Chapter 3 - CHAPTER 3: “Phase 3 — The Ones Watching Above the System”

The world didn't reset.

That was the first thing I noticed.

The second—

Was that everything felt wrong.

Not broken.

Not destroyed.

But… unstable.

"…We're still here," Huy said, his voice shaking.

I didn't answer.

Because I was looking at the sky.

It wasn't a sky anymore.

It looked like shattered glass.

Cracks spreading across it, slowly, like something was trying to break through from the other side.

"…Phase 3," I muttered.

Mai stood beside me.

Her eyes narrowed.

"…This didn't happen before."

"You've seen this before?" I asked.

She hesitated.

"…Pieces of it."

"…Not like this."

That was enough.

She remembered.

Not everything.

But enough to be dangerous.

"…So I'm not the only one," I said quietly.

Huy looked between us.

"Can someone explain what's going on?!"

Before I could answer—

The system flickered.

Stronger than before.

More… present.

[Phase 3 Initialized]

[New Rule: Observation Determines Survival]

I froze.

"…Observation?"

The ground trembled.

Not violently.

But deeply.

Like something massive had just moved beneath us.

Mai whispered:

"…It changed the rules."

"…Again."

Huy looked panicked.

"What does that even mean?!"

I didn't answer immediately.

Because I already knew.

"…It means…"

I slowly turned my head—

"…we're being watched."

Silence.

Then—

The air shifted.

Not from movement.

But from presence.

Something—

Arrived.

No footsteps.

No sound.

But I felt it.

Every nerve in my body screamed.

Danger.

Absolute danger.

"…Don't move," I said.

Huy froze instantly.

"…What?"

"…Just don't move."

Mai didn't speak.

But I saw it in her eyes.

She felt it too.

Then—

It appeared.

Not fully.

Not clearly.

A shape.

Standing in the middle of the hallway.

Tall.

Too tall.

Its form wasn't distorted like the monsters before.

It was… stable.

Controlled.

Real.

And its eyes—

Locked onto nothing.

But everything at the same time.

[Observer Unit Detected]

Huy's breathing became uneven.

"…That thing…"

"…It's worse."

"…Much worse," I said quietly.

The Observer didn't attack.

Didn't move toward us.

It just—

Looked.

Slowly.

Carefully.

As if scanning the entire world.

"…It's not hunting," Mai whispered.

"…It's analyzing."

That was worse.

Way worse.

Because hunters kill.

Observers decide.

The system flickered again.

[Warning: Being Observed = Termination]

My pupils shrank.

"…So that's the rule."

Huy's voice cracked.

"You're saying if that thing sees us—"

"…We die."

Silence.

Heavy.

Crushing.

No one moved.

No one breathed too loudly.

Even thinking felt dangerous.

The Observer turned its head slightly.

Closer.

Closer to our direction.

My heartbeat slowed.

Not from calm.

From control.

I forced it down.

Every instinct told me to run.

But I didn't.

Because I understood now.

Running would get us killed.

"…Lower your presence," I whispered.

"…Don't exist."

Huy swallowed hard.

"…How do I not exist?!"

"…Just try."

The Observer took a step forward.

Reality bent around it.

The floor cracked.

Walls distorted.

It wasn't just observing.

It was affecting the world.

Rewriting it.

"…This thing…"

"…It's above the system," Mai said.

I didn't deny it.

Because deep down—

I already knew.

This wasn't the final enemy.

This was just—

A messenger.

The Observer stopped.

Right in front of us.

Just a few steps away.

Too close.

Way too close.

Huy's hand trembled.

I grabbed his wrist instantly.

"…Don't."

"…Move."

The Observer's head tilted.

As if it sensed something.

My heart—

Stopped.

Not slowed.

Stopped.

For one second.

Two.

Three—

Then—

It turned away.

Just like that.

No attack.

No reaction.

It walked past us.

Slow.

Silent.

Unstoppable.

And then—

It disappeared.

The pressure vanished.

Instantly.

Huy collapsed to his knees.

"…What the hell was that…?"

I exhaled slowly.

"…Judgment."

Mai looked back at where it had been.

"…We weren't targets."

"…We were being evaluated."

The system flickered again.

But this time—

It felt weaker.

[Anomaly Influence Rising]

[System Stability: Decreasing]

I smiled faintly.

Cold.

"…Good."

"…That means it's losing control."

Huy looked at me like I was insane.

"We almost died and you're smiling?!"

I looked back at the shattered sky.

"…Because now I understand."

"…We're not trapped in the system."

"…The system is trapped with us."

Silence.

Then—

The sky cracked again.

Wider.

Deeper.

And something beyond it—

Moved.

Mai whispered:

"…That's not an Observer."

I narrowed my eyes.

"…No."

"…That's something higher."

The system flickered violently.

[Phase 3 Escalation Incoming]

I clenched my fists.

Energy surged inside me.

Stronger than before.

More stable.

More dangerous.

"…Good."

I stepped forward.

A slow smile forming.

"…Now it's getting interesting."
