated his field.

Gwen began to hear the music.

Gawder closed his eyes,

trying to summon something from that day.

He remained still.

He focused on the music…

but he didn't understand what he was supposed to do.

The two of them remained still.

Gwen was confused:

What is my brother going to do now?

There was a note coming in the music.

Gawder thought:

I'll catch this beat.

He opened his eyes in sync with it,

and launched himself…

A jump.

A fleeting flash with the note…

And he crashed into the tree in front of him.

Aaagh… this hurts.

His hand hurt, and blood was running from his nose.

Gwen was shocked.

The flash his brother had launched with…

looked like something out of a fantasy story.

He was shocked… but excited.

He said:

Are you okay?

Gawder smiled:

Did you see that??

Gwen said:

Yes… yes!

They began laughing.

Even though all he had done was jump,

to them…

it was the greatest thing they had ever done with the device.

The device gave its user a power that resembled supernatural abilities,

but as people became accustomed to using it,

it became something ordinary.

But what Gawder had witnessed that day…

was beyond the limits of understanding.

Gawder continued training there,

while his brother watched him for days.

Sometimes he failed,

sometimes he fell,

sometimes he succeeded.

The flash became two flashes…

and after a month, it could be said

that he had begun to master some fleeting flashes.

One day, while the two of them were training there…

A voice from afar:

Hey… you two!

Gawder was afraid his father would discover that he had stolen the device.

Any voice… was a threat.

Gwen called out, but did not approach.

They could not see the person calling them,

so Gawder simply opened a small field,

and made a flash in the opposite direction.

Inside the rapid flash he was performing…

He collided with someone's hand in midair.

It was a powerful hit… knocking the air out of him.

With the supernatural speed he had been moving at,

it felt like a car crash.

The two brothers flew through the air…

and crashed onto the ground.
