Chapter 1 - The dress she couldn't ignore

Amina had sewn hundreds of dresses in her life. None of them had ever caused a man to stop breathing—until that night.

Her small shop in Ajegunle smelled of fabric and thread. The neon glow of Lagos streetlights filtered through the windows, bouncing off piles of cloth and giving the room a warm, chaotic glow. Outside, the city never slept, but inside, only the soft hum of her sewing machine accompanied her thoughts.

"This one must be perfect," she whispered, threading the needle carefully. The dress was for a wealthy client, a girl who expected nothing less than flawless. Amina didn't like her—arrogant, entitled—but she needed the money.

As her hands moved across the fabric, a strange sensation ran through her fingers. Not discomfort. Not fear. Something deeper… like the dress itself was alive, watching her, waiting.

She shook her head and focused. "Focus, Amina," she muttered.

The next day, her client arrived, rolling her eyes, arms crossed. "This better be worth it," she sneered. Amina handed her the dress quietly, adding, "Wear it tonight." The girl scoffed but walked away.

That night, at the party, the effect was immediate.

Every head turned as the girl entered, but one man didn't just glance—he froze, captivated. His eyes lingered as if drawn by some invisible thread, unable to look away.

By morning, Amina's phone rang. She hesitated, then answered.

"Hello?" she said.

"It worked," the girl whispered, voice shaking. "He won't leave me alone."

Amina frowned. "Worked? What do you mean?"

"The dress," the girl said. "It… made him notice me. He's obsessed."

Silence fell. Amina stared at her sewing machine, heart pounding. Something inside her stirred, a dangerous, thrilling thought: What have I just created?
